Banks Gone Wild posted by Paul Krugman vie reed, 2007-11-24 11:12:52
"What were they smoking?” asks the cover of the current issue of Fortune magazine. Underneath the headline are photos of recently deposed Wall Street titans, captioned with the staggering sums they managed to lose.

The answer, of course, is that they were high on the usual drug — greed. And they were encouraged to make socially destructive decisions by a system of executive compensation that should have been reformed after the Enron and WorldCom scandals, but wasn’t. (full story)

Open-Source Warfare posted by Robert N Charette via Kismo, 2007-11-23 21:45:18
“What we are seeing is the empowerment of the individual to conduct war,” says John Robb, a counterterrorism expert and author of the book Brave New War (John Wiley & Sons), which came out in April. While the concept of asymmetric warfare dates back at least 2000 years, to the Chinese military strategist Sun-tzu, the conflict in Iraq has redefined the nature of such struggles. As events are making painfully clear, Robb says, warfare is being transformed from a closed, state-sponsored affair to one where the means and the know-how to do battle are readily found on the Internet and at your local RadioShack. This open global access to increasingly powerful technological tools, he says, is in effect allowing “small groups to…declare war on nations.” (full story)

If Conservatism Is The Ideology of Freedom, I'm The Queen of England posted by David Michael Green via reed, 2007-11-23 09:48:11
I wish I had a nickel for every time a conservative told a lie in order to sell an ideology that would otherwise be hopelessly unappealing. But, then, what the hell would I do with ten kazillion, trillion, dollars? I wouldn't know how to spend that much loot. (full story)

The corporate selection, Howard and Rudd Corporate control confirmed by vacuous Oz election posted by Kingfisher, 2007-11-22 12:03:02
The current Australian federal election has seen the population barraged with non-substantive slogans, marketing tricks, rhetoric, negative fear campaigns and personal attacks BUT VERY LITTLE IN THE WAY OF REAL POLICIES! Neither major party has detailed policies for what promises to be a very dire future for the planet but particularly for Australia. That is the tragedy of corporate controlled Australia today; make no mistake, the two leaders vying for government have pledged their allegiance to the corporate sector above all else! (full story)

Racist, coward and war cirminal: the 'best' PM we've ever had! Today’s Colonial Australia posted by dingo, 2007-11-19 10:34:31
What a pathetic lot Aussies really are; their current war criminal leader, John Howard, typifies the national character perfectly. The former British (now American) colony continues to suffer from a colonial cringe mentality a century after declaring Federation. Someone forgot to declare a national IDENTITY at the time of federation and Aussies have suffered lackey status and inferiority ever since! (full story)

Contractionism and the fear response posted by Kingfisher, 2007-11-17 22:17:36
All mammals are susceptible to the fear response, including the dominant species, man! The fear response is characteristic of pack/herd animals and other species that exist in social groups. Clearly defined hierarchies are evident in these groups; less ‘dominant’ animals display submissive and subservient behaviours in the presence of more dominant members of the group -- and so it is with man. Absolutely Perfect Tips from the ‘Text’ posted by finch, 2007-11-12 11:55:23
The future is Asian and for very good reason. People wonder how the West was lost and which forces led to its demise, I can put it a word, PASSION, either the abundance or the lack thereof! Think of that little scrawny Indian Mahatma who seized the popular imagination by addressing Indian emotions and the passions inherent in that culture. The result was the first popular peaceful revolution in modern history – the British lost the jewel in their global imperial crown. Many other British colonies soon followed India’s example and so ended one of the world’s most successful Empires. It continues to amaze historians how a tiny island nation was able to conquer and maintain its rule over so many vast territories and diverse populations for so long. (full story)

Twat for sale: Caroline Overington, reporter for The Australian The Political Suicide of Malcolm Turnbull posted by dingo, 2007-11-12 08:04:33
The wealthy, conservative, Eastern Suburbs of Sydney should provide a very safe seat for the conservatives; however, recent polls indicate that Malcolm Turnbull, ‘future Prime Minister,’ is under siege from both the Labor candidate and independent conservatives. It seems our arrogant Environment Minister is facing a very short-lived career as a sitting member of Parliament. (full story)

War criminal and baby killer Howard seeks re-election! Frayed nerves: is it now cool to kill? posted by peptide, 2007-11-10 12:27:34
We anticipated the filter-down effect of our leadership openly flouting law, order and morality. Yes, we refer to the Iraq holocaust and the anticipated illegal or manufactured need to attack Iran. We shouldn’t forget the new American century’s torture/concentration camp of Guantanamo Bay and the many other illegal torture centres scattered around the world all run at the behest of the USA and its criminal allies. Yes siree, Bob, WE HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BY GOD TO COMMIT CRIMES – just ask any bible-bashing U.S. citizen. [And you thought Islamists were nuts!] Criminal ‘divine’ forces propel the rogue American nation to infect the world with violence, murder and MAYHEM; that is current REALITY regardless of mass complacency and denial! A Market Without Parachutes posted by Mike Whitney via rialator, 2007-11-08 20:47:02
America is finished, washed up, kaput. Foreign investors and central banks around the world have lost confidence in US markets and are headed for the exits. The dollar is sinking, the country is insolvent, and its leaders are barking mad. That’s bad for business. Investors are voting with their feet. They’ve had enough. Capital is flowing to China and the Far East in a torrent. It’s "sayonara" Manhattan and “Hello” Tiananmen Square. (full story)

It’s a fuckin’ tragic joke! posted by yarra, 2007-11-08 14:27:08
Elections Oz and campaign JOKE! Representative LEADERSHIP HAS DIED IN AUSTRALIA; today ‘democratic’ elections are pure FARCE. The field of hopefuls are carefully sifted and vetted by the powers, of the powers, for the powers prior to any election. I refer to the real powers that control this nation; TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATE POWERS DICTATE POLICY to governments regardless of which party wins farcical elections. (full story)

7 Countries Considering Abandoning the US Dollar posted by Jessica Hupp via rialator, 2007-11-07 22:30:07
It’s no secret that the dollar is on a downward spiral. Its value is dropping, and the Fed isn’t doing a whole lot to change that. As a result, a number of countries are considering a shift away from the dollar to preserve their assets. These are seven of the countries currently considering a move from the dollar, and how they’ll have an effect on its value and the US economy. (full story)

'Amazing Grace' posted by Charles Sullivan via rialator, 2007-11-06 10:43:11
It seems inexplicable that so many of the American people can be so dazed and confused, while moral degenerates ransack our nation, piss and defecate upon the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, and brazenly loot the public domain, making a mockery of the rule of law and societal norms; whatever they may be. CODEPINK and K.I.S.S. posted by finch, 2007-11-02 12:38:39
For the uninitiated or uninformed CODEPINK is a predominantly women’s anti-war, anti-Bush, life affirming, Peace movement. Their success lies in unity, innovative tactical thinking, COURAGE, strategic planning, simple image branding and dedication of the RELENTLESS variety -- the totality of which spells a formula for success! Are the many lame ideologically hamstrung, FAILED protest movements learning yet? (full story and 1 comments)
