The Price of Inaction posted by Kingfisher, 2006-08-12 20:51:34 Consider the war in Lebanon a test scenario, a ‘dry run’ to test the international response to flagrant criminal actions. Now recall Russia’s failure to support Yugoslavia in the Balkans. Russia stalled and now Yugoslavia is no more, just a number of fragmented pseudo States overseen by NATO and the largest U.S. base of occupation in Europe, camp Bondsteel. It is well known today that the USA wouldn’t have dared if Russia had supported its traditional ally, but a drunken fool, Boris Yeltsin, was in command at the time, the rest is history. One Month in Lebanon posted by peptide, 2006-08-10 18:53:21 The war in Lebanon is one month and hundreds of innocent lives old; the international community is displaying all the coherence and cohesion it did in 1939 – déjà vu! The solution today is as it should have been then – stop the invader with a confederation of nations opposed to the war. It stops! Count the nations for war, two, against the war, the rest of the world! (full story) peace/war / international
Factored-in posted by nano, 2006-07-26 13:58:07 The middle of the twentieth century was the last occasion a belligerent nation stunned the world with violent military invasions. The major powers watched passively while a rogue military nation boldly occupied a number of sovereign states; the excuses offered by the aggressor at that time are similar to the inanities and diatribes the world is offered today by Israel and the U.S. However, some would make the distinction that the comments made by John Bolton and Condoleezza Rice are even less believable than the mendacious propaganda of Dr. Joseph Goebbels. The Concept of Innocence in Today’s World posted by finch, 2006-07-17 19:20:00 This short paper does not pretend to a thorough analysis, however, it is hoped that the few indications would suffice both to verify assertions and to indicate a rich direction for further research.
Innocence implies a lack of guilt or blamelessness; the images humans readily associate with the concept of innocence are those of infants, suckling babes, children and the newborn. A species tends to identify and place value on itself. In contrast to instinctive emotions we have the superimposition of cultural values/demands. Religion is the traditional repository and medium of constructed/cultural values. A cursory analysis would reveal that cultural values are not usually compatible with strong instinctive emotions. The value placed on the lives of defenceless children, infants and the newborn will be the criteria utilised to easily prove our assertions. Semiotic Sequences and Cultural Appropriation posted by peptide, 2006-07-12 17:07:40 I have recently discovered that donning a cleaner’s garb or waiter’s apron is a passport to a wealth of knowledge. A very rich harvest of information is available to every non-descript person in a service industry. A typical but dated example (I do not wish to compromise my current activities) would be an overheard conversation between two bankers regarding the then new strategy of reducing (their) costs while simultaneously narrowing the options/freedoms of the population. The banks and other large financial institutions decided that it would be far more expedient and profitable to run their businesses utilising a strategy of perpetual debt rather than temporary debt. ‘Joe and Josephine’ citizen were about to become perpetual debtors or economic slaves. A Preponderance of Rosas posted by Inana, 2006-07-04 22:48:28 This piece was prompted by an image of the 'Rosa Cherie' published in the Guardian International Newspaper a couple of weeks ago.
It indicated a full colour photograph of the Rosa Cherie, a new hybrid developed for the Birmingham flower show that looked like a vulva. It was juxtaposed with an image of a mitre, indicating the ongoing Episcopalian schism over a female bishopric.
