In an attempt to smear his rival Barack Obama, John McCain referred to a flimsy connection between Obama and Bill Ayers, a founding member of the weather underground. McCain’s now infamous quote given in a television interview was mentioned in a NYT article this week (link below): “How can you countenance someone [Ayers] who was engaged in bombings that could have or did kill innocent people?” Good point, John! German Chancellor, Agela ‘uber alles’ Merkel, responded to Russian President Medvedev’s pragmatism and realism with double standards and hypocrisy during talks in St Petersburg this week. Medvedev stated fact in relation to the demise of the USA as economic superpower and serious force in the region. Merkel, fully cognisant of the pipeline corridor/energy wars raging at present, responded with criticism of Russia’s actions in Georgia. She accused Russia of a “disproportionate” response to the unprovoked western-backed attack on innocent civilians in South Ossetia! Merkel may have been thinking of Germany’s clandestine role in the ILLEGAL secession of Kosovo when she added that Georgia's ‘territorial integrity’ "is non-negotiable!" (full story)

Events relating to the questionable competence and integrity of Bankers, Financiers, Corporate CEOs and the muted reaction of the American public this week are astounding to say the least. Only a few weeks ago President George ‘Milton’ Bush and Republican presidential candidate, John ‘bomb bomb’ McCain, were extolling the virtues of the American economy and the free market system; both men constantly repeated a mantra claiming the American economy is “fundamentally strong!” However, in a matter of DAYS the ‘strong’ economy SUDDENLY became the ‘dire crisis’ economy; it is now beyond any argument that our current batch of politicians are clueless -- what day is it, gentlemen? It seems ‘polly’ is required to parrot new lines for her cracker this week! (full story)

To say the market was surprised by the House’s rejection of the ‘bailout’ proposal on Monday would be putting it mildly; however, BIG Finance and BIG Banking were NOT surprised one bit! Even more surprising was the fact that Republicans (GOP) were largely responsible for the rejection of the Bill! You know them, ‘God is the free market!’ One could become a cynic overnight faced with such inversions and ideological backflips; however, a careful approach and focused eye reveals much. Recent events in the USA relating to the economic meltdown highlight the old cliché, ‘only in America’ … is the population so subservient, passive, afraid and compliant that it accepts flagrant corruption and racketeering from the financial, banking and business sectors. It is not enough that fat cats wreak havoc on the quality of (American) life -- the clueless, puppet government on orders from the ruling private sector expect the overburdened American public to shoulder the entire responsibility for bailing out the Robber Barons who have destroyed the economy. All of those tasks are now the responsibility of private military corporations.
