I have lost count of the (too) numerous times Bush and senior members of his criminal government have been exposed for gross deceptions and criminal pursuits. If a HOLOCAUST in progress and an ECONOMIC MELT-DOWN AT HOME doesn’t rouse the people what would former press secretary, Scott McClellan, hope to achieve with his revelations? Less than a week prior to McClellan’s revelations, news of the loss/misappropriation of $15 BILLION in Iraq roused only a few yawns from the American population -- 'good luck' with book sales, Scott! Remember the ‘new sweeping terrorist laws’ the previous conservative Howard government instituted? New draconian laws the current (useless) Rudd government is happy to leave in place. The conservatives felt obliged to emulate America and introduce police state laws though the nation had not suffered any direct terrorist attacks. Civil liberties groups and other concerned citizens protested vehemently regarding intrusions on personal liberties, privacy, and the new draconian/intrusive powers accorded law enforcement agencies, which could easily be abused! Ah yes, those torture confessions have proved so useful. That, at least, was the claim of our president in justifying one of the most egregious assaults ever on this nation’s commitment to the rule of law. But now comes news that charges have been dropped against the so-called Sept. 11 attacks’ 20th hijacker, one of dozens so identified, because the “evidence” he supplied under torture and later recanted is not credible enough to go to trial. And yet, ABC News reported last week that senior Bush administration officials were privy to such presentations in the Situation Room as they discussed and approved the brutal treatment (such as waterboarding) of terror suspects. There has been a lot of laughter at Russia’s expense in the offices of State in many Western nations lately, but particularly in the USA. Where is Russia, what of all the threats in support of its traditional ally Serbia, over the Kosovo secession? The Russian bear proved to be toothless and clawless; Russia's failure to back its talk with actions has earned it ridicule from the entire international community; the laughter from the West can be heard all the way to the Kremlin – Russia’s credibility is less than zero at the moment. Gen. Ante Gotovina, working closely with American advisers, was the commander of a military campaign in the summer of 1995 that put an end to the Serbian occupation of Eastern Croatia and forced more than 150,000 Serbs to flee towns and villages where they had lived for generations.
