Reeking in Timor

international / imperialism / opinion/analysis

Did I hear that word again (communist)? The comment/accusation was directed at the Timorese Prime Minister Alkatiri during an Oz ‘newscast’ – certainly puts an interesting slant on the Timor situation! I was reminded of the emerging independence of the Congo and the short life of its charismatic leader, Patrice Lumumba. The intervention of the CIA and the subsequent assassination of Patrice were entirely ‘coincidental’ events!

The Transnationals have been feeding like pigs at the trough of the extremely resource rich nation of the Congo ever since the assassination of Lumumba. The Congo is and has been a borderline failed state since the CIA intervened, chaos and deprivation for the locals but riches for the foreign Corporations. What does the future hold for Timor?

A tiny island state was successfully prised from Indonesia for the purposes of appropriating maritime oil rights. Are we surprised by today’s intervention – made necessary by a manufactured crisis resulting in an expected request for military assistance? It is clear THE OCCUPATION HAS BEGUN, American and Australian oil interests, the UN, and the deputy sheriff of the South Pacific, John Howard are only there to help!

The public is lapping up the fabricated news at face value; ‘we are really helping the poor little darkies aren’t we’, are the self-assuring inner thoughts of Howard’s racist Australians? Better to leave those things to our fearless leaders, Howard, Downer and Nelson. Meanwhile innocent people are being murdered for the sake of profit and greed.

The situation in Timor was allowed to deteriorate after the USA urged the rebel leader to fight for ‘his’ rights. The fact that Alkatiri was perceived to be making overtures to Communist States like Cuba and China had nothing to do with it! It is alleged that the ‘rebel’ leader’s wife is in the employ of the USA and acted as a convenient medium in the overall strategy to occupy and consolidate (control resources) under the guise of peace keeping. [A Balkans’ lament!]

Military intervention has become an option for a few affluent resource hungry nations. We note time and again that underdeveloped nations that fall victim to horrendous events and appalling circumstances are neglected if there are no resources to exploit. The present intervention in Timor is transparent and so are the circumstances that inflamed the present melee.

Modern history has already identified the forces that opt for military intervention and exploitation, especially those involving oil resources. The popular media (as distinct from the Corporatist mass media) has ‘outed’ the subversive and surreptitious practices of agencies like the CIA. The veil that once hid the machinations of these sordid murdering groups has been perforated and lifted.

The forces of Capitalism are nothing if not consistent and it is that consistency that identifies the forces behind recent events. Nothing more needs be said except perhaps to seek verification as events unfold. The ‘spots’ of the Transnational beast do not change.

Prime Minister Alkatiri is the present leader of East Timor and until such time as the people of East Timor are able to determine/confirm their leadership we oppose any outside interference in the affairs of the Sovereign State of East Timor.

Due to Timor’s proximity to Oz, the positive side to this story is that we are in the perfect position to offer assistance to those who continue to fight against foreign forces invading a sovereign nation.

have you noticed how the mass media is feasting on the (sensationalist) results of the trouble in ET rather than investigating the causes?

as usual it is left to the independent media to address the causes.

The superficial and sensationalist treatment of the ET crisis is in character .. the lackey propaganda arm of Capitalism that is the MASS MEDIA serves its masters well.

Hi, thanks for your information. I have written an article on this (on the related link), taking information from a variety of sources, not least asiatimes online.

A great news resource, they actually seem to put a little more effort into investigation than our western press.

I sincerely hope the relevant information gets out there and Australians start protesting before things go completely down the tube for the people of ET.

From what I can gather, Alkatiri's biggest crime is trying to make his country independent from Australia and the US (through the world bank, of course).

Timing is everything -- it's back to the hills!

Alkatiri and Gusmao have been in conflict for years they both are responsible for the present breakdown and unfortunately they, like their previous Indonesian masters, could care less how many innocent lives are lost!

Almost 100% unemployed youth creates the perfect guerilla army -- who would take for granted the citizens after retaliation? The price of inequity is war.

We remind those nations who have formed the present occupation force to review their involvement. The people will determine their leaders and their system of government. The option is to show the world the REAL reasons for foreign intervention (securing OIL resources). America has shown the way -- who cares if your cards are showing -- just do it! The ultra-right must prevail or die, is the familiar war cry of the coalition of willing criminals.

The real news is we are ready -- WE ARE HERE TO STOP YOU!

Watch us and join us.

Be advised, Australia will regret the blatant robbery of our petro-resources. The thief will pay his debt to the people of Timor-Leste.
