Circus Yukos

The antics of opposing groups of Oil interests played out by the performances of their respective governments have reached new levels of absurdity. As the Russian ‘due process of law’ dismantles Yukos for take-over by one of its lackey interests, the West screams outrage and accuses Russian courts of corruption, ‘confirming’ that the Russian legal system is the “tool of a corrupt government.” Really! Since when has the legal system of any nation been anything other than a tool of the prevailing regime? Where is the US legal system hiding in the face of flagrant illegalities such as Guantanamo Bay prisoner abuse/torture, illegal war activities (Iraq) immunity of the US military from war crimes prosecution etc? When we see Kissinger – one of the most notorious mass murderers in recent history – in the dock at the ICC, we may lend an incredulous ear to the ravings of hypocrites and liars. The credibility rating for both the East-West regimes has reached zero. The charioteers are fumbling the reigns.
There is nothing blind about ‘justice’ – legal institutions are selectively sighted with eyes focused firmly on their masters. The Oil wars of today highlight the complete lack of independence and impartiality of the Courts. This is not news for the people of Eastern Europe and Russia, years of experience have immunised them against all notions of impartiality; however, their contemporaries in the West are learning slowly but surely that State institutions serve the interests of those who control the State.
The road to chaos is being paved by the institutions that desire it least, the institutions of social control. The ‘blindfold’ of justice has been removed, revealing that the Law is only blind to (majorities) those without money or influence.