Cherie Blair was photographed veiled and in conversation with Benedict the 16th precisely a week before, to discuss the decline in the European birth Rate. At the time of seeing both these images and the positioning of this woman as some sort of a Rosa Mundi, an example to western women of the stability of the capitalist ethos, in the light of her spouse prosecuting an illegal war against a soverign nation and giving conscience and voice to U.S imperialism, I felt the need to protest. The Starving Millions and “Kylie Minogue’s Ordeal” posted by finch, 2006-07-04 07:28:04 It’s called distraction, shifting focus, drawing attention away from the real issues that beset the majority of humans on the planet. We are all anticipating another round of distracting emotive images on our televisions; things are not going well for the powers, it’s time for another ‘circuit’ of abuse awareness commercials, always topical and a guaranteed mind-shifter. The public consciousness is a well-managed resource – never doubt it! (full story) mass media / international
The Gaza Strip and Jewish Ideology posted by nano, 2006-07-01 18:31:31 Whether you love them or hate them, Jews are nothing if not consistent. The first detailed record of genocide (committed by Jews) is in the Old Testament. As recorded in Jewish Scripture, the Jew Joshua claimed that Jehovah instructed him to slaughter the innocent civilian men, women, children and even babes on the tit in Canaanite cities and towns. These acts of barbaric atrocity were not problematic for the Jews of history or today’s Israeli Jews it would seem. One Jewish hostage, Gilad Shalit, and the State of Israel declares war – is this an over reaction or just cultural consistency? (full story and 1 comments) peace/war / international

MADNESS posted by finch, 2006-06-03 07:00:07 The lack of skill and the madness of US Military personnel has once again made headlines. The latest exposed atrocity committed by US forces is the massacre of twenty-four innocent civilians (including women and children) in Haditha, Iraq. Little wonder that ineptitude and lack of expertise is displayed at the end of the chain of command when the top of the chain displays the greater degree of incompetence. But the most profound madness is exhibited as the inaction of the people of the USA. The madness of paralysis in the face of criminal government; the madness of inaction against the subversion of the Constitution of the United States; the madness of lost civil liberties without a struggle or insurrection. MADNESS has permeated every layer of society, from the top to the bottom, throughout the entire culture the disease is easily identified. MADNESS is the USA TODAY! Reeking in Timor posted by nano, 2006-05-28 07:21:09 Did I hear that word again (communist)? The comment/accusation was directed at the Timorese Prime Minister Alkatiri during an Oz ‘newscast’ – certainly puts an interesting slant on the Timor situation! I was reminded of the emerging independence of the Congo and the short life of its charismatic leader, Patrice Lumumba. The intervention of the CIA and the subsequent assassination of Patrice were entirely ‘coincidental’ events! (full story and 3 comments) imperialism / international
Expediency: the Death of Ideology posted by budgie, 2006-05-25 07:35:15 While the forces of the traditional ‘left’ argue and analyse themselves into irrelevance (out of existence) the expedient right rumbles forward like a juggernaut. The left has been overwhelmed by simple expediency, the ‘whatever it takes’ (just get the job done) mentality is winning the day. Political correctness has all but destroyed the left whereas the right streaks ahead unburdened by any ethical issues. Ideology has been completely abandoned in favour of strategy. Any semblance to ideology is merely coincidental or a ruse/distraction. (full story and 1 comments) social/political / international
Conservative coalition enters Next Phase posted by peptide, 2006-05-19 16:33:52 In response to increased UN pressure to close the illegal Guantanamo Bay detention/torture centre, the Americans left no doubt, “we have no intention of closing Guantanamo Bay”. The flagrant illegality of Guantanamo Bay is lost on the Americans, or worse, stands as a defiant monument to American belligerence and unilateralism. The rest of the world can go to hell; Americans do what they want when they want, is that clear? (full story) imperialism / international
Fundamentally Sick: Freud and Human Society posted by finch, 2006-05-10 08:14:50 For the purposes of this short paper it will suffice to restate the obvious and wonder how the health of modern human society could have been described as anything other than terminally ill. Society is only an expression of its component parts (people) and it is in that component that the overall health of any society can be measured. Accordingly, behavioural modification in a large group of people would alter the character and course of a society or nation. It is the behavioural modifiers that deserve attention. Boffins, Buffoons and Intelligence Agencies posted by junior, 2006-05-07 19:18:33 Paul O'Sullivan, Director-General ASIO, recently fielded questions after his public address at the Sydney Institute. In response to a question relating to the Cronulla race riots, the ASIO chief confirmed that extremism from any quarter (left or right) would attract the attention of our domestic watchdog. His answer prompted a memory recall of the most infamous failure of our domestic spy agencies, the Sydney Hilton Bombing of February ’78. (full story) social/political / national
