(A short reminder)

Does anyone remember Paul Wolfowitz stating plainly to the world that the Iraqi people would welcome US invaders with open arms and bouquets of flowers? [This statement will probably go down in history as the most lunatic assessment of one culture by another.]

Do you recall Donald Rumsfeld touting the superiority of the US ‘fighting machine’ with colourful cliches like, "shock and awe?" [The only one in shock is Rumsfeld and his military.] As for "awe" – the whole world is in awe of the stupidity and gullibility of the American people for believing the spin and other fabrications created by the neo-cons.

It’s a dirty business plundering the resources of other nations by force. The US is learning that "things ain’t what they used to be." What was known prior to the invasion of Iraq by most of the world’s population is now historical fact in the USA – and that is that the invasion was based on lies. The biggest lie being the existence of WMDs – but not to be forgotten are the insane comments made by the neo-cons prior to the invasion. Not to be outdone by his underlings (for sheer stupidity) the President of the USA, George W Bush, declared to the world that the War was "over" (a few weeks after the invasion) when in actuality it was just beginning. The whole world knows that Bush is a simple-minded imbecile, but there was some hope held for the average intelligence quotient of the US population. However, it is now evident that the population has a ‘suitable’ leader in Bush.

The US ambassador to Australia, when questioned by a journalist regarding some of the above points, stated that, "the people will forget all this in two weeks." I would add that his comment was punctuated by a condescending smirk!

In the run-up to the elections, having a short memory is a liability – but having no memory whatsoever is a formula for ruination. I had intended to continue with this paper but it would fall on 'deaf ears.'

God bless America. [While the rest of the world watches a society in rapid decline.]
