The Impending Global Liquidity Crisis posted by Mike Whitney via rialator, 2007-06-05 22:31:01 Stock markets across the world have been skyrocketing lately. In fact, Forbes reported on Tuesday that: “all 22 of the developed-world markets tracked by Morgan Stanley Capital International are in positive territory year-to-date. …Emerging markets are looking just as flush. Of the 29 emerging market countries that MSCI tracks, only four--Argentina, Sri Lanka, Russia and Venezuela--are in negative territory.” (full story) miscellaneous / international
The Hypocrisy of Religion: Catholic Cardinal threatens State Politicians posted by Kingfisher, 2007-06-05 15:25:24 SYDNEY -- A comment by Catholic Archbishop George Pell directed at Catholic Premier, Morris Iemma and other Catholic politicians, is clearly an attempt by the church to interfere with matters of State. Is this a case of an insular Cardinal pining for the good ol’ days when the Holy Roman Empire ruled Europe with a corrupt iron cross or is it a case of blatant religious hypocrisy? Perhaps the Cardinal’s comments relating to stem cell issues constitute a clear case of criminal blackmail – legal advocates may find a prime target in Cardinal Pell. A legal action could be interpreted as the State clearly delineating a distinction between matters of church and matters of State – Cardinals may discover they can’t have their cake and eat it with impunity! Missile Tests Underscore Moscow's Desire to Maintain Nuclear Deterrent posted by Richard Weitz via rialator, 2007-06-04 11:05:42 On May 29, the Russian government very ostentatiously tested two different ballistic missiles, designated the RS-24 and R-500. The Russian media characterized both systems as new versions of existing missiles, modified to penetrate U.S. ballistic missile defenses (BMD) more effectively. First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, the former fefense minster, claimed that "these systems can beat any operational and future missile defenses." Guantanamo war crimes trials screech to halt posted by Jane Sutton via rialator, 2007-06-04 10:44:07 GUANTANAMO BAY U.S. NAVAL BASE, Cuba (Reuters) - U.S. military judges dropped all war crimes charges on Monday against the only two Guantanamo captives facing trial, rulings that could preclude trying any of the 380 prisoners held at the U.S. base in Cuba any time soon. Training Tips for Uber Warriors posted by nano, 2007-06-03 13:17:01 The physical and mental well being of the Uber Warrior (UW) is of the utmost importance. With the heightened senses that a clear mind and supple body provide, the UW easily defeats the mentally and physically constipated, amphetamine soaked, technologically dependent, soldiers of the west. Not generally known is the damage the U.S. military inflicts on its own troops – burnout and paranoid psychosis result from inappropriate training methods and dangerous chemical ‘combat enhancers’, dextroamphetamine, etc. The strength of the UW resides principally in his/her consciousness, which in turn resides in a toxin free vital body.
