Peter Costello or a REAL alternative posted by barra, 2008-06-15 23:03:08
Australian government since former PM John Howard surrendered the nation to the Corporations is only a meaningless body going through motions and parading as though government actually mattered. The current Murdoch approved Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, constrained by the Corporations, is too frightened to force them to return a fair percentage of their obscene profits to the nation for essential infrastructure and other essential services. The primary concern of all government should be the general welfare of the nation, not the welfare of Transnationals that take their profits offshore! (full story)

Che Guevara A Meeting With Che Guevara posted by Gajendra Singh via reed, 2008-06-14 10:50:59
Che Guevara;"an inspiration for every human being who loves freedom" -- Nelson Mandela.

Che Guevara is "not only an intellectual but also the most complete human being of our age" -- Jean-Paul Sartre.

"The first thing to note is that in my son's veins flowed the blood of the Irish rebels, the Spanish conquistadors and the Argentinean patriots. Evidently Che inherited some of the features of our restless ancestors. There was something in his nature, which drew him to distant wanderings, dangerous adventures and new ideas. -- Ernesto Guevara Lynch, Che's Father (full story)

Draconian measures to protect 'copyright' posted by Graeme Philipson via reed, 2008-06-11 19:29:30
THE forces of reaction are fighting back. As they often do, they are carrying out their planning in secret, in the knowledge that if more people knew of their activities they would not be allowed to get away with it. The US (surprise, surprise) has circulated a draft "Discussion Paper on a Possible Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement" (ACTA) for the next G8 meeting, in Tokyo in July. The full text of the document has been published on Wikileaks (wikileaks.org). (full story and 1 comments)

There is only one Australian politician that presents a more pathetic figure on the international stage than Foreign Minister Stephen ‘kneepads’ Smith, and that is our new pipsqueak PM, Kevin ‘bereft’ Rudd! (full story and 3 comments)

The [American] Empire -- A Status Report posted by William Blum via fleet, 2008-06-07 22:18:34
The events of recent years indicate that the world is wising up to and becoming less intimidated by Washington's overarching ambition for world dominance. Latin America is increasingly attempting to escape the empire's clutches. Leaders keenly aware of how US imperialism works and determined to keep it out of their own country are in power in Venezuela, Uruguay, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, and perhaps the latest addition, Paraguay. Goodbye Presidency: Obama caves-in to Jewish lobby posted by barra, 2008-06-05 21:26:16
Barack Obama just lost the race for the Presidency. At an address to AIPAC, probably the most powerful UNREPRESENTATIVE lobby in the USA, Obama caved to the wishes of the Zionists by pledging almost unconditional support for Israel and going so far as to state publicly that Jerusalem, claimed by two peoples, would remain the undivided capital of Zionist Israel. Bernanke's Speech: "It's all China's fault!" posted by Mike Whitney via rialator, 2008-06-04 22:58:45
He's at it again. Bernanke, that is. Yesterday the Fed chief delivered a rambling 45 minute speech at the International Monetary Conference in Barcelona, laying out all the reasons why the Federal Reserve is NOT responsible for the present crisis in the financial markets. Here's what he said: (full story)

John Howard charged with war crimes posted by nano, 2008-06-01 21:57:10
ABC news radio today reported that a group of Australian citizens, inclusive of academics, lawyers and other professionals, lodged a submission to the ICC to have former PM, John Howard, charged with war crimes for his participation in the illegal invasion of Iraq. Howard with cohorts Bush and Blair, formed the so-called ‘coalition of the willing;’ a rogue alliance that acted against the correct advice of the UN and in violation of numerous international conventions relating to pre-emptive warfare. Rudd’s avoidance of major issues hits new high! posted by junior, 2008-06-01 02:26:08
Kevin Rudd’s now pathological avoidance of the major issues facing Australia has hit a new, if not absurd, high! Facing the wholesale rape of our nation’s natural resources by Transnational mining companies; the worst drought on record; rapidly escalating fuel costs; the failure of free-market capitalism and a geopolitically, inappropriate relationship with a failing superpower, what is Rudd’s response? He ‘tackles’ the earth-shattering crisis of childhood obesity and launches an attack on a world renowned Australian Artist! But we should all be grateful for small mercies; the upside is he hasn't declared war on ingrown toenails! (full story and 1 comments)

The Corporate State and the Subversion of Democracy posted by Chris Hedges via rialator, 2008-05-31 21:07:57
Chris Hedges gave this keynote address on Wednesday, May 28, in Furman University’s Younts Conference Center.

When it was announced in May that President Bush would deliver the commencement address, 222 students and faculty signed and posted on the school’s Web site a statement titled “We Object.” The statement cites the war in Iraq and the administration’s “obstructing progress on reducing greenhouse gases while favoring billions in tax breaks and subsidies to oil companies that are earning record profits.”

“We are ashamed of the actions of this administration. The war in Iraq has cost the lives of over 4,000 brave and honorable U.S. military personnel,” the statement read. “Because we love this country and the ideals it stands for, we accept our civic responsibility to speak out against these actions that violate American values.” (full story)

Bill Henson in his studio The ‘Art’ of Distraction posted by barra, 2008-05-30 22:33:35
There is something not quite right about the current hysteria surrounding the work of internationally acclaimed Australian artist, Bill Henson. The speed at which police became involved in Henson’s latest exhibition and the dense, but leading comments made by high ranking politicians regarding some of the works may indicate that ‘things are not what they appear to be!’ (full story and 2 comments)

European Union runs into roadblocks in its plans for Kosovo posted by Economist via reed, 2008-05-30 09:07:41
WHEN the Austro-Hungarian empire declared war on Serbia in July 1914, few could have imagined that the result would be the demise not only of the Habsburg empire, but also of the Russian and Ottoman ones. Nobody believes that Serbia's challenge to the European Union over Kosovo will be anything like as dramatic; most Serbs want to join the EU, not destroy it. Yet 100 days after Kosovo declared independence, Serbia has done a lot better than anybody expected in thwarting the EU's plans for it. (full story)

Wrongly hanged man Australia, for all the wrong reasons posted by yarra, 2008-05-27 10:38:01
Australia is making international headlines for all the wrong reasons again; Aussies seem to have a penchant for eating their boots. Located in the South Pacific under the rest of the world probably accounts for the difficulty Aussies have adjusting to diverse, cosmopolitan populations. (full story)

The Unified Majority of Nations posted by peptide, 2008-05-26 23:30:50
Russia and China have broadened their existing military alliance to include greater economic cooperation and support. Together with the developing nations of Africa, the Pacific, Latin America and Asia the new ‘Eastern’ alliance will form the most powerful economic bloc the world has ever known – that is progressive thinking and is worth contrasting to the violent contractionist approach of America and its allies.
