The Bleating Independent Media

It’s bad enough we are faced with the gross omissions and managed ‘news’ of the Corporate Propaganda Media, but surely, do we really need the misdirected focus of the Independents? The Alternative media prides itself on giving us the news mainstream outlets either ignore, dilute or misrepresent, and in most cases they do an admirable job, however, one HUGE error they share in common is the constant attribution/focus on the so-called, ‘ruling elite,’ as the source of all our social woes. No doubt minority interests wield disproportionate influence and power, so it is entirely ‘natural’ (or is it?) that we lay all the blame on them. Hard reality, however, clearly indicates that responsibility for the society in which we live rests with the MAJORITY; that’s right, the masses, sheeple, people, whatever you care to label the wider population; for it is THEY/us that allow minorities to rule, bankers to commit fraud and politicians to commit war crimes with impunity. Make no mistake, the power to change society ‘rests’ with the masses. No war criminal in high office or banker guilty of fraud would escape justice if the people did not allow it.
The MAJOR contributing factor to the apparent paralysis of the people is the FAILURE of the media to remind the masses of their social and moral responsibilities. Only a few decades past the media relentlessly pursued the many injustices of the Vietnam war and the people responded with outright physical opposition to the war and the powers that promoted it.
The Vietnam travesty was ended because the media never let us forget the cruelty, criminality and injustice of that war by constantly depicting its horrors on our TV screens, newsprint and every other medium available. We need not emphasise the point. The fact that mainstream media is now fully in the service of Corporatists that profit from war is widely known; however, the Independent Media, unlike the mainstream, is FREE to comment, report and analyse any event/aspect it chooses and identify the guilty where necessary.
If the mainstream media is in the service of minorities, most Independents clearly are not; so surely it is time to serve the community by drawing attention to the fact that it is the people’s lack of outrage and action that allows the perpetrators of the Iraq civilian holocaust to go unpunished, to name just one monumental social crime to escape accountability.
Perhaps a change of direction is warranted; God knows, this constant harping and blame-laying on the ‘ruling elite’ is getting us/society nowhere.
