NATO: a historical inversion

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) was originally utilised by WWII US president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, to dismantle the British Empire – Churchill was forced to sign the empire away in exchange for American assistance in the war. So began, with considerable help from Lend-Lease, the ascendancy of the USA in world affairs. Debate among historians over whether or not Roosevelt intentionally sought to subvert Britain’s power/wealth base continues today; however, most agree that FDR detested imperialism and quite intentionally sought to dismantle (and displace) the British Empire.

It (NATO) worked before, let’s try it again, but with a twist! Today NATO is utilised as a weapon of Western Imperialism – Roosevelt would have shuddered at the thought! But little doubt exists in the face of NATO expansionism and the intentional slow strangulation of Russia -- complete with missile ‘defence’ systems in former bloc countries.

NATO’s offensive military presence in nations far removed from the ‘North Atlantic’ betrays its modern mission. It was NATO forces that flouted the UN Security Council and illegally bombed former Yugoslavia in order to eventually occupy the region (‘camp’ Bondsteel) for Western oil and gas interests.

Today NATO ranges as far as Afghanistan in its quest for the resources of weaker, poorer nations. It is a futile exercise to portray NATO as anything other than the military arm of Western Imperialism, yet Bush persists with his attempts!

The current largest ever NATO summit in Bucharest promises to shape the future of the world.

During his visit to the Ukraine, Bush openly stated, "we support MAP [membership action plan] for Ukraine and Georgia. My stop here should be a clear signal to everybody that I mean what I say: It's in our interest for Ukraine to join." [My emphasis.]

A clear signal to everyone except China and Russia, judging by the timid inaction of these two ‘superpowers’ in the face of open aggression! War is inevitable; allowing an aggressive, open enemy to gain the advantage is beyond comprehension.

The fault lies in viewing America as a sane and responsible nation – America is no such beast, in fact, it is without doubt the most destructive, violent and belligerent nation in the world today.
