FUCK Yoo! posted by Bob Egelko via stan, 2009-12-08 19:33:51 The ‘HOPE and CHANGE’ (ROFL) administration of Corporatist PUPPET Barack Obaa’ma has intervened in the case against former Bush legal advisor, John Yoo, the man who LEGITIMISED TORTURE (for God’s sake) and left an indelible stain on a once proud and MORAL nation! The US had an opportunity to demonstrate to the world that it was serious about criminal reform in high office but lost out to the rancorous, corrupt ruling elite that control Washington. Copenhagen: the 'FIX' is in -- Corporatist sham EXPOSED! posted by John Vidal via fish, 2009-12-08 18:48:45 The UN Copenhagen climate talks are in disarray today after developing countries reacted furiously to leaked documents that show world leaders will next week be asked to sign an agreement that hands more power to rich countries and sidelines the UN's role in all future climate change negotiations. Remembering Patrice Lumumba posted by Danny Schechter via reed, 2009-12-08 08:26:51 I came to the Congo in search of its future and instead found myself marching down memory lane. On Thursday we went to the Museum of Beaux Arts, really a school for teaching sculpture, a subject close to me because my late dad sculpted in stone and wood as a hobby. The Audacity of Ethnic Cleansing posted by Mike Whitney via reed, 2009-12-05 20:46:07 "Today, we Afghans remain trapped between two enemies: the Taliban on one side and US/NATO forces and their warlord hirelings on the other." -- Malalai Joya (full story and 2 comments) imperialism / international
Currency Warfare -- Review of Financial Markets posted by Bob Chapman via stan, 2009-12-03 08:49:39 This past week was one of utmost turmoil in world markets. In the midst of an American holiday, Dubai faced bankruptcy for approx. $100 billion. Another unsuspected untoward event. The exposure of the Dubai event coming as it did could have been discovered at any given time, thus, we question the timing. We can understand why the London market was off some 300 Dow points, but exposure to Dubai was very limited in Europe, the US and in Asia. Could it have been an excuse to take down the US and European markets and gold and silver? We do not know, but we have come to question everything that happens. ETS PM, Kevin Rudd, exposed as Corporate Lackey and LIAR posted by AAP wire via fleet, 2009-12-03 00:34:56 It is no secret today that Capitalism’s last, desperate pitch to survive depends on (grossly unfair) Carbon Trading/Emission Schemes. Not surprisingly the Corporate world has dispatched their LACKEY politicians to implement Carbon Trading schemes in the respective nations in which they hold sway. However, schemes that disadvantage the average person with CRUSHING additional TAXES while COMPENSATING Industry/Big Business for polluting, may prove a very hard sell to say the least – one national leader EXPOSED, who’s next? Not always morbid or drear -- Oz Political reporting posted by spot, 2009-11-30 21:07:07 Oz politics reduces to a contest between two major parties vying for the ‘privilege’ of knee-walking in Washington! Few nations could care less which lackey leads Australia in shameless servitude to America; however, a good piece deserves broad exposure regardless of its dreary subject. In support and appreciation the Cleaves Editorial Team voted to break their policy-ban on reporting political flea fights; we are therefore pleased to offer our readership an out-of-character piece from the Oz mass media – God forbid, it actually drips with dry humour, sarcasm, and dare I say it, ‘wit,’ all wrapped in a style usually characteristic of the Independent Media! Better watch your step, Ms Crabb, verve and genuine reporting are better left to the Independents! (full story and 3 comments) social/political / national

Second Wave of Financial Tsunami likely to HIT in 2010 posted by Matthias Chang via reed, 2009-11-22 17:07:48 "The policy-makers of these countries faced with the total collapse of the international financial architecture have concluded that the solution, the only solution is quantitative easing (i.e. massive injection of liquidity) to salvage the “too big to fail” banks and (re)inflate their depressed economies. This is best reflected in Bernanke’s candid remark that, “the US government has a technology, called the printing press (or today, its electronic equivalent), that allows it to produce as many US dollars as it wishes at essentially no cost”.
This is the crux of the problem!" (full story) social/political / international

The [Obvious] New State Solution posted by Chris Hedges via gan, 2009-11-17 18:07:10 The collapse of the Palestinian Authority, the result of Israel’s 42-year refusal to implement a two-state solution, leaves the Palestinians no option but to unilaterally declare an independent state. Israel acted unilaterally when it announced independence in 1948. It is the Palestinians’ turn. It worked in Kosovo. It worked in Georgia. And it will work in Palestine. There are 192 member states in the United Nations and as many as 150 would recognize the state of Palestine, creating a diplomatic nightmare for Israel and its lonely ally the United States. Israel will face worldwide censure if it attempts to crush the independent state by force and very likely be subjected to the kind of divestment campaigns and boycotts that brought down the apartheid government of South Africa. The Forgotten Bird Of Paradise posted by John Pilger via stan, 2009-11-16 16:44:36 When General Suharto, the West’s man, seized power in Indonesia in the mid-1960s, he offered “a gleam of light in Asia”, rejoiced Time magazine. That he had killed up to a million [mostly ethnic Chinese] 'communists' was of no account in the acquisition of what Richard Nixon called “the richest hoard of natural resources, the greatest prize in South-east Asia”.
