Anachronistic Nation posted by barra, 2008-02-11 07:03:40 Today the 42nd Australian parliament opened for business; it was notable for its antiquated ceremonial -- not a lot of change since the first colonial parliament in the penal colonies of Australia. (full story) social/political / national
Kosovo: illegal independence but at what price? posted by goran, 2008-02-10 10:29:47 What price is the US and NATO willing to pay for supporting a flagrantly illegal secession in the Balkans? No one knows exactly but it‘s sure to be higher than anyone anticipated! Only the moronic Americans would support such an inflammatory move in this extremely volatile region – oil and gas pipelines notwithstanding. (full story) imperialism / international
American Imperialism and the Symbiotic Narco Trade posted by nano, 2008-02-09 08:10:31 A recent report alerting to the appearance of commercial quantities Afghan brown heroin in the far-away (from source) location of Adelaide, Australia, may indirectly assist American militarists and politicians understand why it is that NATO is reluctant to support the U.S. in further calamitous misadventures in the Middle East, Central Asia or anywhere else. It seems the world is no longer enamoured with the violent, brutish, simplistic, naive and INCOMPETENT leadership of the USA – Robert Gates, take note! Contrasting celebs: humanitarian Jolie vs white trash Hilton posted by talya, 2008-02-08 09:28:31 Celebrity is its own worst enemy; however, Angelina Jolie may be redefining modern celebrity in her new role as UN ‘goodwill ambassador’ to Iraq! (full story) human rights / international
Former racist Oz leader refuses to attend Indigenous Reconciliation Ceremony posted by finch, 2008-02-08 07:54:17 Former PM, racist and war criminal John Howard has declined an invitation to attend a reconciliation ceremony designed to address past injustices suffered by the indigenous population of Australia. Howard’s miserable gesture is true to form. Perhaps now investigations into Howard’s involvement in Iraqi war crimes and crimes against humanity should proceed at speed. Australian Banks practise Financial Coercion via Penalties and Fees posted by krill, 2008-02-07 11:06:14 In an environment of deregulated, free market capitalism you can’t scream laissez-faire and implement constraining, draconian financial policies on the public, which is exactly what deregulated Australian Banks and other local Financial Institutions are doing! TORTURE! posted by reed, 2008-02-05 10:47:49 The CIA finally admits utilising torture on "three" separate occasions, give us a break! ‘Waterboarding,’ a euphemism for administered slow drowning, is not new to the USA. We can safely add at least two zeros to that hysterically absurd CIA figure. American Nazi torturers may have finally learnt what any good book on the subject or an interview with torture victims would have revealed -- ‘information extracted under torture conforms to the torturer's wishes!’ Accuracy has little bearing on information torturers wish to hear – though it is common for torturers to confuse wish-fulfilment with accuracy! THEY make mistakes WE feel the “pain!” posted by barra, 2008-02-04 18:32:47 “This one will really hurt,” announced the new (inept) Australian PM, referring to the latest Reserve Bank interest rate hike of a quarter of one percent. However, he forgot to qualify his comment – hurt YOU he should have added, because it certainly doesn’t hurt him, other politicians or especially the Bank executives who created the problem in the first instance! Rudderless Rudd – we knew it from the start! posted by budgie, 2008-02-03 10:59:09 The clearest indication our new ‘fearless leader,’ Kevin, is a clueless, bereft twerp, came in the form of a plea for ideas on how to run the country! Prior to addressing that disgraceful request our first recommendation to Rudd and his band of bereft eunuchs would be to look up the word GOVERN in any dictionary – for the nation’s sake! The Free World and America’s ‘Fort Apache’ mentality posted by druze, 2008-02-01 12:25:02 Remember how the west was ‘won;’ slaughtering buffalo, the principal food supply of plains Indians, and establishing Forts to secure outposts in the ‘Indian territories?’ All those treaties, lies and slaughtered natives, one and half centuries ago; but expansionist methods haven’t changed an iota. Welcome to Fort Bondsteel in Kosovo and hundreds of other American bases throughout the world! (full story) peace/war / international
The Age of Cowardice posted by finn, 2008-02-01 07:46:01 The most outstanding feature of almost two decades of Australian ‘leadership’ is COWARDICE and the social paralysis that it engenders. A decade of John Howard’s disgustingly servile leadership continues with another face and another party. Labor’s PM, Kevin Rudd, is proving to be even more timid and frightened than his predecessor – most Aussies thought that would be impossible, however, reality is difficult to deny! Keelty’s continuing tenure opens can of incompetent worms posted by dingo, 2008-01-31 10:39:55 The thoroughly incompetent, right-wing, conservative, partisan, ex-Howard lackey, AFP Chief, Mick ‘have another drink’ Keelty, has been timidly denounced by the very timid Queensland PM and the Attorney General for publicly expressing the desire to silence all media reporting of terrorist related cases until such time as the stunningly efficient Keystone AFP have completed their bungling, frame-ups and other manipulations designed to assist former politicians in failed re-election bids – isn’t that right, blind Freddy? Keelty has taken ‘leave’ posted by barra, 2008-01-29 06:52:22 Australian Federal Police Commissioner, Mick ‘lost the plot’ Keelty, seems to be suffering short-term memory loss as a result of alcohol and prescription drug abuse. In an extraordinary outburst Keelty slammed the media and others, “who could put two sentences together,” for criticising his handling of various cases and bungling the Dr. Haneef investigation. State of the Union: living in your own private Denial-aho posted by Jay, 2008-01-28 19:08:21 If you haven’t seen a State in denial we recommend re-playing Bush’s last State of the Union address -- is anybody out there? The clueless, “mission accomplished” president of the U.S.Aaaay was greeted with a standing ovation from Congress, unrestrained cheers and acclamations reaching to the rafters but the delusory, obviously strained overkill betrayed the PANIC of (crashing) reality. What has the Bush administration done right, name one Goddamn thing, to put it in the American idiom! Just one positive contribution – give it a shot and taste reality through all the baloney and disaster! (full story and 1 comments) imperialism / international
