The software companies mentioned in this story do not conform to the hacker ideal or ethic; by their own admission they seek PROFIT and have no moral problem with supplying their surveillance software to whomsoever wishes to purchase it. Real hackers have no difficulty accessing unlimited funds via their digital talents; elite hackers by nature are against all forms of social oppression and intrusions on personal privacy -- in other words surveillance states are anathema to hackers. Obama, in his latest press conference was forced to answer questions on the 'OccupyWallStreet' protests -- that event follows coverage by the mass media, which had previously maintained a strict media blackout on all coverage of the protest movement. Over the past few years, we have had a few cases were Google decided to censor a report of ours from their search results. We documented one case publicly here. We usually don’t make a big deal about it online because people tend to just dismiss us as “crazy” when we do. However, this latest case is blocking our new report on the #OccupyWallStreet movement and we would like to bring it to the attention of the many supporters within the movement. Only a few decades past, media concentration laws prohibited the formation of the HUGE information and media companies that exist today -- a direct result of relentless political lobbying and ‘sweetening’ by minority interests. I would also like to draw attention to the changes in society’s mobility, freedoms and liberties that have contracted as media concentration in fewer hands has increased – an undeniable correlation exists between the two phenomena. In the wake of the recent massacres in Norway, which killed over ninety citizens, the world was surprised to learn that the killer was NOT a bearded Jihadist – such is the power of mass media saturation over an extended period. The lunatic in this instance was a Norwegian local with a right wing Christian fundamentalist background. What is interesting to note however, are the numerous instances of media racial profiling; the killer is universally described as blonde, six feet tall, blue eyes etc, emphasising that extremists are not necessarily swarthy or dark featured 'foreigners.' The media seems less concerned with the fact that lunacy knows no racial boundaries than it is with highlighting the home grown terrorist factor!
