Once should be enough

How many times must criminals in government BE EXPOSED before they ARE EXPOSED? That is the question today. Inept, deceptive and criminal conservative governments from Bush to Howard have been exposed for criminal activities and incompetence so many times this writer has lost count yet not one senior official has been jailed! Executive and legislative powers in the hands of criminals subvert every aspect of honest government. From the Libby presidential pardon in the US to the scapegoating of Haneef in Oz, governments reek of total corruption and abuse of power. The people may have had enough -- will the culpable finally be brought to justice?
The precedent for placing State leaders on trial has been set at the Hague; no obstructions legal or otherwise exist that would prevent the ‘aluminium tubing,’ Oz Prime Minister; Blair, ‘45 minute attack’ and Bush, ‘WMD’ and ‘phantom uranium’ shipments being placed on trial for crimes against humanity. It is a simple matter for any political candidate to include the arrest of these criminals as essential policy in their bid for office. A high percentage of the population would have found expression through such representation; however, candidates appear timid or afraid to address the criminality of the “coalition of the willing” or to apportion responsibility for the deaths of over one million innocent civilians – a most extraordinary situation from a historical perspective!
Perhaps a gentle reminder of mildly inappropriate behaviour from former US President, Richard Nixon, which resulted in impeachment proceedings and forced resignation may serve to contrast a lollipop offence (Watergate) with the heinous crimes of today’s leaders. Nixon was also responsible for unnecessarily prolonging the Vietnam War for purely political purposes – the cost in lives was enormous. But Nixon’s efforts pale compared to the ongoing efforts of Bush, Blair and Howard; one million innocent civilian deaths, two million displaced persons and the ruin of an entire nation constitutes one of the most horrendous humanitarian disasters in modern history yet these men arrogantly remain in power or in other positions of responsibility.
It is fitting that we are all reminded of the above events and made aware of historical comparisons, as this short piece is written as an indictment of today’s cringing populations – may the historical record bear witness to the FACT.
Future generations accessing vast databases of digital information will discover that not all humanity had taken leave of its senses or its sense of justice and moral outrage -- not all were AFRAID to state the incriminating TRUTH or to doggedly pursue the offenders!
In view of the pathologically absurd denial of the holocaust in Iraq not one religious, secular, political or moral leader who doesn’t express their outrage and demand that justice be served, HAS ANY CREDIBILITY WHATSOEVER!
The damning reality of INTERVENTIONIST Iraq condemns us ALL but especially those who claim political, religious or moral affiliations.
Today, George W Bush read a carefully prepared speech comparing previous military losses (Vietnam, Korea) with Iraq. This speech was intended to persuade a highly sceptical public to support a thoroughly inept and incompetent regime in its criminal war. What actually oozed from Bush’s mouth amounted to nothing more intelligent than, “mission accomplished” or “known unknowns,” for pity’s sake! Meanwhile in Oz, John Howard engaged himself in surreptitious, sordid dealings with leaders of a perverse religious cult in order to secure his besieged seat in Parliament!
Indeed, it is timely and appropriate that attention is drawn to these criminals and their crimes, particularly in view of the approaching APEC summit and forthcoming Federal elections.
It may seem odd in view of the above, but I never lose faith in humanity or its ability to choose the right and rectify the wrong.
Peace.
