Brazilian Pres. Lula backs fledgling Timor-Leste after meeting Ramos-Horta

If anyone is qualified to assist the former Portuguese Colony of Timor-Leste, it’s the former Portuguese colony, Brazil! Principally because former colonies face similar problems and the last thing Timor-Leste needs at this time is another patronising white nation interfering in local politics and development. Lula’s record is proven and his credentials impeccable, impossible to beat!

President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio ‘Lula’ da Silva, has successfully lifted his nation from its ravaged and corrupt colonial past to a rapidly emerging economic power, third only to China and India.

It seems the flounderer Jose Ramos-Horta, is slowly learning the art of politics; nations that wish to assist in the development of his potentially wealthy country are now able to COMPETE for contracts. Nevertheless, the tiny new nation carries deep scars from external political interference -- the US/Australia/Indonesia are responsible for most of the interventions.

Watch your back Jose, western lackey Prime Minister, Gusmao, is not happy and requires close attention – watch his every move.

But congratulations for making moves to preserve the independence of your tiny, resource-rich, nation.

Viva Timor-Leste!

AFP report:

DILI -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva promised to support the young nation of East Timor during talks here Friday with Timorese leaders including President Jose Ramos-Horta.

"President Lula has very happily and with all his capacity promised again to help East Timor," Ramos-Horta told reporters after meeting the leftist Brazilian leader.

"He said that over these two years he wants to better maintain relations with East Timor, especially in areas of agriculture, fisheries and capacity building."

Lula was on a one-day visit as part of a tour of Southeast Asia after attending the Group of Eight summit in Japan earlier this week.

In a speech to parliament he said Brazil would back judicial reform in the area of military courts.

"This constitutes a part of the cooperation in the area of justice between our two countries," he told lawmakers in Portuguese.

Lula also met Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao during his visit to East Timor, which was a Portuguese colony for centuries before it was annexed by Indonesia in 1975.

The mainly Catholic country of one million people finally gained independence in 2002.

The Brazilian president stopped in Vietnam on Thursday where he went to the mausoleum of revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh, and is due to fly to the Indonesian capital Jakarta later Friday.
