The Suspension of Belief and the Implosion of Meaning posted by budgie, 2006-06-08 17:20:34 Existence in a post-modern world, or living in a world where text/image (signs) have imploded and offer no inherent meaning outside a consciousness that animates/endows signs which in turn deliver meaning/endowment back to the same consciousness that so desperately needs to invest in meaning! In other words, ‘reality’ is up for grabs; creating your own reality in a world of competing ‘realities’ has become the principal pursuit of modern humanity. The Rolling Terrorist posted by dingo, 2006-06-07 08:43:26 The infamous Jemaah Islamiyah leader, Abu Bakar Bashir, is soon to be released after serving only twenty-six months of his thirty-month sentence for conspiracy in the Bali bombings, which killed over two hundred innocent civilians. The Australian Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, was quick to make a statement to the press lamenting Australia’s helplessness in the circumstances. Downer’s pathetic statement was designed to distract the world’s attention away from the steaming Indonesian Turd in John Howard’s face! We recall Howard ‘caving in’ over the West Papuan refugee issue and the insults levelled at him (from Indonesia) at that time. (full story) social/political / national
Requiem for the Faith-based Greenback posted by Mike Whitney, 2006-06-04 09:42:08 The great dollar sell-off has begun in earnest, although to a large extent, it is being concealed from the public. (full story) social/political / international
MADNESS posted by finch, 2006-06-03 07:00:07 The lack of skill and the madness of US Military personnel has once again made headlines. The latest exposed atrocity committed by US forces is the massacre of twenty-four innocent civilians (including women and children) in Haditha, Iraq. Little wonder that ineptitude and lack of expertise is displayed at the end of the chain of command when the top of the chain displays the greater degree of incompetence. But the most profound madness is exhibited as the inaction of the people of the USA. The madness of paralysis in the face of criminal government; the madness of inaction against the subversion of the Constitution of the United States; the madness of lost civil liberties without a struggle or insurrection. MADNESS has permeated every layer of society, from the top to the bottom, throughout the entire culture the disease is easily identified. MADNESS is the USA TODAY! Expediency: the Death of Ideology posted by budgie, 2006-05-25 07:35:15 While the forces of the traditional ‘left’ argue and analyse themselves into irrelevance (out of existence) the expedient right rumbles forward like a juggernaut. The left has been overwhelmed by simple expediency, the ‘whatever it takes’ (just get the job done) mentality is winning the day. Political correctness has all but destroyed the left whereas the right streaks ahead unburdened by any ethical issues. Ideology has been completely abandoned in favour of strategy. Any semblance to ideology is merely coincidental or a ruse/distraction. (full story and 1 comments) social/political / international
Symbiosis: Religion and the State posted by Kingfisher, 2006-05-23 08:18:43 Furthermore, theology induces passivity to authority – there is no better method of creating compliance than theology. Who else would quietly accept injustice, various forms of deprivation and huge disparities in the distribution of wealth than those who imagine it is the result of demerit, sin or the will of some God? Many extremely intelligent and capable people become observably handicapped when the subject/spectre of religion rears its illogical, paralysing and fear-inducing head. Never doubt the power that is born of theological indoctrination (child abuse) and the resultant fear that it engenders (usually for life). (full story) social/political / international
Failure of the Affluent State posted by nano, 2006-05-15 07:21:36 When the State fails and criminals steal the reigns of power corruption filters through State institutions. The agencies and the regulatory ‘authorities’ usually ‘toe the line’ and therefore cannot be trusted to serve the interests of the people. When the government becomes a den of thieves, liars and murderers it is the people who must restore sanity and legitimate government. (full story) social/political / international

Fundamentally Sick: Freud and Human Society posted by finch, 2006-05-10 08:14:50 For the purposes of this short paper it will suffice to restate the obvious and wonder how the health of modern human society could have been described as anything other than terminally ill. Society is only an expression of its component parts (people) and it is in that component that the overall health of any society can be measured. Accordingly, behavioural modification in a large group of people would alter the character and course of a society or nation. It is the behavioural modifiers that deserve attention. Boffins, Buffoons and Intelligence Agencies posted by junior, 2006-05-07 19:18:33 Paul O'Sullivan, Director-General ASIO, recently fielded questions after his public address at the Sydney Institute. In response to a question relating to the Cronulla race riots, the ASIO chief confirmed that extremism from any quarter (left or right) would attract the attention of our domestic watchdog. His answer prompted a memory recall of the most infamous failure of our domestic spy agencies, the Sydney Hilton Bombing of February ’78. (full story) social/political / national
The State of (Oz) Affairs posted by dingo, 2006-04-30 15:21:15 No greater tragedy has beset the Australian nation than at the present time. Everything that is un-Australian masquerades as the leader of the nation; is it necessary to name John Howard as the personification of everything that is un-Australian? A cowardly, cringing, lying, weevil does not an Australian make! Howard is the most grotesque, obnoxious flea that has ever inhabited political office. A perfect coward and pathological liar has won the last two elections by default. The local population desperately sought a viable opposition but found NONE; a high school student could have beaten Howard but not the present opposition; no greater congregation of self-centred, self-destructive, inept fools has ever sullied the floor of parliament. The Bleating Bush posted by peptide, 2006-04-25 17:40:53 Bush has responded to recent bombings in Egypt with a finger pounding demonstration of determined imbecility; he once again identifies “the enemy” as singular, implying a centralised terrorist group. If the USA had any credible intelligence they would know that the ‘enemy’ is in fact many separate and spontaneously occurring cells rather than a fixed hierarchical centralised group. Misinformation could be another reason the USA is failing in Iraq! US troops are unable to locate the “enemy” to which Bush and his administration continually refers – we should not forget that Rumsfeld briefs Bush on these matters.
