LOVE is NOT a dirty word! posted by tide, 2009-08-18 14:46:16 I must END my contribution to the mix of soporific diatribes that today passes for news and information. Whether reporting is accurate or blatant propaganda, it only serves to feed drones by virtue of a medium which promotes PASSIVE consumption only! (full story) social equality/unity / international
Sovereignty or corrupt Puppet government? posted by Joseph Ellis via finn, 2009-08-17 22:24:52 From the very beginning of our national history, Americans have been arguing about the proper role of government. Put succinctly, the dispute is between those who regard government as "them" and those who see it as "us."
Our two founding documents embody the tension in its classical form. The Declaration of Independence locates sovereignty in the individual citizen, who possesses the rights of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," as Thomas Jefferson so lyrically put it, and the power of government is described as an alien force that must be put on the permanent defensive. Competence and good governance are required Mr Rudd, NOT more Laws! posted by Kingfisher, 2009-07-22 01:10:35 Faced with Real issues, Rio Tinto exec arrest, Balibo justice, water polluting Uranium/BHP mining etc, the show pony PM of Australia, Kevin ‘photo shoot’ Rudd, opts for diversion – creating more laws -- rather than addressing and dealing with problems head-on! It’s a matter of COMPETENCE, the principal quality lacking in Oz government today! (full story and 1 comments) social equality/unity / international
Gender Predispositions and Social Change posted by talya, 2009-07-04 02:36:15 I was awe-struck by a story on the Oz ABC recently – which barely got a run internationally – describing, by inference, the horrendous social obstacles women face in Afghanistan. However, in order to gain a real perspective on the subject we need to amplify those horrendous conditions ten-fold and then marvel at the remarkable bravery of one lone Afghani woman and member of a corrupt, servile, misogynistic all male Afghani Parliament. The challenges this woman faces daily are rape, assault and assassination; contrast with western domestic ‘crises’ like a faulty vacuum-cleaner or toaster! And you thought playing race card would go unnoticed! posted by sadh, 2009-05-31 21:09:37 Shame, cowardly shame on you Australia; your backward, parochial, xenophobia and racism has AGAIN made International headlines – you can truly be proud of the John Howard, Geoff Cousin’s racist revival NOW! The cost of the Cousin’s/Howard ‘race strategy’ for cheap, SHORT-TERM POLITICAL GAIN has come home to roost – and a very well deserved outcome it is! Will it affect our position in the WORLD and our relations with important regional trading partners and other Asian neighbours – YOU bloody bet it WILL! Two dead Chinese nationals killed in race attacks and bashed Indians in parochial Melbourne dictate that outcome, you mindless morons! (full story) social equality/unity / international

Enraged About Corporate Greed? Kidnap Your Boss posted by Christopher Ketcham via budgie, 2009-04-30 22:15:35 In answer to their own economic crisis, the French have taken up "bossnapping."
Here's how it works: An executive of a company, perhaps the CEO, stands before a group of his employees, puts his hands together, sighs, and then, with regret as smooth as brie, explains the fact that downsizing is needed to meet the exigencies of economic crisis (read: the preservation of profits in downturn). Indigenous Australians declare Sovereignty posted by budgie, 2009-04-24 23:34:17 Before reporting on the declaration of sovereignty by the Kaurna people, one of the tribal groups indigenous to South Australia, I would like to put this action and many other evolutionary actions occurring around the globe in the context of OUR times. Forbes “Richest:” a tragic listing of perverse values posted by budgie, 2009-03-13 20:11:13 Bill Gates, formerly of Microsoft Corp -- you remember, the producer of the world’s most unstable computer operating system -- has re-floated to the position of world’s ‘richest’ person, but I doubt the man is really ‘rich.’ (full story and 1 comments) social equality/unity / international
It’s no longer about profit: Oz shows the way! posted by barra, 2009-03-05 09:38:10 It seems that traditional Oz values, egalitarianism, mutual support, mateship and national identity are not dead after all; notwithstanding that former PM and war criminal, John ‘rodent’ Howard, did everything in his power to eradicate traditional Oz values and replace them with second-rate (now failed) American values of callous exploitation, dog eat dog competitiveness, and citizen/user pays for everything – including the ineptitudes of corporate executives, bankers and Wall St. elites! We won’t pay for your crisis! posted by Eric Walberg via fleet, 2009-03-04 07:05:48 Sarkozy’s ‘incoherence’ is a sign of the euro-impasse.
Riots swept across Eastern Europe this winter. In Latvia 100 were arrested when they attacked the Finance Ministry with cobblestones from the quaintly restored tourist area protesting unemployment, budget and wage cuts. In Lithuania, riot police fired rubber-bullets and tear gas on a trade union march. A demonstration in the Bulgarian capital turned violent leading to the arrest of 150 protesters. These three states are all members of the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM2), the euro’s pre-detention cell. They must join. (full story) social equality/unity / international
Chavez, El Suprimo! posted by quin, 2009-02-15 20:55:38 ‘Fair suck of the sav,’ Hugo; unlimited terms in office is NOT democratic, regardless of how the people were swayed to support it. Good leaders step down or defer to those more able to lead when the situation calls for it. Let’s not follow the Mugabe or Singapore dictatorship model in Venezuela, Hugo! Oz Parliament Suspended posted by fish, 2009-02-09 08:46:08 The Australian Parliament suspended normal business today to acknowledge the bushfire tragedy that continues to impact the State of Victoria. Politicians from both sides of the House expressed their sympathies for the victims. As of 11 Feb., 181 lives have been lost to the fires. Large townships have been severely impacted and some historical hamlets have been wiped out completely. Expressions of grief and sorrow gushed from Parliament House like the water pillaged from our artesian basin by BHP-Billiton! Today is a day of national reflection for more reasons than one. Not so smooth after all! posted by finch, 2009-01-20 19:32:35 The black saviour of the world, the great American orator, the ‘new transformative’ image America needs so desperately to succeed just fumbled his lines taking the Oath of Office, for Pete’s sake! Not even dunderhead ‘dubya’ fumbled those lines; sort of makes you wonder, don’t it? A portent of the future perhaps! A quick search of the net revealed this classic one-liner; "underneath the pose there's just more prose, I suppose." In a land of one-liners it makes its point! But we are not so harsh as to criticise a man, only a man, a puppet of the status quo, for exhibiting nerves on such a MOMENTOUS DAY OF FRAUD. Wake up America [real reform is so near we can taste it!] (full story and 2 comments) social equality/unity / international
