The Life and Times of the 'Agency' posted by Chalmers Johnson via reed, 2007-07-25 18:43:04 The American people may not know it but they have some severe problems with one of their official governmental entities, the Central Intelligence Agency. Because of the almost total secrecy surrounding its activities and the lack of cost accounting on how it spends the money covertly appropriated for it within the defense budget, it is impossible for citizens to know what the CIA's approximately 17,000 employees do with, or for, their share of the yearly $44 billion-$48 billion or more spent on "intelligence." This inability to account for anything at the CIA is, however, only one problem with the Agency and hardly the most serious one either. (full story) imperialism / international
U.S. led Destruction of Yugoslavia Continues posted by rade, 2007-07-23 12:54:15 Following NATO’s support of KLA terrorist separatists and Bush’s promise to support secessionist moves by Albanians living in the Serbian province of Kosovo, Condoleezza ‘war whore’ Rice, today “assured” leading separatists the U.S. is “committed” to Kosovo's independence “within months” regardless of UN Security Council decisions! Isn’t that just typical? We are all reminded of America ignoring accurate UN reports that WMD did NOT exist in pre-invasion Iraq but America, in usual rustic fashion, invaded anyway and created the world’s worst humanitarian tragedy since WWII -- innocent civilian casualties are fast approaching one million! The ‘Lone Wolf’ terrorist and a ‘Little Red’ faced absurdity posted by dingo, 2007-07-11 02:09:05 There comes a time when beat-ups, orchestrated lies, fabrications and plain incompetence converge to form the most ludicrous proposition imaginable. We recall the Saddam connection to Bin Laden, fantasy WMD, mobile anthrax labs, bouquets of flowers and open armed welcomes for invaders, breaking the back of the insurgency, mission accomplished, the inane poetry of Rumsfeld and various other mutterings from the loony tunes brigade OF CRIMINAL MASS MURDERERS. However, it seems the best is yet to come; the local chapter of the lobotomy squad, masquerading as an anti-terrorist force in Sydney has invented a new category of terrorist – the “lone wolf.” (full story) imperialism / national
U.S. and NATO forces kill more civilians than Taliban posted by Laura King via rialator, 2007-07-06 14:23:50 KABUL, AFGHANISTAN — After more than five years of increasingly intense warfare, the conflict in Afghanistan reached a grim milestone in the first half of this year: U.S. troops and their NATO allies killed more civilians than insurgents did, according to several independent tallies. The upsurge in deaths at the hands of Western forces has been driven by Taliban tactics as well as by actions of the American military and its allies. (full story) imperialism / international
Criminal Empire: we own the Law posted by ninemsn via yarra, 2007-07-02 09:04:46 [Few would be surprised by the latest news of Bush commuting Libby's sentence. But it does serve to remind the American people what a bunch of submissive shit eaters they really are. What a perfect travesty! Ed.] (full story and 1 comments) imperialism / international
Building a Justification for Waging War on Iran? posted by Prof. Michel Chossudovsky via rialator, 2007-06-24 11:00:03 "Another [9/11 type terrorist] attack could create both a justification and an opportunity that is lacking today to retaliate against some known targets" (Statement by Pentagon official, leaked to the Washington Post, 23 April 2006) (full story) imperialism / international
Neo-cons Spinning Hearts and Minds posted by Khody Akhavi via rialator, 2007-06-24 10:26:19 WASHINGTON, Jun 24 (IPS) - As the George W. Bush administration struggles through its last two years in office, it appears that the agenda of neoconservative ideologues has finally lost its appeal among strategic parts of the U.S. foreign policy apparatus. The CIA and Fatah posted by Mike Whitney via rialator, 2007-06-21 10:20:48 "When Hamas gunmen stormed the Fatah security compounds in Gaza last week they found huge supplies of American-made weaponry including 7,400 M-16 assault rifles, dozens of mounted machine guns, rocket launchers, 7 armored military jeeps, 800,000 rounds of bullets and 18 US-made armored personnel carriers. They also discovered something far more valuable--- CIA files which purportedly contain "information about the collaboration between Fatah and the Israeli and American security organizations; CIA methods on how to prevent attacks, chase and follow after cells of Hamas and the Committees; plans about Fatah assassinations of members of Hamas and other organizations; and American studies on the security situation in Gaza." Unravelling posted by gan, 2007-06-18 22:19:57 As the wall approaches, or rather as we speed recklessly toward it, it serves no purpose to analyse how a nation, trillions of dollars in debt, remains in a position to offer billions to its enemies and try and buy its way out of inevitable collapse. The buy-off strategy is not new, what is new however is that the offers have been rejected – no amount of money could buy Kosovo from Serbia, what are a people without a heart or national identity? Condi Rice, with Israel’s whole-hearted support, today openly offered to buy-off Palestinians in the vain hope that western influence could be maintained in the region. For numerous reasons this strategy will also fail. (full story and 1 comments) imperialism / international

Al-Qaeda’s Waiting Game posted by Michael Scheuer via rialator, 2007-05-20 20:36:02 Americans tend to forget that while we were surprised by the 9/11 attacks, al-Qaeda was not. The attacks’ exact date was known to bin Laden and two or three others only six days before Sept. 11, 2001, but they had long known the attacks were coming. Thus al-Qaeda was able to move important operatives, archives, material, and other assets out of Afghanistan in advance. (full story and 1 comments) imperialism / international
The Art of Flower Arranging posted by gan, 2007-05-17 18:31:22 The uninformed are rejoicing over the forced resignation of Paul (bouquet of flowers) Wolfowitz from the World (US) Bank; the resignation of Tony (45 minutes) Blair as British prime minister; the foregone demise of George (WMD, mission accomplished) Bush and the likely elimination of John (aluminium tubing) Howard as Australian prime minister. However, rejoicing may be premature as the gangrenous infection in the body of humanity has not been completely excised. (full story) imperialism / international
