'onya, Kate!

[But for Artists the world and our souls would be lost. Turn from vacuous perversities and meaningless (violent) values -- live in HARMONY!

We appreciate that some specialise in the Art of Assassination and War, but surely Poetry is the preferable option!]

PEACE

In keeping with this site's policy of supporting the Arts AND Artists, we are proud to report the following:

Aussie singer Kate Miller-Heidke has won the International Songwriting Competition 2009 grand prize with her single Caught In The Crowd.

Miller-Heidke's song was unanimously selected from more than 17,000 entries by a panel of judges that included Tom Waits, Neil Finn, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Kinks' Ray Davies.

The Brisbane singer, who co-wrote the song with longtime musical collaborator Keir Nuttall, is the first Australian to win the grand prize.

The win earned her US$25,000 ($34,000) in cash and US$20,000 ($27,500) worth of musical equipment and other prizes.

Miller-Heidke said she would use the money to take her band over to perform at Musexpo Europe, with shows in Los Angeles and New York on the way.

She is currently on an Australian tour, taking in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide over the next 10 days.
