Blackwater [Xe] Wins Piece of $10 Billion Mercenary Deal posted by Spencer Ackerman via fleet, 2010-10-02 23:35:01 Never mind the dead civilians. Forget about the stolen guns. Get over the murder arrests, the fraud allegations, and the accusations of guards pumping themselves up with steroids and cocaine. Dumping Dollars The Easy Way posted by Bob Chapman via fleet, 2010-09-30 21:21:28 "Russia is the exception and has thus far failed to use stimulus to weaken its rouble. Every time the IMF tries to suppress gold prices with its gold sales, Russia is right there buying it up, which must infuriate the elitists in Europe and the US. Almost 2/3s of their economy’s growth loss has been due to drought and fires, but with close to $500 billion in foreign exchange, they have no trouble buying gold, which puts those reserves at close to 24 million ounces. It is an easy way to dump dollars. (full story) miscellaneous / international
The Inner Workings of the International Gold Market posted by Bob Chapman via fleet, 2010-09-25 21:28:58 We recently saw gold at $1,300.00 an ounce. That is a long way from $35.00 an ounce on August 15, 1971, just a year shy of 40 years, from when President Nixon closed the gold window. Over the past ten years gold has been up about 20% a year. Shares and mint state graded numismatic coins have certainly outperformed gold bullion. We suppose we’ll know in the final analysis what government manipulation has done to prices and results. We believe that what they have done has been criminal for which they will never be prosecuted. On the other hand buyers have had an unprecedented opportunity to buy gold and silver, bullion, coins and shares at artificially suppressed prices. That condition still exists. Year-to-date in 2010 gold is up about 17%. (full story) miscellaneous / international
Transcript of Speech delivered to the UN General Assembly by the President of Iran posted by via fleet, 2010-09-23 21:46:30 Western Corporate media goes to great lengths to demonise this man and portray him as some kind of mass murdering maniac, when in fact all the mass murdering that has occurred over the past decade and continues to occur today, has been committed by US/NATO and other servile allies -- FACT!
Read the following speech and judge for yourself. Compare the violent, lying diatribes that issue from the mouths of Western leaders with this man's rational and balanced plea to the world for SANITY and FAIR PLAY!
My only criticism is the slavish homage and other references made to a man-made God (all Gods have been created by men!) However, that fault affects only deluded believers in fantasy and those slaves under the authority of (human) religious leaders, who CLEARLY have no higher interest than blood, guts and themselves; history bears irrefutable proof of that fact! But please, arrive at your OWN conclusions, thinking for yourself has not yet been deemed a crime: (full story and 1 comments) injustice/law / international
Israel and America -- Brazen Criminal States posted by Prof. Lawrence Davidson via reed, 2010-09-21 21:04:46 Neither American nor Israeli behavior is legal under international law. It is all a violation of Article 54 of Protocol I, Part IV, of the Geneva Conventions (1977). The law reads, “It is prohibited to attack, destroy, remove or render useless objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population, such as …drinking water installations and supplies…whatever the motive whether in order to starve out the civilian population, to cause them to move away, or for any other motive.” (full story) injustice/law / international

That’s the news for our energy future and for the future of great-power politics on planet Earth. Washington is already watching -- with anxiety. (full story) social/political / international

How Corporations Own the US Congress posted by Shamus Cooke via reed, 2010-09-15 07:02:00 With the November elections quickly approaching, the majority of Americans will be thinking one thing: "Who cares?” This apathy isn't due to ignorance, as some accuse. Rather, working people's disinterest in the two party system implies intelligence: millions of people understand that both the Democrats and Republicans will not represent their interests in Congress. Orwell That Ends Well posted by Randall Amster via fleet, 2010-09-08 06:58:31 In just the past week, a friend lost his cellphone, and another was robbed. One fell asleep in the bathtub, and another visited her old elementary school. A number had interesting fare for dinner. Some liked the weather, others lamented it. One notable presence in particular diligently posted her whereabouts at all times. Pretty typical stuff actually, and almost none of it interesting in the least.
