Suicide Bomber posted by leef, 2006-09-24 16:59:27 Perhaps the two most feared words in the English language today are “suicide bomber”; the propaganda machine in the west ensures that these two words continue to strike fear and terror into the hearts of the civilian population. Circumstances occasionally present all of us with unusual opportunities. When a young man who claimed the above distinction wished to make known his story it would have been a dereliction of my profession to refuse the request. The public interest is not served unless both sides of a story are made available. (full story and 1 comments) imperialism / national
Axis of Sketchy Allies posted by Maureen Dowd via rialator, 2006-09-22 17:20:16 Pakistan is at the heart of the Faustian deal the Bush administration has made.
It helps to plug your book at the White House.
After Pervez Musharraf coyly sidestepped a question at a news conference with President Bush about his claim on “60 Minutes” that Richard Armitage threatened to bomb Pakistan back to the Stone Age if it did not cooperate in routing the Taliban in Afghanistan, noting that he had to save such juicy tidbits for his book’s publication next week, he shot up over 1,000 spots on Amazon.com. Nothing Right posted by peptide, 2006-09-22 05:40:20 The one glaring undeniable fact regarding the Bush administration is it has failed in ALL its endeavours – in other words, the Bush regime has done nothing right. The latest incidence of neo-con incompetence involves John Bolton and Condoleezza Rice; their new tactical strategy for 'implementing peace' in the Middle East is inaction! The conflict in South Lebanon revealed the essential ideology/philosophy of the neo-cons – not only [to], ‘GIVE WAR A CHANCE; but also, WAR IS THE ANSWER’! [Thank you John Lennon.] (full story) social/political / international
Divisionism is Death posted by finch, 2006-09-20 06:52:53 A well-known method of subjugation utilised by conquerors and rulers alike is, “divide and conquer”; this strategy applies equally in times of war and peace. It may surprise many but this method remains the principal means of social control in today’s western societies. The primary divisive structure today is the (separate, ‘closed-door’) nuclear family and the principal divided unit is the psychically isolated, competitive individual. [It should be noted that the ‘individual’, as distinct from the group, is a relatively recent social creation.] (full story) social equality/unity / international

National Identity Crisis posted by dingo, 2006-09-17 05:43:25 Australia takes the idiot news of the week award once again. ‘Onya Oz for not laughing the Prime Minister, John Howard, and the imbecile leader of the opposition, Kim Beazley, out of Parliament and office for their ridiculous and illogical attempts to gain political advantage by exploiting the underlying racism and cringe mentality in the local ‘culture’. Contagious or Related: Ratzinger Succumbs posted by peptide, 2006-09-15 16:40:33 Not to be backgrounded in world affairs, the new Hitler youth Pope of Rome, Ratzinger (by any other name) spouted his ultra-right-wing divisionist diatribes to the world today – are there any Muslims out there? Ratzinger’s highly inflammatory references to a previous crusading Pope’s diatribes against Islam were intended to inform the world that he has not forgotten his Nazi past, Ratzinger has left little doubt as to what he really represents – there is no cause for concern, however, as he is in ‘good’ company; neo-cons, Zionists and other ultra-conservative groups welcomed confirmation from the Pope that he is one of them. Ratzinger’s credentials as a representative of his God and saviour, the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, were left wanting – papal integrity plummeted to new depths today. BYU places '9/11 truth' professor on paid leave posted by Tad Walch via rialator, 2006-09-14 07:45:17 PROVO — Brigham Young University placed physics professor Steven Jones on paid leave Thursday while it reviews his involvement in the so-called "9/11 truth movement" that accuses unnamed government agencies of orchestrating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. The Impending Collapse of Zionism posted by Kathleen Christison via rialator, 2006-09-13 04:47:21 Is it only observers outside the conventional mainstream who have noticed that by its murderous assault on Lebanon and simultaneously on Gaza, Israel finally exposed, for even the most deluded to see, the total bankruptcy of its very founding idea? Disturbing Implications: Something in the Air posted by Ibis, 2006-09-12 06:37:09 ‘Siberia and today’s arctic regions of Canada will be the future breadbaskets of the world.’ I read this forecast in the sixties and immediately scoffed at the prediction. The guy who made these predictions is either nuts, a charlatan, or both, I thought. The regions referred to are renowned for their permafrost, and aside from some mosses, lichens and ‘summer’ grasses, there is no way those areas could yield a viable supply of food for “the world” – that was then! NEO-CON IMPERIALISM OR APOCALYPSE NOW? posted by Darren Owen, 2006-09-08 16:30:43 It appears that the greater majority of the American public have not kept pace with the rapidly developing neo-con “Bush Doctrine” of pre-emptive military strikes against sovereign states as laid out in last Septembers National Security Strategy. A strategy expressly forbidden and outlawed in the Geneva Convention and Nuremberg Treaty but long sought after by neo-cons seeking a global American empire predicated on military force. A doctrine that establishes the unquestioned sovereignty of the United States over any an all international laws while subjecting all other sovereign states to yield to the power of its military might. As James Kurth of Swarthmore College recently stated in an article in the National Interest, “Today there is only one empire, the global empire of the United States.” (full story and 1 comments) social/political / international
9/11: The "Unifying Myth" for the War on Terror posted by Mike Whitney via rialator, 2006-09-08 16:20:31 To a large extent, the war on terror is a shabby promotional scheme designed to mobilize the nation for a permanent state of war while curtailing civil liberties. There’s nothing original in this analysis, but it does explain the importance of media as a vehicle for Bush’s public relations campaign. It also explains why high-ranking officials in the administration are still provided unlimited air-time to reiterate the same bland bromides over and over again without being challenged. The Law is an Ass, by Philip Ruddock posted by budgie, 2006-09-08 11:42:22 The Attorney General of Australia, Philip Ruddock, announced today that broader ranges of people in the community (including non-Muslims) are to be targeted as “terrorists!” Ruddock also stated that persons who are not ‘terrorists’ need not be alarmed as his new wider classification should not concern ‘them’(?)
In view of today's announcement, Ruddock is now obliged by Law to define what he imagines constitutes a (non-Muslim) "terrorist". It is well known by legal advocates around the globe that a clear and comprehensive definition of "terrorism" would label the Bush, Blair, Olmert and Howard regimes as terrorist! The onus is now on that Nazi buffoon Ruddock, to account for the vagaries in his 'determinations'. The Attorney General risks being branded a paranoid and delusory idiot if he fails to clarify his previous statements. At present he remains the focus of scorn, ridicule and a source of public entertainment. Do your best Mr. Attorney (imbecile) General! (full story and 1 comments) injustice/law / national
The Enemy is You! posted by finn, 2006-09-06 08:20:52 It is becoming more evident each day; the real target of new draconian laws and policies is not the (fabricated) terrorist ‘threat’, it is the domestic population – the enemy is you! The initial indicator (for this writer) was Section 543 of the Australian Defence Forces manual, which describes attack strategies against civilians and local populations – it should not be forgotten that Australia is a micro version and imitator of the USA and to a lesser extent the UK. War is Not a Solution for Terrorism posted by Howard Zinn via rialator, 2006-09-02 07:12:48 There is something important to be learned from the recent experience of the United States and Israel in the Middle East: that massive military attacks, inevitably indiscriminate, are not only morally reprehensible, but useless in achieving the stated aims of those who carry them out.
