Media Strategies and Revolving Spin
by peptide Saturday, Jun 18 2005, 9:33am
international / mass media / opinion/analysis

Should anyone be in shock or awe over the fact that Bush, Blair and Howard still lead their respective governments? What are the results of international exposure regarding the lies they promulgated in relation to the Iraq invasion? It is highly unlikely that any of these leaders would have survived the public outrage generated by these exposures in a historical setting a few decades earlier. But today leaders are comfortable in the knowledge that the public is not as it was and times are not conducive to integrity or public outrage.

The media continues to conduct ‘debates’ relating to the lies surrounding the invasion of Iraq when firm evidence (which could support a trial) has already become a matter of public record. The now very partisan mass media entertains its audience with the appearance that justice is a possibility and that righteous indignation may be appeased. However, it has become a saga or serialised for its own sake, a distraction feigning effectiveness. Meanwhile, the powers behind the puppet leaders continue their agenda of action while the ‘debate’ deals with the semantics of previous events.

The media now holds the attention of the public in a removed space; that is, it purports to be dealing with news in present time whereas in actuality it is (consciously) dealing with past events or historical time. The public is kept unaware of events as they transpire, notwithstanding that some incomplete information is released in order to maintain the appearance that the media is fulfilling its role.

The created time gap/situation affords a clear field of operation for those forces engaged in economic plunder or other questionable activities. Exploitation and economic colonisation are effectively achieved in the field of action that always precedes scrutiny, media debate or investigative journalism. This engineered ‘space’ provides numerous opportunities to deploy various strategies free of immediate scrutiny. In the event that an action/activity meets with a strong negative reaction, the ‘free field’ continues to provide an effective buffer in which a counter-strategy could be deployed. The artificial creation of a real crisis situation is not beyond possibility. This would leave the public and those in opposition with no option other than to attend to the created emergency. Strategies of this type fall under the general heading of distractions.

The invasion of Iraq cannot be reversed cry the perpetrators so please assist in the rebuilding (plunder) process and share in the ‘implementation of democracy’. Previous reluctant nations have been cajoled into participation by the lure of sp-oil-s which are bandied openly in the form of ‘development contracts’ or the ‘rebuilding Iraq’ guise. The media pathologically avoids reporting the cost in civilian lives (approx 15,000 to date) of this (failed) adventure. The number of civilian casualties of this illegal war warrants a similar reaction to that dispensed to Milosevic or Hussein. But where is the Hague in relation to US criminals of State? And where is the persistent coverage from the media?

Consider a scenario in which Bush, Rumsfeld, Blair, Cheney etc., were to stand trial for their war crimes at the ICC. Would there be any doubt that the ‘powers’ would create a ‘crisis’ situation that would prevent this occurrence. I cite Henry Kissinger (responsible for 1.5 million civilian deaths) as an obvious example of a war criminal under the protection of various cabals – one in particular.

If we incorporate a created ‘crisis’ with the new international financial and banking strategy to run the world’s workforce and the poorer and colonised nations in perpetual debt, you have a very tired, reluctant and manageable public.

The forces engaged in world economic colonisation at present have not confined themselves to obvious strategies like the Iraq invasion. Howard’s Australia is in financial debt to amounts not previously seen; the means (rich resource sector) which has been traditionally available to rescue Australia from debt crisis is now almost totally in the hands of foreign Corporations. The nation has been effectively colonised without a shot being fired or any opposition from the population. This is the result of complicity between major political parties and media moguls allowing the forces and interests behind Globalisation to gain ownership of the nation’s wealth. It is notable that during this period of ‘assimilation’, the local media chose to ignore the most historically significant event in Australia’s short white history.

It would seem that the media failed to perform in a period when it was in the public interest but not the private interest; reporting both sides of a story and suppling as much information as possible has become an historical oddity for today’s media. Abraham Lincoln’s sentiment of an informed public that determines which course it takes is obviously a redundant notion in today’s Zionist (Perle, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld) influenced Washington. We now have those (elites in power) who treat the public (and the US President) as a moronic mass in need of management. It would seem that the public must be protected against ‘information overload’ – a tailored media product is now preferred.

