It’s confirmed, total panic grips Howard government over Hicks scandal! The novice Environment Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, has weighed in on the Hicks debate with a wild accusation inferring that Hicks was “.. seeking to destroy our civilisation.” -- what next? Turnbull's statement follows hot on the heels of the stratospheric logic (see link) displayed by the Federal Treasurer in his effort to save the government -- who's next?
Turnbull’s statement could only be described as the hysterical ranting of a political neophyte and a very transparent attempt to take pressure off the government for its appalling failure in its duty of care to Hicks. The stench issuing from the conditions placed on Hicks as part of his plea ‘bargain’ finds its source in the political capital of the nation. The Attorney General, Philip Ruddock was quick to distance himself from the obvious charade, "I wasn't advised about the specifics … I was aware that there were discussions because some issues that they were discussing required clarification as to what Australian law might impact on Hicks when he returns", he said.
After realising the prudent course in the circumstances is silence, the Prime Minister has been advised to inspect the world’s largest uranium mine in South Australia – it is hoped the local media will shift its focus from the Hicks issue and give Howard some breathing room. Another indication that the Prime Minister is in trouble is the presence of female abuse advertisements on the local media – these ads ALWAYS appear when Howard faces major problems and seeks to distract and dupe the public.
As previously stated, there are no saving graces for the derelict and manipulative Australian government in relation to David Hicks. There are no excuses for abandoning our citizens to murderous foreign powers that openly employ torture and other forms of horrendous abuse.
