Positive Options posted by budgie, 2007-12-05 08:41:00 It’s not over by any stretch. If global warming/climate chaos, GM food, or geological upheaval doesn’t get us first then European social democracies will prove the superior model over laissez-faire grab it and run, American style capitalism. It’s goodbye and good riddance America and no thanks for plunging the world into chaos and war. We do not need you nor do we want your form of ‘freedom, liberty and democracy’ dripping in the blood of innocent men, women and children. You can stick your poisonous system and vile ideology up your collective national arse! (full story and 2 comments) imperialism / international
Moral Victory on offer: will Australia take the challenge or Cringe? posted by nano, 2007-11-24 08:54:56 The world is at a crossroads today, NOW! The conservative criminals who are responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent men, women and CHILDREN in the Middle East and Iraq MUST be held to account if the world would survive in a new era of co-operation as opposed to destruction and senseless antagonism. Whose Nation? posted by yarra, 2007-11-13 10:57:15 Due to the failure of successive Australian conservative and Labor governments to pursue viable technological and scientific options in the past our economy today almost exclusively relies on resource extraction. The plainest description would be a hole-in-the-ground economy – the picture says it all. There is no such thing as eco-mining; the ugly, rapacious, scaring of our land is relentless and proceeds at speed with minimal regulatory intervention. Absolutely no provision exists that encourages mining companies to return some benefits/profit to the nation and its people! The reason is simple, Transnationals and Corporations dictate policy to incumbent governments and aspiring opposition parties! Representative government no longer exists; ‘our’ major political parties clearly serve the interests of Mega-corporations and Transnationals. Dragons and other Crises posted by quin, 2007-11-07 06:45:59 Since the South Asian earthquake and ensuing tsunami the Indonesian Archipelago has continued on its very unstable geological course. Every week geophysicists are treated to more rumblings from the earth’s crust. All things being connected in the geophysical sense, it is highly likely that recent volcanic activity in one area of the ‘ring of fire’ will unleash catastrophic forces on the other side of the world – in areas that have high density city populations. I am referring to the release of thousands of megatons of energy the destructive power of which makes a nuclear blast equivalent to a fireworks display. The Real Masters of War posted by zoran, 2007-10-20 00:22:13 Consider the very real possibility of a persecuted European nation waging a covert guerilla war against the most powerful forces on the planet and prevailing. Many would be surprised to learn that the real masters of war are the most unlikely nations. The three nations proven to excel in covet, guerilla wars of attrition are Afghanistan, Serbia and Vietnam – the historical record bears this out. Not surprisingly these nations have been at war for most of their history – not by choice but by circumstance. It seems their strategic locations have doomed them to a history of constant struggle and conflict; and nothing has changed today! (full story and 1 comments) peace/war / international
Democracy, my arse! posted by Kit, 2007-09-28 14:26:04 Consider this, you duped, deluded, dunces! Oz has a population of 20 million yet the government has spent (since ’96) 1.5 BILLION of OUR taxpayers dollars on ADVERTISING alone – specifically for purposes of maintaining their hold on POWER! This situation raises many questions regarding the ‘free and fair’ society in which we live, not least the FARCE that democracy has become in Australia. How is it fair if the costs of informing/reaching the people amount to the above obscene figure – who is able to afford these sums? Of course the incumbent government by taxing us into oblivion; however, outside interests (that control our ‘democracy’) are easily able to afford these sums. The interests to which I refer are known to us all, the TAX MINIMISING Super Corporations plundering our resources and boasting profits of tens of billions per year, while returning virtually nothing to our society. Bleeding Hearts Club posted by Captain, 2007-08-29 11:58:50 The propaganda machine is humming; even the radicals assist our cause – the more opposition and division the better! The Middle East has been successfully destabilised and plunged into chaos. We have appropriated the second largest oil supply on the planet and have ensured our presence in the region for decades to come by simply continuing our policies of antagonising/radicalising locals and encouraging them to take up arms. We have forced the world to assist us by creating conflict and wars in diverse locations. Our economy is A WAR ECONOMY, local production is now almost entirely war related; it would be suicidal for America to engage in any peaceful solutions. (full story) peace/war / international
Red Queen Logic posted by bishop, 2007-08-27 23:46:22 A State responsible for over 2 million civilian deaths in Indo-China (indiscriminate carpet bombing) and over 1 million civilian deaths in Iraq recently declared that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard should be designated a terrorist organisation! It seems the higher you go in American politics the less brainpower is required to make decisions. The Gulf of Tonkin ‘incident,’ the USS Liberty attack of the 6 day war, the WMD Iraq deceptions and the latest absurd government explanations (garble) we are asked to swallow regarding the destruction of WTC buildings and the anthrax letters makes Alice in Wonderland the epitome of rational thought and logic. When 2nd is preferable posted by major mitchell, 2007-08-05 21:47:52 Few wish to be second in any type of endeavour; however, there is one occasion, among few others, where it is imperative to be second; and that is when a nation desires to detonate a nuclear weapon -- or more precisely, use nuclear weaponry in circumstances/conflicts that do NOT warrant their use. A little leak/rumour has it that a “dirty nuke” is to be detonated in the continental USA in order to justify the use of “bunker busters” on Iran and other areas of conflict. The democratic prerogative: whose world? posted by fish, 2007-08-05 13:11:03 What did you expect?