The reader is at liberty to verify US media policy in its pure form, from the following account:

During an ethnic cleansing campaign the Israeli military was under orders to shoot at independent media teams attempting to cover the ethnic cleansing (bulldozing) of Palestinian settlements. Reporters from a number of nations were shot and unfortunately a number were killed; these reporters wore very distinctive clothing and markings to identify them as media. These markings worked against them in an atmosphere of criminal repression and the might is right ideology of God’s chosen people – as for the rest of us cockroaches, tough titty. Independent media representatives were intentionally targeted shot/killed by those who felt it their prerogative and privilege to take the Law into their own hands.

The response from the Israeli military was the usual “caught in a crossfire” excuse. Fortunately, film evidence exists clearly depicting the actuality of events, which of course is contrary to the version given by the military. The film evidence clearly depicts selective targeting by the military and the murder of an unarmed British activist. I do not often ‘lose it’ when writing a paper and it would have been a simple matter to edit this section. However, as an independent analyst and journalist I will not remain silent on these matters. I certainly do not subscribe to any military or violent solution espoused in an antiquated barbaric text purporting to be the word of some murderous racist God. And when any comparison is made between Abraham Lincoln’s America and the present Zionist influenced regime, the choice is clear. Furthermore, the present US regime has no international credibility whatsoever while Kissinger remains free. Surrendering him to the International Criminal Court of Justice would contribute to a sympathetic re-assessment of the US and its place in the world today.

A now infamous example of a complicit mass media is the case of Colin Powell, in particular his performance at the UN in support of an illegal invasion of Iraq. I would state at the outset – if anyone in the Bush administration had any credibility in the international arena it was Colin Powell; however, after his adept performance at the UN, his rating is now zero or less – one does not recover from unabashed deception easily.

It was well known that Powell had tremendous appeal during his tenure as Secretary of State, a not too difficult achievement considering the rest of the team. He appeared to oppose the ultra-right radical policies and take a more moderate and sane position. A ruse if ever there was one. His credibility would be utilised as a trump card, and it was, to full effect and advantage. Who can forget Powell waving a little test tube of white substance accompanied by his dire words describing the destructive effect small amounts of this substance could wreak on the community; or the satellite photos of a truck, which Powell claimed was a mobile lab producing various chemical weapons. Extremely thin content but the performance was truly award winning. The multi-media (corporate) style presentation lacked substance; the content was nothing more than a few very dull photos of an ordinary truck and a tube full of white powder. However, the combined effect of the media covering a multi-media presentation at the UN, with a consummate performance by Powell stole the decision. Hans Blix of the UN team was out-performed even though his presentation was accurate and rigorous. The existence of “mobile labs” was a total fabrication, a component of an orchestrated campaign of lies designed to mislead the public.

Powell succeeded in selling his ‘snake oil’ but at great cost to his reputation and future credibility. Powell’s performance was utilised world-wide by an obliging media which of course failed to question the presentation – and therein lies the true character of today’s media; it has degenerated into a propaganda tool working in unison with financial and transnational corporate interests that seek domination of the worlds resources and markets.

The consequences of a partisan media are horrendous. Credibility loss and opposition are the least concerns; the Arabs do not believe the US media portrayal of an American military that is invincible. As a result they have exposed numerous weaknesses. The multi-billion dollar high tech military has no answer for an ‘invisible enemy' – one that offers no specific target. The US is learning once again that it is men that win and lose wars. Skill and intelligence have never failed in overcoming a stronger opponent.

There is an extremely dangerous outcome for the evolution of the 'invisible enemy' concept, and that is the creation of an enemy who was once a friend. When media promulgated lies are exposed and people realise they have been duped; friends become enemies but maintain their appearance as friends.

A partisan deceptive media creates enemies through antagonism and the betrayal of public trust.

God save the Queen and God bless America.
