The Fragility of Power

Surely a little nudge does not warrant such an over-reaction from the panic-stricken U.S. administration. One of the last ‘cards’ in the neo-con deck has been played, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, conveniently held in reserve for future political emergencies, has confessed to everything from 9/11, to stealing my son’s push bike. Panic reigns in conservative park! Whatever happened to Bin Laden? The extreme measure of producing a victim of classic torture/brainwashing in a futile attempt to save the day for conservatives around the world, from Bush to the Howard government of Australia, is bound to fail. Independent experts in various fields could easily determine whether or not the subject is in a fit psychological state and whether any confessions should be taken seriously. Nevertheless, conservative leaders everywhere were quick to try and capitalise on this exceedingly transparent event.

The 100% compliant Khalid Mohammed also confessed to the Bali bombings; note the response of the desperate Australian Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, who “.. expressed his delight that .. ‘self-confessed’ (my emphasis) Bali bombing ringleader Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was .. facing terrorist charges.” The Melbourne Age report continues, “Mr Downer defended the authenticity of the confession against claims that independent journalists and lawyers were not allowed into the hearings and there was no independent assessment of its veracity.” Give us all a break with this pathetic confession ploy, all “authenticity” was lost at the time of the illegal invasion of Iraq – who are the neo-conservatives trying to kid with this manufactured ‘event’?

Facing extreme pressure from local opposition parties and growing discontent from the public, conservatives have obviously ‘dropped their bundles’. Bush’s catastrophically ill-advised tour of Latin America; the culling from office of eight U.S. Attorneys who refused to toe the Bush line; failure of the IMF and World Bank in Africa and the South Pacific; the growing irrelevance of Israel in international affairs (a nation that is ALL PAIN and NO GAIN); the impending stock market collapse and future recession; the burgeoning debt crisis and the possibility of an avalanche of mortgage foreclosures, are just some causes for grave concern in conservative ranks. Nevertheless, these recent examples of conservative ineptitudes all pale against the record of murder and mayhem resulting from the overt oil theft in Iraq. Conservatives required a powerful card to play to save them from accountability but all they were able to produce was a broken, brainwashed, Arab criminal who would probably confess to killing JFK, if required!

The question is not whether to impeach or to otherwise put to pasture the leaders of the worst criminal calamity of the 21st century, it is to arrest and place the entire group of criminal conservatives from Bush through to Blair, Howard and ALL involved parties (Perle and Wolfowitz etc) on trial for their crimes.

Should the people be content with the removal from office of criminal politicians and bureaucrats or should they demand justice? In order for the world to have a skerrick of a chance for Peace in the future, justice must be served, the people of the world demand it – it is clear from today’s idiotic and highly desperate act that conservatives have reached the end of the line.

The most heinous criminals of the 21st century must be ARRESTED and held accountable for their many crimes.

The issue is not political it is LEGAL!
