As the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives and were on the verge of taking over the Senate, George W. Bush announced that Donald Rumsfeld was out and Robert Gates was in as Secretary of Defense. When Bush is being run out of town, he knows how to get out in the front of the crowd and make it look like he's leading the parade. The Rumsfeld-Gates swap is a classic example. (full story)

The site does not usually cater for conjecture or new-age space cadets. However, this post is worth a read if not for the ‘signal in the heavens’ – a comet or other astronomical event – then for its uncanny accuracy on present events. Validation would prove depressing in any case, as it would be too late to recover. With that said it is perhaps timely to consider the experiments done by behavioural psychologists in the recent past.
Small groups of mammals (rodents) were given a finite environment to inhabit. Initially the supplied (confined) space, fixed supply of food, water and nesting material were abundant for the small numbers. The rodents began to breed prolifically; soon the finite resources were insufficient for the exploding population of rats. Suffice to say the rats began to kill, cannibalise and otherwise lose all their normal protective social behaviour – rat mayhem ensued. The rats became totally pathological relative to their earlier behaviour. Interestingly, the outcome was total extinction not the survival of the fittest as would be expected. The surviving rat generations lost all sense and instinctive direction and continued to kill each other (as learnt). The survivors all died or were severely crippled from their wounds.
If you ever wonder why, in the face of EXPOSED criminal government, the population DOES NOT ACT – it would appear it’s programmed in the DNA, let’s just call it the ‘lemming syndrome’. The species self-destructs in order that the greater good is maintained/harmonised. This applies to ALL species – how does it feel to be a failed species? The looming climatic catastrophe is man made – POLLUTION! Better not to mention the inability of man to successfully deal with the simple equation of limited sustainability.

A couple of months ago our Pit Stop Ploughshares community was acquitted of $US2.5million damage to a U.S. war plane at Shannon Airport, Ireland. I'm presently heading to Alice Springs to support the Pine Gap resisters.
In December '05, six anti-war activist friends made the 3,000 km long trek through the Austalian Outback to the secret Pine Gap NSA Base near Alice Springs in the Northern Terrirory. They transported themselves in a van converted to run on recyled fish and chip oil. They had written to a number outback fish and chip shops and asked them to save them their used oil, some did! To a large extent, the war on terror is a shabby promotional scheme designed to mobilize the nation for a permanent state of war while curtailing civil liberties. There’s nothing original in this analysis, but it does explain the importance of media as a vehicle for Bush’s public relations campaign. On Saturday night, I was lucky enough to be at the Veterans for Peace National Convention. For that night, Lt. Ehren Watada was able to give the following speech, which I've just received permission to post here. The speech was met with a powerful, standing ovation from the vets who've been there.
Lt. Ehren Watada, for those who don't already know, became the first commissioned officer to publicly refuse deployment to the unlawful war and occupation in Iraq. While doing this on June 22, 2006, Watada said, "As the order to take part in an illegal act is ultimately unlawful as well, I must refuse that order."
Just as Watada took the stage and began to speak, over 50 members of Iraq Veterans Against the War filed in behind him. Watada, surprised by this and obviously taken aback by the symbolic act, turned back to the audience, took some deep breaths, then gave this speech: (full story)
