The navel-gazing Anglicans of Oz posted by fish, 2007-09-27 13:09:17 All the great religious reformers of history are known for taking religion to the streets, as is occurring in Burma today. Taking their cue or lead from their founders some believers display the bravery and fearlessness required to meet life’s challenges today! The Buddha and Christ were men of social REVOLUTION, who, when faced with corruption and injustice, launched peaceful attacks on the ruling elites of their time and effected lasting social change as is evident thousands of years after their initial campaigns. Conservatism and anal retention posted by fish, 2007-08-11 14:06:41 Conservatives throughout the world are only distinguished by the ‘colour of their shirts.’ Islamist contractionism pursues (fascist) central control in the form of a Caliphate. American contractionism is pursuing (totalitarianism) surveillance and the reduction of liberties and freedoms at speed. Here in Oz the minister for communications is attempting to implement information controls in the form of filtering Internet material at backbone or ISP level. Regardless of the area of ‘concern’ ALL conservatives SEEK TO GAIN CONTROL and impose their realities onto everyone! The means vary from theocratic coercion, legal subversions to brutal enforcement and violent implementations, whether the rest of us like it or not. No shortage of anal contractionists exists anywhere in the world today – the amusing thing is watching the same sickness manifest in various cultural forms. Ann Coulter - Typical American Christian posted by Nick Paccione via rialator, 2007-07-07 23:29:03 In 2006 Ann Coulter said "... Christianity fuels everything I write. Being a Christian means that I am called upon to do battle against lies, injustice, cruelty, hypocrisy -- you know, all the virtues in the church of liberalism." (full story) theology / international
The nature of God – and I ought to Know! posted by major mitchell, 2007-05-08 14:36:03 [No apologies for the title, as it applies to everyone.] In today’s world far too many killers and murderers are utilising religion as a method of social manipulation, control and (believe it if you would face the reality of your ‘religion’) to JUSTIFY MURDER, THEFT and WAR! If that in itself doesn’t sound an alarm in the heads of all devotees of the ONE nameless, peerless, INFINITE God of ALL, then please go for a walk or entertain yourself with something else, this paper is NOT for you! The Apostles of Deception posted by Charles Sullivan via rialator, 2007-04-14 13:32:36 What passes for Christianity among the people, like so many things American, is not the genuine article. The sermons that rise from many of the pulpits of the churches of America are, I suspect, as counterfeit as a six-dollar bill; as phoney as the people running the country. But those whose faith is blind are incapable of seeing truth. That is the trouble with blind faith. It does not, it cannot, see. I have always been wary of organised religion. Atheist Richard Dawkins on 'The God Delusion' posted by Terrence McNally via rialator, 2007-01-24 19:50:05 In the last few years, Americans have seen the dark side of religion. The events of 9/11 brought home the extremes to which some radical Muslims would go to defeat infidels and attain virgins. At home, we've seen assaults on the separation of Church and State and attacks on the teaching of evolution and the distribution of life-saving condoms. And now, it appears the godless are fighting back. (full story) theology / international
Inanity for Xmas posted by finch, 2006-12-24 08:48:10 The arch-conservative Anglican Dean of Sydney's St. Andrews Cathedral, Phil Jensen, has delivered a Christmas message worthy of the most mindless, inane comment that the infamous neo-con war monger and lunatic Donald “unknown knowns” Rumsfeld could have delivered. The Dean stated that “Christmas is about God giving, that God gave the gift of God and the gift of God, is God," (!) Those Australians who imagined that mindless, unqualified statements only issued from American neo-cons be advised, conservative pro-American Evangelicals are alive and very ‘unwell’ in conservative Anglican Sydney. The Plague of Evangelicalism: An Aberrant Sect from the USA posted by fish, 2006-04-07 06:11:22 The very American travelling circus that was tent religion matured and found expression in the mass ‘conversions’ (come on down and be saved style) of Billy Graham, demagogue and showman, the forerunner of today’s Evangelicals. Plastic religion for a plastic society, Graham invented ‘Kentucky fried religion’, a fast consumable product that was accessible to the masses, requiring nothing but gleefully running to the stage and in spectacular fashion being ‘saved’ by Billy or one of his many imitators. Modern Evangelicalism was born, long arduous hours of meditation and prayer in the pursuit of Deity became a thing of the medieval past. (full story) theology / international
Religion as Social Liability posted by finch, 2006-02-02 13:48:05 The recent religious furore over certain (cartoon) publications in the secular press unambiguously identifies ‘religion’ as little more than cheap politics; or put in simpler more accurate terms; religion is the politics of the mentally deficient. Consider the possibility of an infinite creator/God and the arrogance of those who actually think or imagine they or any other finite being could possibly pollute, insult or deface that God. A characteristic of Godhead is IMMUTABILITY! Rationalists would refer to the basic logic of the inability of the finite to apprehend the infinite (God); the two states are mutually exclusive. But it is obvious that ‘God’ is as far removed from the present issue as day is from night. (full story and 1 comments) theology / international
Commentary on John 14 posted by fish, 2005-10-17 06:11:23 An appropriate sub-heading to probably the most important chapter in the Gospel of John (if not the whole New Testament). The Christian saviour declares himself to be the absolute God and also the means by which we come to the realisation and presence of that God. The above claim was/is as bold a claim as was ever made by a sane man, notwithstanding some of Jesus’ immediate family members thought him to be of questionable mental stability (at that time). Nevertheless, this commentary will be based on the text and the simple 2+2 logic that is accessible to a child but evades the apprehension of linear, biased, fanatic and frightened thinkers. Commentary on John 13. posted by fish, 2005-10-17 04:41:11 Chapter 13 of the Gospel of John is an indictment of mainstream Christianity. It becomes evident that the churches and other popular Christian groups represent institutional or organised hypocrisy. None stand as an example of the Master's teachings.
This is not a selective attack on the hypocrisy of one mainstream religion – with the possible exception of Buddhism – they are ALL perverse. (full story) theology / international
What's wrong with the world? posted by Kel Richards, 2005-08-15 05:24:05 The one thing that is clear from glancing through this book is that there is something dreadfully wrong with this world we live in. But that’s the big question: WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE WORLD?
Why is the world the way it is? Why is there so much evil, wickedness, hurt and suffering? The Bible gives this answer, “everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 2:21, New International Version). That is the Bible’s key to understanding what’s wrong with the world. Jesus made it perfectly clear how we are meant to behave, he didn’t leave it to guesswork, or for us to work out for ourselves, and he didn’t make it obscure or difficult to understand.

Symbolism in the Gospel of Mark posted by fish, 2005-08-08 07:10:11 Christian theologians throughout history have failed to understand the significance of the (odd) appearance of the naked youth in the Gospel of Mark. The obvious reason for this failure, according to NT doctrine, is their unbelief and inability to commune with their own God of Truth (Jesus Christ) and receive insights. It is not the failure of the Master’s message; it is the lack of understanding and faith in his promises that inhibits the perceptive faculties. (full story) theology / international