If you place liars and criminals in government do you expect justice and peace, or war, plunder and destruction? There is NOT one honest person today that leads a nation – all are corrupt, do you expect honesty and integrity from sewer rats? Liars and jackals reign supreme and occupy all the seats of power; do you expect consideration, fair treatment or cynicism and deception? (full story) social equality/unity / international
Kevin Rudd: nobody’s man posted by cleaves, 2007-08-03 13:00:48 Who or what is a Kevin Rudd? Who does he represent, what distinguishes him from his conservative opponent, John Howard? In answer to the first question, NOTHING, Rudd is a proven non-entity; he represents no one I am able to locate, notwithstanding many Australians will vote against Howard but not for Rudd. There is nothing that distinguishes Rudd from Howard; he is only a paler version, a conservative with a lower case “c”. Rudd has supported Howard on more occasions than he has opposed him – and for those who may be wondering, yes, Rudd is the ‘opposition’ leader. (full story) social/political / national
Talking Walls posted by peptide, 2007-07-07 13:50:49 The mainstream press is full of stories but for ONE BIG exception; a FAILURE the proportions of which promise to sear the pages of history. The criminal intervention and the subsequent holocaust and humanitarian disaster that is Western Interventionist Iraq! The media is at pains to avoid this story for obvious reasons -- it participated in the original ruse and deception upon which a full-scale military invasion was launched. The list of war criminals must therefore include the name of Rupert Murdoch as he clearly carries equal responsibility with Bush, Cheney, Blair, Howard and the conservative forces that support them. Arrests for war crimes must extend to Murdoch and other complicit media moguls/organisations – Murdoch is damned by his own words, delivered in numerous speeches and addresses to his fellow criminal conservatives. The K.I.S.S. Principle posted by Kismo, 2007-06-30 15:25:38 For those not familiar with the acronym ‘KISS’, it expands to, “Keep It Simple Stupid”! The KISS (K) principle was/is the most invaluable teaching/training aid in the IT industry, especially in the early days when people actually feared the ‘complexity’ of computers. Anyone who is confronted by an overwhelming amount of ‘information’ tends to lose themselves in a sea of confusion. Fortunately, a very bright and creative mind developed the ‘K’ principle for dealing with these situations. (full story) social/political / international
Cults of Unreason and the End of Species posted by dreamboat, 2007-06-29 12:44:23 People today seem perplexed as civilisation as we know it plummets into the abyss. Yet, in the broad sense, the future is entirely predictable. The much lauded system of economic rationalism has resulted in huge disparities in wealth comparable to ancient societies; the wealth of Pharaoh-God-Kings of the past was staggering and in stark contrast to the wealth of their subjects. The peoples’ living standards were maintained at ‘adequate‘ levels to ensure a fit work/slave force for their rulers – remind you of anything, are you able to draw any comparisons today? In fact ancient Egypt (utilising modern poverty statistics) would have fared better in the social sense than most of today’s societies. So much for economic rationalism and laissez-faire capitalism! The inequity of today’s economic reality is far from mysterious; however, one mystery remains, the masses of today tolerate far greater inequities than the masses of yesterday. Mind Slaves of Our Time posted by fish, 2007-06-23 13:08:28 The title suggests the sci-fi genre or the paranoid delusions of conspiracy theorists; surely it couldn’t be possible that millions of people today are slaves to particular worldviews formulated by men in the distant past. Views that enslave, terrorise and create a subservient population. Intolerant views that challenge refutation with physical and psychological violence. Preposterous views that cripple the reasoning faculties and the intellect -- men flying and living inside whales, materialisations, stories relating to sociopathic, blood lusting, faecal-eating Gods.
Prior to the last reference most would have already guessed religion as the most likely pathogen responsible for most of today’s social ills. (full story and 1 comments) social equality/unity / international
