Dollar Crisis In The Making posted by W Joseph Stroupe via reed, 2009-03-16 09:42:30 Increasingly ominous clouds are gathering in what could soon be the perfect storm against the United States dollar and against the present dollar-centric global financial order.
This is not shaping up to be a storm that anyone is trying to initiate, not even those who are actively driving for a new global financial order that is no longer centered on the dollar. Instead, it will result from a correlation of forces arising out of the deepening global financial and economic crises, coupled with recurring and conspicuous miscalculation on the part of some of the world's political, financial and economic leaders. U.S. Population International Laughing Stock posted by barra, 2009-03-15 22:53:38 It takes a major event/crisis to expose the REALITY and TRUE character of a nation and its people. The reality is usually light years from the myth, as America currently exemplifies. Home of the ‘brave’ and land of the ‘free’ couldn’t be further from the truth! Jon Stewart becomes angry public's avenger posted by Howard Kurtz via reed, 2009-03-15 21:23:54 WASHINGTON — Jon Stewart has amassed a passionate following as a sharp-edged satirist who punctures the balloons of the powerful with a caustic candor that reporters cannot muster. As public furor over the economic meltdown rises, the Comedy Central star has turned not just his humor but his full-throated outrage against financial journalists who he says aided and abetted the likes of Bear Stearns, AIG and Citigroup, especially those who work for the nation's top business-news channel. ICC — ‘Western kangaroo court’ posted by Olley Maruma via rialator, 2009-03-15 20:23:05 In Africa, the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague is considered by many to be a Western kangaroo court set up to hound, jail and silence African and Third world leaders who refuse to submit to the grip of Western hegemony and domination. The court's recent indictment of President Omar al Bashir of Sudan, has only provided more evidence to give credence to this view. (full story) injustice/law / international
SPP: Updating the Militarization and Annexation of North America posted by Stephen Lendman via reed, 2009-03-13 21:58:53 The title refers to the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), also known as the North American Union - formerly launched at a March 23, 2005 Waco, Texas meeting attended by George Bush, Mexico's President Vincente Fox, and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. It's for a tri-national agreement, below the radar, for greater economic, political, and security integration with secret business and government working groups devising binding policies with no public knowledge or legislative debate. Forbes “Richest:” a tragic listing of perverse values posted by budgie, 2009-03-13 20:11:13 Bill Gates, formerly of Microsoft Corp -- you remember, the producer of the world’s most unstable computer operating system -- has re-floated to the position of world’s ‘richest’ person, but I doubt the man is really ‘rich.’ (full story and 1 comments) social equality/unity / international
Revealed: Cheney Assassination Squads posted by Eric Black via rialator, 2009-03-12 06:55:24 At a “Great Conversations” event at the University of Minnesota last night, legendary investigative reporter Seymour Hersh may have made a little more news than he intended by talking about new alleged instances of domestic spying by the CIA, and about an ongoing covert military operation that he called an “executive assassination ring.” (full story) injustice/law / international
‘Arse-about’ Australia: inverted priorities and lost values posted by pidge, 2009-03-10 09:47:11 After the infamous, criminal, CONSERVATIVE leadership of John Howard (who was thrown out of Parliament on his racist, lying, servile, incompetent arse by the people) Australia’s tolerance for corruption and criminality in government and elite corporate circles, increased, I am very sorry to report! Taliban Truce and the Coming Storm in South Asia posted by Tom Burghardt via rialator, 2009-03-08 08:59:56 With growing instability and political turmoil inside Afghanistan and Pakistan, due in no small measure to American efforts on both sides of the "Afpak" divide to "stabilize" the region for multinational energy companies, this spring will see the rise of combat operations inside both countries. The Vacillating President: 70K troop surge or defeat in Afghanistan? posted by budgie, 2009-03-08 01:14:38 What’s it gonna be Baa’raack, a 70,000 troop surge in Afghanistan or failure? All we heard from the world’s highest profile house slave (you reprehensible, turncoat, fraud) was the constant refrain ‘we must fight the war in Afghanistan;’ the war is in Afghanistan, the war, ya di yar …; you even had servile Kevin ‘custard-face’ Rudd, the Oz PM, repeating the same refrain. Have a heart, Baa’raack, between you and Murdoch the hapless Oz PM doesn’t know which way to turn -- poor pathetic, Kevin, ‘we’ promise to give clear orders next time! Social paralysis persists in demoralised USA posted by Robert Scheer via reed, 2009-03-06 23:12:14 This is crazy! Forget the bleating of Rush Limbaugh; the problem is not with the quite reasonable and, if anything, underfunded stimulus package, which in any case will be debated long and hard in Congress. The problem is with what is not being debated: the far more expensive Wall Street bailout that is being pushed through--as in the case of the latest AIG rescue--in secret, hurried deal-making primarily by the unelected secretary of the treasury and the chairman of the Federal Reserve. Top U.N. Official Accuses U.S. of Inhuman 'Atrocities' in Iraq, Afghanistan posted by staff report via reed, 2009-03-06 22:12:58 The Iraq holocaust, as history describes it, has been occurring in full view of both the ICC and the UN for years. Now dated official reports from the Lancet and Johns Hopkins conservatively put the figures of murdered at over half a million! Speaking out now (far too late) after major crimes against humanity have been committed in plain view, one can only but ask, 'is late better than never' when time is measured in (over one million INNOCENT) human lives?
The world's legal and humanitarian institutions have FAILED us all. For shame! You have failed not only the people you are committed to protect but your reason for being. Do you NOW feel that it may be appropriate to hold the culpable to account? The entire world is aware of your miserable failures -- do something right, for Christ's sake! Have the 'direct and indirect perpetrators' of these heinous crimes arrested and put on trial! What hope for you and the world if you do not? (full story) human rights / international

The FARCE that is the International Criminal Court (ICC) posted by Kingfisher, 2009-03-05 00:40:46 China has questioned the “legitimacy” of the ICC immediately after it issued a warrant for the arrest of the President of Sudan, Omar Hassan al-Bashir, for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. The ‘legitimacy’ of the court is in question due to its flagrant PARTIALITY -- we haven’t heard a peep from the ICC regarding warrants and charges against American or Israeli war criminals to date! And that is not for lack of EVIDENCE, which is freely available in the PUBLIC DOMAIN, notwithstanding the compromising public admissions (relating to torture) made on national television by former VP, Dick Cheney! Is it possible that ICC (and UN) investigators are so blind or incompetent? Highly unlikely! OR IS THE COURT A BRAZENLY BIASED INSTITUTION OF POLITICAL CONVENIENCE AND THEREFORE LEGALLY ILLEGITIMATE in every sense of the word? (full story) imperialism / international
We won’t pay for your crisis! posted by Eric Walberg via fleet, 2009-03-04 07:05:48 Sarkozy’s ‘incoherence’ is a sign of the euro-impasse.
Riots swept across Eastern Europe this winter. In Latvia 100 were arrested when they attacked the Finance Ministry with cobblestones from the quaintly restored tourist area protesting unemployment, budget and wage cuts. In Lithuania, riot police fired rubber-bullets and tear gas on a trade union march. A demonstration in the Bulgarian capital turned violent leading to the arrest of 150 protesters. These three states are all members of the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM2), the euro’s pre-detention cell. They must join. (full story) social equality/unity / international