The primary weapons of the UW are therefore the mind and body – with these two well-honed weapons he easily overcomes the enemy and reigns supreme. The following routines have been tested and proven over centuries, they remain at the pinnacle of psychophysical culture. (full story and 2 comments) peace/war / international
Terrorism Defined: George Orwell and the power of language posted by Stephen Lendman via rialator, 2007-06-02 11:32:40 Probably no word better defines or underscores the Bush presidency than "terrorism" even though his administration wasn't the first to exploit this highly charged term. We use to explain what "they do to us" to justify what we "do to them," or plan to, always deceitfully couched in terms of humanitarian intervention, promoting democracy, or bringing other people the benefits of western civilization Gandhi thought would be a good idea when asked once what he thought about it. At what cost: the loss of integrity? posted by fish, 2007-05-31 18:20:49 A view from the outside is far more revealing than the myopia offered from within. We are all apt to overlook the elephant for its trunk or ears when we are drawn too near a subject/object. In such a distorted world, teacup ‘storms’ appear as hurricanes. The loss of perspective is a precursor to the loss of FREEDOM; as the scope narrows, so our consciousness. Few in Oz seem to be aware that the opposition Labor party no longer has an ideological platform; the values of the traditional Australian Labor Party have been jettisoned for short-term gain, opportunism and expediency! Balibo, 32 years of Australian Cowardice posted by peptide, 2007-05-29 22:00:47 The infamous Balibo murders perfectly illustrate Australian cowardice and Indonesian barbarity. It should be stated from the outset that the truth of the cold-blooded murder of the Balibo five has been known since the day of the crime in 1975. The cringing attitude displayed by successive Australian governments toward the barbaric Indonesians has made Australia a laughing stock in Asia. All successive Labor and Liberal governments that perpetuated the lie of a tragic accident (caught in a cross-fire) are guilty of criminal suppression of the truth and criminal collusion with the murderers -- grubby oil deals notwithstanding. Whale slaughter in Southern Oceans posted by moby, 2007-05-28 09:08:25 Why is a Northern Hemisphere nation, JAPAN, permitted to flagrantly slaughter whales in Southern Hemisphere waters? Perhaps widespread inaction in the face of blatant Japanese smugness, arrogance, contempt for the environment, the International Whaling Commission and other nations is related to the world’s toleration of criminal wars resulting in hundreds of thousands of innocent human casualties! What chance do whales have if innocent HUMAN BEINGS are treated as expendable? (full story) social/political / international
Bio-electromagnetic Weapons: The ultimate weapon posted by ISIS Press Release via rialator, 2007-05-27 22:03:38 Electromagnetic weapons operate at the speed of light; they can kill, torture and enslave; but the public are largely unaware that they exist, because these weapons operate by stealth and leave no physical evidence. Electromagnetic weapons have been tested on human beings since 1976. By widely dispersing the involuntary human test-subjects, and vehemently attacking their credibility, it has been possible for the United States to proceed with these human experiments unhindered by discussions or criticisms, let alone opposition.
This ultimate weapon system is currently being deployed in Iraq. The US Air Force and the Marine Corps refer to it as “active denial technology”, as if it were used purely for defense, but it is not: (full story) peace/war / international
Soft drink additive damages DNA: report posted by staff report via colonel cola, 2007-05-27 10:08:20 The singularly profit driven Corporations have lied and lied regarding food additives, tobacco and climate changing pollutants. They only respond to VERY LARGE financial disincentives. A drive to sign up whole populations for a class action against these polluters is a great start for future mental and physical health.
This action may also reveal the combination of additives in foods and the water supply that impairs the human will. Never before in human history have entire populations become so subservient, helpless and passive in the most alarming circumstances. The apathy and complacency witnessed today in the face of horrendous illegal wars, pollution induced climate change/GLOBAL warming, to name the two most catastrophic events, is beyond comprehension.
Hit them hard and hit them in the pocket, the "class" of the action should include the entire population -- you and your children have been poisoned! (full story) health related / international
Bush pre-empts Al-Sadr’s Return posted by barra, 2007-05-25 11:56:48 Shia leader Muqtada al-Sadr re-appears just two days after Bush’s statement to the American media that next month (we assume June) will be a critical period in the ongoing travesty that is the Iraq occupation. Bush may have finally received some accurate information regarding al-Sadr’s plans to unite with Sunni leaders and hopefully form a unified and powerful front against invading and occupying forces. Uber Warrior posted by nano, 2007-05-24 16:53:54 New Uber warfare strategies of the 21st century have relegated conventional war and to a lesser extent guerilla war strategies to history. Today’s ubiquitous and highly accessible computer technologies have redefined warfare. Traditional militaries are facing redundancy, irrelevance and heightened vulnerability to skilled digital operators. The keyboard is proving to be the most effective weapon of the modern age! Uber war is asymmetry taken to its final phase. In theory a single individual is now capable of subverting a State! The digital age has resulted in a universal dependence on digital technology. The most powerful military powers are now exposed to (persistent) direct and indirect digital attacks – it is only a matter of time before a skilled digital warrior succeeds in compromising the defence capability of a superpower.
