Censorship in the Western Media: What they Don't Want You to Know posted by Eric Sommer via quill, 2008-11-05 08:47:45 The Western media has recently outdone itself in censoring important stories - stories which contradict the policies and interests the media seeks to uphold.. Western publics have been systematically misled in recent weeks on vital issues related to war-and-peace, human rights, the financial crisis, and more. Only a few examples can be set out here. But it should be enough to indicate the extent to which world reality is being filtered by the media. (full story and 1 comments) mass media / international
The test of INTEGRITY -- Obama as President posted by finch, 2008-11-04 23:11:55 I wish I could remember the exact phrase the ‘excited’ radio announcer, Steve Chase, used to introduce his audience to the Obama victory speech in Chicago.
To the (background) sound of the roaring crowd, applauding, cheering, whistling and screaming -- as mindless as any crowd the Roman Colosseum would have contained – the announcer exclaimed, “can you hear that; the sound of rapturous supporters; let’s all absorb the atmosphere?” With that Obama began one of the most mediocre victory speeches I have ever heard -- and I’ve heard a few! Between Hope and Reality: An Open Letter to Barack Obama posted by Ralph Nader via reed, 2008-11-04 07:44:40 Dear Senator Obama:
In your nearly two-year presidential campaign, the words "hope and change," "change and hope" have been your trademark declarations. Yet there is an asymmetry between those objectives and your political character that succumbs to contrary centers of power that want not "hope and change" but the continuation of the power-entrenched status quo. Double whammy for future US President posted by Kwang zi, 2008-11-03 23:27:20 The ‘winner’ of the US elections will BECOME the 44th president of the USA. This number has great significance throughout all Asia -- home to enduring civilizations that possess ancient wisdom and knowledge. [Knowledge that was also known and revered in the West (ancient Greece) until pure mathematics displaced an important element of numeric ‘language.’] (full story) miscellaneous / international
More from the Front Lines of the Financial Crisis posted by Stephen Lendman via reed, 2008-11-03 08:52:32 In its latest economic outlook, Merrill Lynch economists "worry about inflation, or more precisely," a lack of it. From crashing global equity markets, falling commodity prices, rising unemployment, stagnant wages, over-indebted households, declining production, the continuing housing crisis, and more. All pointing to several future quarters of negative growth. Showing that Fed chairman Bernanke will face "his greatest fear: deflation." An analysis of the coincident to lagging indicators signals "deep recession." (full story and 1 comments) social equality/unity / international
Former Oz FM, Alexander Downer at loose ends posted by Kingfisher, 2008-11-02 02:07:24 There is a syndrome to which former public figures are extremely susceptible; it’s a type of hangover effect. After years in public office, directing the affairs of State, to suddenly find themselves on the scrap heap is a little disconcerting and a bit of a shock, especially for elitists that have always held the view they were born to rule! Aussie investors win ‘servile stakes’ posted by budgie, 2008-10-31 23:40:45 Desperate citizens who had their investments/funds frozen have been ‘allowed,’ by the ‘big-hearted’ regulator, to access small amounts of their funds to meet the costs of daily life – how bloody generous! The magnanimity of the regulator, ASIC, and the parasitic financial institutions is ‘beyond measure.’ All I can say in the circumstances is, ‘you’re’ damn lucky you haven’t any of my funds frozen, you loathsome parasites! Balkan Wars and Western Propaganda posted by Edward S. Herman via rialator, 2008-10-31 08:40:14 Marlise Simons, the New York Times' main reporter on the Milosevic trial and International Criminal Trial for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), has had a difficult year. Perhaps most painful was the disclosure that in 1999 the Kosovo Albanian KLA sent as many as 300 captive Serbs to Albania to be killed and their internal organs "harvested" for sale abroad; a matter barely mentioned in the New York Times (see below). I was sorely tempted to write to Marlise Simons and offer her my sympathies, "Marlise, if only the villains in this case were Serbs, what a fine front page article you could have had!" Watch the ‘left hand’ during election mania posted by major mitchell, 2008-10-30 08:05:22 It really is too easy! Cynical social theorist, Leo Strauss, took the easy option. The masses should be ‘managed for their own good’ by benevolent, wise and intelligent, (SUPERIOR) ruling elites like dubya Bush, Rove, Cheney, Perle, Wolfowitz, Rice, Rumsfeld etc. – get the picture? It is widely known today that far from ‘superior’ these elites are downright criminal AND incompetent! Yet most of us continue to take the bait each time these cynical manipulators offer it. American Hegemony Bites The Dust posted by Paul Craig Roberts via rialator, 2008-10-29 09:52:10 "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do." -- Bush White House aide explaining the 'New Reality.' (full story) imperialism / international
Former insider Bankster saves personal funds just prior to public freeze! posted by finch, 2008-10-28 23:02:26 Malcolm Turnbull, conservative leader in the Oz parliament and former Goldman Sachs employee, ‘somehow’ managed to save his personal funds from a mortgage related investment just prior to the fund house freezing all public redemptions, perfect timing, Malcolm! As ‘Gordon Gekko’ stated so contemptuously in the movie, Wall Street, the “outsiders” (sheep) are at the mercy of "insiders" – how true! (full story) social/political / international

U.S. threatens to halt services to Iraq without troop accord posted by Roy Gutman and Leila Fadel via reed, 2008-10-27 23:19:27 [The latest hair-brain tactic of the US mass murdering military is to threaten the cessation of services to Iraq by January 1st, if the Iraqi puppet government does not comply with US DEMANDS, brilliant! China and Russia are waiting patiently in the wings for an invitation to do business in a civilised manner. Neither superpower feels the need to murder over one million INNOCENT civilians in order to develop Iraq's valuable resources. By all means, yankee doodle moron, CEASE ALL SERVICES AND FUCK OFF!] (full story and 1 comments) social/political / international
Another home grown catastrophe likely posted by dingo, 2008-10-26 23:53:58 Due to the ‘thick’ nature of the American public the powers are forced to emphasise a point in order to drive it home. However, the less thick international community easily detects and is alerted by ‘overdone’ remarks! Non-Americans view with extreme suspicion SIMILAR warnings from senior politicians of both major American parties. (full story) peace/war / international
Masters of America posted by barra, 2008-10-25 22:40:15 For those who require hard evidence that Wall St. not Capitol Hill rule the USA look no further than the latest babbling of puppet president, dubya Bush. With the financial system and the global economy in tatters and after European and Asian leaders agreed to overhaul the international financial system; the star-spangled parrot (president) spouted his learned lines. [Believe it or not] Bush called on the world to “recommit” to the “free market” system that caused the global economic crisis/collapse in the first instance -- astounding! Bush made the remarks while standing in the cow paddy that was once the American economy. I can almost hear him asking his handlers if he ‘did good;’ you did just fine, George, you can go out and play now, you tubular bell! (full story and 2 comments) social/political / international
