Food Summit Sham posted by peptide, 2008-06-04 07:17:30
Always look where they don’t want you to look! Have we all noticed who is grabbing the headlines at the UN food summit? Robert Mugabe may not have supplied ample distraction so invite the Iranian leader, Mahmmoud Ahmadinejad, and guarantee a diversion! Neither leader fails to mouth off given the opportunity. Both men are very high value headline grabbers. Their presence at the food summit, I would suggest, is no accident. (full story and 2 comments)

Top Oz cop busted! posted by budgie, 2008-06-03 08:51:02
Let it be a warning to all governments that favour harsh and pervasive regulatory powers, especially those without adequate oversight and accountability that ‘human frailty’ poses the greatest threat to the best-laid plans of social regulation! (full story and 1 comments)

Robert Mugabe ‘Kneepads’ Smith, ranting over Mugabe posted by dingo, 2008-06-02 01:53:24
The Australian foreign minister Stephen ‘kneepads’ Smith, is in a ‘tiff’ over Robert Mugabe attending a UN food security summit in Rome to which Smith is also invited -- my God, who will they invite next? Smith, widely perceived as a knee-walking, sycophant and American lackey, may be attempting to assert himself as a man by vocally criticising Mugabe. However, images of Smith cringing to the mocking laughter of Condoleezza Rice at a Washington press conference recently, remain fresh in peoples’ minds; achieving manhood my elude Smith yet again! John Howard charged with war crimes posted by nano, 2008-06-01 21:57:10
ABC news radio today reported that a group of Australian citizens, inclusive of academics, lawyers and other professionals, lodged a submission to the ICC to have former PM, John Howard, charged with war crimes for his participation in the illegal invasion of Iraq. Howard with cohorts Bush and Blair, formed the so-called ‘coalition of the willing;’ a rogue alliance that acted against the correct advice of the UN and in violation of numerous international conventions relating to pre-emptive warfare. America's massive military budget is irrational, costly and dangerous posted by Robert Scheer via reed, 2008-06-01 10:49:12
What should be the most important issue in this election is one that is rarely, if ever, addressed: Why is U.S. military spending at the highest point, in inflation-adjusted dollars, than at any time since the end of World War II? Why, without a sophisticated military opponent in sight, is the United States spending trillions of dollars on the development of high-tech weapons systems that lost their purpose with the collapse of the Soviet Union two decades ago? Rudd’s avoidance of major issues hits new high! posted by junior, 2008-06-01 02:26:08
Kevin Rudd’s now pathological avoidance of the major issues facing Australia has hit a new, if not absurd, high! Facing the wholesale rape of our nation’s natural resources by Transnational mining companies; the worst drought on record; rapidly escalating fuel costs; the failure of free-market capitalism and a geopolitically, inappropriate relationship with a failing superpower, what is Rudd’s response? He ‘tackles’ the earth-shattering crisis of childhood obesity and launches an attack on a world renowned Australian Artist! But we should all be grateful for small mercies; the upside is he hasn't declared war on ingrown toenails! (full story and 1 comments)

The Corporate State and the Subversion of Democracy posted by Chris Hedges via rialator, 2008-05-31 21:07:57
Chris Hedges gave this keynote address on Wednesday, May 28, in Furman University’s Younts Conference Center.

When it was announced in May that President Bush would deliver the commencement address, 222 students and faculty signed and posted on the school’s Web site a statement titled “We Object.” The statement cites the war in Iraq and the administration’s “obstructing progress on reducing greenhouse gases while favoring billions in tax breaks and subsidies to oil companies that are earning record profits.”

“We are ashamed of the actions of this administration. The war in Iraq has cost the lives of over 4,000 brave and honorable U.S. military personnel,” the statement read. “Because we love this country and the ideals it stands for, we accept our civic responsibility to speak out against these actions that violate American values.” (full story)

American pariah forced to buy 'allies' posted by Subodh Varma via rialator, 2008-05-31 20:28:57
NEW DELHI: The tale of massive fraud and embezzlement of millions of dollars by the US military in its operations in Iraq continues. Bill Henson in his studio The ‘Art’ of Distraction posted by barra, 2008-05-30 22:33:35
There is something not quite right about the current hysteria surrounding the work of internationally acclaimed Australian artist, Bill Henson. The speed at which police became involved in Henson’s latest exhibition and the dense, but leading comments made by high ranking politicians regarding some of the works may indicate that ‘things are not what they appear to be!’ (full story and 2 comments)

European Union runs into roadblocks in its plans for Kosovo posted by Economist via reed, 2008-05-30 09:07:41
WHEN the Austro-Hungarian empire declared war on Serbia in July 1914, few could have imagined that the result would be the demise not only of the Habsburg empire, but also of the Russian and Ottoman ones. Nobody believes that Serbia's challenge to the European Union over Kosovo will be anything like as dramatic; most Serbs want to join the EU, not destroy it. Yet 100 days after Kosovo declared independence, Serbia has done a lot better than anybody expected in thwarting the EU's plans for it. (full story)

Spring Offensive posted by gan, 2008-05-29 10:00:09
In an unexpected strategic twist – opinion favoured an offensive during an attack on Iran -- local forces and militias throughout the Middle East and Central Asia are mobilising for a simultaneous and concerted offensive against the American invader/occupier! A coordinated, simultaneous offensive of this type would smash the hold America has on a number of nations in the region. America simply does not have the human resources to respond to such a coordinated offensive. Nor would America’s few allies be willing to fight illegal wars of occupation on America’s behalf! Bush exposed yet again and again and again … posted by Kingfisher, 2008-05-28 22:28:47
I have lost count of the (too) numerous times Bush and senior members of his criminal government have been exposed for gross deceptions and criminal pursuits. If a HOLOCAUST in progress and an ECONOMIC MELT-DOWN AT HOME doesn’t rouse the people what would former press secretary, Scott McClellan, hope to achieve with his revelations? Less than a week prior to McClellan’s revelations, news of the loss/misappropriation of $15 BILLION in Iraq roused only a few yawns from the American population -- 'good luck' with book sales, Scott! Artist alert in the wake of attacks by conservative despots posted by quill, 2008-05-27 23:34:42
Conservatives, anal regulators, perverts and politicians fail to realise that Artists are responsible for ALL media output whether it’s fine art, television/film production, journalism, advertising etc etc; an attack on one Australian artist is an attack on ALL Artists! In view of the combined creative power that Artists possess it is a brave or very foolish ‘show pony’ that would offend the Arts and/or Artists. (full story)

Wrongly hanged man Australia, for all the wrong reasons posted by yarra, 2008-05-27 10:38:01
Australia is making international headlines for all the wrong reasons again; Aussies seem to have a penchant for eating their boots. Located in the South Pacific under the rest of the world probably accounts for the difficulty Aussies have adjusting to diverse, cosmopolitan populations. (full story)

The Unified Majority of Nations posted by peptide, 2008-05-26 23:30:50
Russia and China have broadened their existing military alliance to include greater economic cooperation and support. Together with the developing nations of Africa, the Pacific, Latin America and Asia the new ‘Eastern’ alliance will form the most powerful economic bloc the world has ever known – that is progressive thinking and is worth contrasting to the violent contractionist approach of America and its allies.
