It seems that recent anti-war protests in Washington were also host to some strange little ‘bugs’ seen by protesters and other independent observers to be flying in formation and manoeuvring in unison above the protesters! We can confidently rule out real insect activity as real insects do not fly or manoeuvre in tight formation, if indeed strange flying machines were actually seen! Hitler cited the slaughter of over one million Armenians by the Ottoman Turks as the example. Statistics and figures are sterile indicators; it is blood that most effectively conveys reality for human beings. Who gives a shit if over one million innocent civilians have lost their lives in Iraq if we can’t see it or feel it? Stats and figures are emotively denuded and Iraq is a very distant land? Well, today the slaughter of innocents in Iraq has been served up on Oz breakfast tables. An Australian owned security firm has murdered two Iraqi Christian women for failing to heed warnings to stop their vehicle. It should be noted the IRAQI women frequently utilised this IRAQI road and complied with IRAQI law. Do foreigners have a right to roam wherever they please and determine who should live or die? Is this the ‘liberation’ of Iraq that John Howard sells to the Oz public or is this the stark reality of a nation reduced by coalition forces to a state wherein mercenaries, cowboys, thieves and murderers determine who should live or die? The outstanding feature of economic rationalism and laissez-faire capitalism is the LACK of an IDEAL, in other words to what end do WE SUPPORT these rapacious, voracious and highly polluting economic ideologies? What is the ideal of economically based systems and what is the cost? The answer to the first question is a negative – no ideal exists – the process itself substitutes for the ideal and that is a very dangerous situation. The ‘God’ of laissez-faire capitalists and economic rationalists is the rampant process of consumption itself! Taking their cue or lead from their founders some believers display the bravery and fearlessness required to meet life’s challenges today! The Buddha and Christ were men of social REVOLUTION, who, when faced with corruption and injustice, launched peaceful attacks on the ruling elites of their time and effected lasting social change as is evident thousands of years after their initial campaigns. [Jewish] Holocaust denier, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Iraq holocaust denier, Condoleezza Rice, exchanged accusations and claims this week in what appeared to be the world championship of reality denial. The extermination of approximately six million Jews during the Nazi holocaust is based on historical evidence or the record. The record can be tested for inaccuracies but denying the Jewish holocaust labels the denier not only a clown and idiot but divorced from reality. It would be extremely difficult to locate a Statesman or woman more bereft than Ahmadinejad, that is until the U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, opened her championship winning mouth! A mendicant’s first responsibility is to achieve quiescence his second is to alleviate the suffering of his fellow human beings. In every sense a Buddhist engages life and human society. Quiescence delivers Peace and from that great storehouse a mendicant is able to assist humanity – contrast the Buddhist approach with the violent Jews, Christians and Muslims. It is clear the Abrahamic religions have degenerated into murdering political organisations – put simply, Christians, Jews and Muslims have lost their religion. It is hoped the shining example of Peaceful mendicants effecting social change in Burma, serves to inspire those who falsely imagine that supporting violent solutions is somehow religion. Give us all a break, Condi! Your ‘righteous’ indignation and feeble political fumbles in relation to Burma are hypocritical and transparent to the extreme. Ms Rice suddenly seems outraged over the treatment of the Burmese people by the military junta. “The Burmese people deserve better ... they deserve a life to be able to live in freedom … the brutality of this regime is well known and so we will be speaking about that, and I think the president will be speaking about it with many of his colleagues,” she said today. China made it clear that America’s record in Iraq -- one million dead civilians and four million displaced persons not mentioning the total ruin of a nation -- constitutes the most heinous crime of the century and leaves America in no position whatsoever to challenge other nations on moral or human rights issues. Accusations and counter accusations from both major parties have captured the attention of the local mass media – as was expected. But to paraphrase William, 'things are not what they seem;’ the incumbent and the contender have both breathed a sigh of relief, the dirt campaign has taken the pressure of our leaders who were faced with the prospect of spelling out their vacuous policies and future ‘plans’ for the nation. The ONE OUTSTANDING FEATURE of APEC was without doubt the massive and unprecedented police presence. Authorities attempted to compensate for their demonstrable LACK of policing skills by a massive (historically unwarranted) deployment of police numbers. It was hoped the sheer weight of numbers (visual presence/scarecrow principle) would carry the day! However, as was clearly demonstrated by the Chasers, SECURITY was left WANTING!
