The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) was originally utilised by WWII US president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, to dismantle the British Empire – Churchill was forced to sign the empire away in exchange for American assistance in the war. So began, with considerable help from Lend-Lease, the ascendancy of the USA in world affairs. Debate among historians over whether or not Roosevelt intentionally sought to subvert Britain’s power/wealth base continues today; however, most agree that FDR detested imperialism and quite intentionally sought to dismantle (and displace) the British Empire. Right on cue gentlemen! Either in response to the previous article [see link] or as a result of very bad media management, the Australian authorities have urged President Ramos-Horta to conduct another (managed) interview and lay the blame of his attempted assassination clearly on rebel leader, Afredo Reindo and his “hateful” female lawyer! But it’s a damn shame the accusation is pure conjecture or worse the result of coercion. (full story)

An Australian current affairs program, ‘Lateline,’ featured an interview with the convalescing President of Timor-Leste last night. However, very little in the way of new information was forthcoming. Either the President, Jose Ramos-Horta, was intentionally withholding information or he has little new knowledge to offer regarding the attempt on his life. (full story)

Richard Holbrooke, former US ambassador to the UN and broker of the 1995 Dayton 'peace' agreement that ‘ended’ the war in Bosnia, recently stated that the upcoming elections in Serbia would be crucial for the Serbian people -- no argument from Serbs on that point! However, his comments veiled his/America's real concerns for America’s future ‘tenure’ in the region. Daniel Fried, the US assistant secretary of state for European affairs, is definitely an American and has the ‘intellectual ability’ to prove it. Addressing the press in the Serbian province of Kosovo, Fried said, “[Kosovo] independence is a fact. This is a reality. History is only going to move forward!" [My emphasis]
Temporal, philosophical, historical and general intellectual incompetence aside for the moment; Fried’s staggeringly stupid comment clearly exhibits the agitation experienced in Washington over the mess it has created in the Balkans! (full story and 2 comments)

No more do we hear from the 'brave' Albanian ‘leader,’ Thaci, making declarations that HE will defend every “inch” of Kosovo – apparently he has retreated to the protection of Madeleine Albright’s skirt. In evaluating the recent "declaration of independence" by Kosovo, a province of Serbia, and its immediate recognition as a state by the U.S., Germany, Britain and France, it is important to know three things.
First, Kosovo is not gaining independence or even minimal self-government. It will be run by an appointed High Representative and bodies appointed by the U.S., European Union and NATO. An old-style colonial viceroy and imperialist administrators will have control over foreign and domestic policy. U.S. Imperialism has merely consolidated its direct control of a totally dependent colony in the heart of the Balkans. (full story)

Gone are the days of real Australian leaders; only a few decades past Australian leaders threatened to close the American installation at Pine Gap because the Americans refused to share information or allow access to the site. The very colourful raid on ASIO ordered by the Whitlam government due to the reluctance of ASIO bureaucrats to supply information to the democratically elected Prime Minister is another memorable event. Even that miserable little Zionist, Bob Hawke, stated at the time of an official visit to Washington that Australia, though an ally and friend has its OWN OPINION and VIEW and that views of the respective nations were likely to differ radically at times – WHATEVER HAPPENED TO AUSTRALIA AND INDEPENDENT LEADERSHIP?
