Give ‘em a flag to wave and tell ‘em they’re free!

One conspicuous feature of the recent NATO summit was the rhetoric or rather diatribes and double-speak from the world’s ‘most powerful leaders.’ Bush and some NATO leaders favoured the words 'liberty' and 'freedom' in their media statements and public addresses. However, western interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq tell another tragic story -- the verifiable TRUE story!

Gen. Gotovina, ‘freedom loving’ Croatian fascist!
Gen. Gotovina, ‘freedom loving’ Croatian fascist!

The truth is as plain as the nose on your face, interventions by imperial powers – whether from the East or West – offer no FREEDOM or LIBERTY whatsoever! They offer two distinct choices/conditions; acquiesce to exploitation via bribery and oppression or accept a protracted, violent, military conflict – but the oil/minerals are ‘ours!’

Unjust wars are ‘justified’ – never legitimised -- by the creation of the ‘other’ or an ‘enemy.’ If none exist then create a bogeyman but be sure the jigsaw fits properly! Iraq and Afghanistan do not sit comfortably with the majority of people. It is widely known the 9/11 attacks were conducted by Saudis and the attack on Iraq was based on lies and deception. Why didn’t the West invade Saudi Arabia? Simply because it already holds sway over the puppet Saudi regime. Afghanistan, however, offers VITAL strategic corridors, gas, oil and mineral resources. Wherever the ‘crossroads’ meet, violent conflict prevails; the Balkans and Afghanistan neatly fall into this category.

The consequences of prolonged conflict are of course hardened populations expert in guerilla warfare – Serbs, Vietnamese and Afghanis are not considered the world’s most tenacious and expert guerilla fighters for nothing. The people of these regions have been the nemesis of many imperial powers in the past. The powers today are aware they must pay a heavy price in these regions but today’s intellectually bereft Western leaderships know only the simplistic ‘diplomacy’ of invasive warfare and tissue-thin rhetoric, it would seem!

In an age of nuclear proliferation and the willingness of major powers to utilise these weapons, how much longer before a tactical detonation levels the playing field or worse ignites a nuclear conflict between the superpowers. The Serbs have used this strategy to great effect previously. ‘Playing’ the superpowers to one’s own advantage is a known Balkan strategy – Tito was also known to use this strategy to great advantage! The writing, as they say, is on the (irradiated) wall.

In the meantime Bush congratulated the ‘freedom loving’ fascists of Croatia on their new NATO member status. Croatia, a former Nazi ally and fascist state, is guilty of committing heinous war crimes against the Serbs during WWII and during the recent Balkan wars – the ethnic cleansing (murder and purging) of 150,000 Serbs from Krajina is their latest 'effort!'

However, NATO membership offers many advantages, especially when facing war crimes charges at the Hague. Croatian General Ante Gotovina, should look forward to an acquittal if the exoneration of former KLA terrorist leader, Ramush Haradinaj, on major war crimes charges is any indication.

The reality for Croatia and Kosovo is far from ‘freedom and liberty;’ they have simply exchanged captors. The tiny, fragmented new Balkan ‘nations’ have become ‘states’ of convenience for larger Western nations. Nevertheless, the people have Albanian and chequered flags to wave and their ‘freedom’ to dance with in the streets!

I almost forgot, when referring to offensive missile weapons systems it is always prudent to refer to them as ‘defensive’ missile systems! In turn, we shall refer to any future detonation as a ‘defensive measure’ in the war against invasive western terrorism!
