The measure of a slave – a few simple tests posted by peptide, 2008-08-04 11:26:10 This little exercise is similar to those little games that monthly magazines are known for; like test your fitness level by timing how fast you can eat a box of chocolates while watching TV! Get the picture? But I’m afraid these tests provide accurate results. For example, do you believe the government’s explanation of the 9/11 disaster? Yes! Well, I’m sorry to inform you that you’re not only a compliant slave but also a moron! The following furnishes irrefutable proof. (full story and 2 comments) injustice/law / international
McCain, Anthrax & the Afghan Blunder posted by Robert Parry via reed, 2008-08-03 10:29:52 The scene of John McCain – during the anthrax attacks in October 2001 – opining to David Letterman that Iraq might be responsible underscores McCain’s central role in what may go down as one of the biggest strategic blunders in U.S. military history, the premature pivot from Afghanistan to Iraq. Star-spangled sheep ready for the slaughter posted by Kismo, 2008-08-02 08:06:07 Home of the brave, land of the ‘free,’ ay! The lyrics to a popular song require changing after it was revealed that border guards have powers to confiscate indefinitely, all personal printed and written material, including handwritten notes, all digital data contained on storage devices such as laptops, iphones, flashdrives etc, and write-only storage mediums such as CDs and DVDs. The regulation applies to all, citizen and non-citizen travellers. The law/regulation can be applied without reason or justification on whosoever a ‘guard’ chooses. The criteria for selection remains undefined, which allows for huge abuses of citizens’ rights. One can easily imagine certain personality types/guards disapproving of the way he/she was looked at and reacting immediately with confiscation and intimidation! Economic Free Fall? posted by William Greider via krill, 2008-08-01 09:32:46 Washington can act with breathtaking urgency when the right people want something done. In this case, the people are Wall Street's titans, who are scared witless at the prospect of their historic implosion. Congress quickly agreed to enact a gargantuan bailout, with more to come, to calm the anxieties and halt the deflation of Wall Street giants. Put aside partisan bickering, no time for hearings, no need to think through the deeper implications. We haven't seen "bipartisan cooperation" like this since Washington decided to invade Iraq. Robert Gates inadvertently predicts demise of USA posted by fish, 2008-08-01 02:23:59 Far too late, Defence Secretary Robert Gates, cited the destructive effects of the Perle, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney policy of unilateralism in a global world. "We cannot prevail if we act alone," Gates outlined in his National Defence Strategy paper. However, Gates also stressed the importance of [U.S.] "freedom of action in the global commons and strategic access to important regions of the world to meet our national security needs," which in effect cancels his call for cooperation – I count only three real U.S. allies, Israel, Britain and lackey Australia! You cannot succeed in gaining credibility in the international community by sending absurd mixed and contradictory messages, Bob – you want (the world) cake and to eat it too! John F Kennedy speech April 27, 1961 posted by fleet, 2008-07-31 01:10:20 A President with integrity invokes the same sentiments as his predecessor Abe Lincoln, who stated, “I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crises. The great point is to bring them the real facts."
Kennedy refers to the same sentiment in his speech to the Newspaper Publishers Association: “No President should fear public scrutiny of his program. From that scrutiny comes understanding; and from that understanding comes support or opposition. And both are necessary... I have complete confidence in the response and dedication of our citizens whenever they are fully informed.” (full story and 1 comments) social equality/unity / international
The Response! posted by peptide, 2008-07-29 11:37:26 Bob Dylan once penned a lyric that applies today more than ever, “you don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” Ninety nine percent of Americans today do not require any qualifications to determine that criminals in the White House, Pentagon, CIA, NSA and FBI have in concert subverted the sacred principles upon which the United States was founded and allowed Bankers and CEOs to rob the nation/people blind – the economy is in ruins and no amount of bullshit from ‘experts’ can reverse the inevitable collapse. Real life incident saturated in Symbolism posted by luis, 2008-07-26 00:56:38 An ‘American breed' fighting dog that attacked an 11 year-old Brazilian boy received the shock of its now very short life. The pit bull, a breed known for its ‘lack of intelligence’ and ‘propensity to attack the innocent,’ was repelled by a counter attack from the boy who lunged at the dog and fastened his teeth onto its neck. The boy lost a tooth fending off the ‘unprovoked’ attack from the vicious, mindless American breed. (full story) human rights / international
The Road to [Economic] Perdition: Paulson's Scatterbrain Capitalism posted by Mike Whitney via reed, 2008-07-25 09:33:45 Something has gone terribly wrong with the economy, but no one wants to say what it is. This is more than just a typical downturn in the demand-cycle or a temporary "rough patch". In fact, it's not a recession at all; it is a meltdown of the financial system. And it's obvious. The "deep pocketed" Federal Reserve is currently providing hundreds of billions of dollars through its auction facilities to the most craven speculators on the planet, the investment banks. These very same banks have no ability to pay that money back. Show me their revenues; show me their assets; show me their capital cushion which is calculated mainly in terms of "Level 3 assets" and which allow the banks to assign their own value to the bad paper that's overflowing from their vaults. Have you ever heard of anything more ridiculous? One blogger called Level 3 assets "mark to fantasy". He's right, too. It's all smoke and mirrors. So why are we letting crooks decide what their assets are worth? (full story) social/political / international
Serbian government grovels and acquiesces to West posted by zoran, 2008-07-24 10:17:10 Kosovo, stolen by terrorists and thieves; Albanian Kosovar war criminals acquitted while Serbs continue to be persecuted by the Hague; Montenegro to accept millions in development ‘aid’ from Italy and the West in exchange for Kosovo recognition. Compliant new Serbian government agrees to return recalled Ambassadors to EU States. Is it possible for Serbia to suffer further humiliation, shame and injury? Have Serbs finally learnt to eat shit and cower like whimpering dogs? Is SERBIA, as a sovereign nation, completely lost? (full story) imperialism / international
Intellectual elites defecting in droves posted by cleaves, 2008-07-22 21:48:58 CRIMINAL and evil cabals that have stolen government, our democracies and plunged the world into conflict and war are losing their intellectual support base at speed. It is not a matter of defecting to the ‘other side;’ it is a matter of WITHDRAWING SUPPORT FROM CRIMINAL GOVERNMENTS! Vile governments that spy on their own populations, legalise TORTURE, subvert legal process, illegally detain citizens and engage in all manner of criminal activities, including invasive warfare and mass murder, remind us of the most oppressive and despicable totalitarian regimes of the 20th century.
