The Tortured Law on Torture posted by Robert Scheer via reed, 2008-05-14 07:19:32
Ah yes, those torture confessions have proved so useful. That, at least, was the claim of our president in justifying one of the most egregious assaults ever on this nation’s commitment to the rule of law. But now comes news that charges have been dropped against the so-called Sept. 11 attacks’ 20th hijacker, one of dozens so identified, because the “evidence” he supplied under torture and later recanted is not credible enough to go to trial. Bush Tour Diminished by Hezbollah Show of Force posted by Jim Lobe via rialator, 2008-05-14 07:06:22
WASHINGTON, May 12 (IPS) - While this week's trip by President George W. Bush to Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt was never conceived as a triumphant "victory lap" around the region, the swift rout of U.S.-backed forces by Lebanon's Hezbollah Friday has provided yet another vivid illustration of the rapid decline in Washington's influence in the Middle East during his tenure. Serbian elections: Russian ally full of shit! posted by petrovic, 2008-05-13 05:01:27
There is no shortage of commentary regarding the Serbian elections nor is there any shortage of misinformation. Western ‘news’ media were quick to announce a ‘victory’ for the pro-Western party led by Tadic; however, while Tadic outpolled his primary nationalist opponent he is clearly unable to govern in his own right, a minor fact the western ‘news’ media ‘overlooked!’ (full story and 2 comments)

Rallying Serbs from The Hague posted by Christine Spolar -- intro 'dragan', 2008-05-10 21:59:10
The most strategically vital region in Europe has always been the Balkans -- even more so today for energy reasons. Often unstated but undeniable, the most powerful and enduring Balkan nation is Serbia! The world is about to get a taste of the indomitable Serbian spirit once again. The monumental mistake the West/America made in the region was to target Serbia as an enemy and install organised Muslim criminals as an (illegitimate) government in Kosovo.

All attempts to illegally appropriate Kosovo are doomed to fail; the elimination of all Serbia and its people must necessarily precede the theft of Kosovo! If it’s war you want, then it’s war you will get!

Remove all foreign occupation forces from the Serbian province of Kosovo, including all occupying military bases or we will remove them from OUR territories – who do you think you’re fucking with? We have fought fascist forces on numerous occasions and prevailed and we will prevail again! How dare you attempt to steal our sacred Kosovo!

Serbs vote Sunday -- national identity or dissolution posted by Andrew Wander via druze, 2008-05-10 09:22:02
Nis, Serbia; and Zubin Potok, Kosovo - The Serbian Radical Party's election rally in the main square of the southern town of Nis seemed, at first glance, like any other campaign event. Popular music played over the PA system. Badges and hats were sold from makeshift stalls, and families with children listened to the speakers. (full story)

Rising opposition in Europe: U.S. plans for NATO run into a wall posted by Sara Flounders via rialator, 2008-05-10 06:35:38
NATO held a three-day meeting in Bucharest, Romania, on April 2 to 4, attended by George W. Bush and other heads of state. It was a stormy affair. This alliance of imperialist military powers, long dominated by the U.S., was divided on several proposals being pushed by Washington. One was the proposed further expansion of NATO eastward to include Ukraine and Georgia, which were once part of the Soviet Union and sit on the border of Russia. Another was the plan to place a U.S. ballistic missile system in the Czech Republic and Poland, the heart of Europe. Another was Washington’s recognition of independence for the Serbian province of Kosovo. (full story)

Cycles of life/death: a time to Kill posted by major mitchell, 2008-05-09 22:55:25
Is there really a time to kill? A question that has bedevilled pacifists, philosophers, theologians and ALL sentient beings throughout the ages? I would state clearly and emphatically now that all sane humans find killing other human beings the most repugnant act possible! Killing is aberrant behaviour to the extreme and comes at huge cost for the killer, regardless of whether we/society sanction the killing -- soldiers/military, police etc -- or not! It’s all but over for the dogged Clinton but few commentators are citing the word that finished her chances, “OBLITERATE!” A word that carries every connotation the American people are tired of. WAR is no longer a winning strategy in the USA and for very good reason! (full story)

Trilateral Commission: global elite gather in D.C. posted by James P. Tucker Jr. via reed, 2008-05-06 21:46:55
The Trilateral Commission—one of the three most powerful globalist groups in the world—held closed-door meetings right here in Washington, D.C. from April 25 to 28. True to form, those members of the media who knew about the meeting—or were themselves participants in the proceedings—refused to discuss what went on inside or report on the attendees. Luckily, AFP’s own editor, Jim Tucker, was on the scene to bust this clandestine confabulation wide open. (full story)

WASHINGTON, May 5 (IPS) - Three weeks after the 9/11 terror attacks, former U.S. Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld established an official military objective of not only removing the Saddam Hussein regime by force but overturning the regime in Iran, as well as in Syria and four other countries in the Middle East, according to a document quoted extensively in then Undersecretary of Defence for Policy Douglas Feith's recently published account of the Iraq war decisions. Uncle Albert In Memory of Albert Hofmann and his discovery – LSD-25 posted by quin, 2008-05-05 10:48:18
Albert Hofmann died last week aged 102; his longevity may be attributed to the ‘acid’ he first synthesised in ’43 -- then again it may not, but it doesn't really matter! Reams could be written on the effects of LSD but in memory and homage to a great man and pioneer we leave the description to him. Following is an excerpt from his book, “LSD - My Problem Child:” (full story)
