Corporate Rule: Proof Irrefutable
major mitchell, Monday, Jun 14 2010, 10:41pm
The now anachronistic ‘Department of Defense’ (DoD) recently released a commercial business assessment (see link) of Afghanistan's resource and mineral wealth, which has been measured in the hundreds of BILLIONS of DOLLARS -- a routine matter for Corporations BUT an extraordinary assessment by the Pentagon, which traditionally should be an arm of government charged with the responsibility of national security and defense! Perhaps a name change for the obsolete traditional military is warranted, how about the ‘Department of Greed and Invasion or Civilian Killing and Holocausts or Resource Plundering and Theft etc;’ I’m sure readers could offer hundreds more accurate titles for the obscenity that has occurred these past few days? Canada: A Democracy in Crisis
Murray Dobbin via stan, Sunday, Jun 13 2010, 10:02pm
Canada is in the midst of a crisis in democracy unique in its history. There is simply no other historical example that one can compare it to. It is multi-faceted and it affects every aspect of our national politics and political discourse. It is inexorably eroding the political fabric of the country and therefore our viability as a democratic nation.

Iran and the Balkans: Russia Risks Making the Same Mistakes
Pyotr Iskenderov via dragan, Saturday, Jun 12 2010, 8:39pm
The recent UN Security Council resolution slapping new sanctions on Iran is likely to become the worst defeat suffered by the Russian diplomacy over the past years. Its negative impact may be persistent and more serious than that of the proclamation of Kosovo's independence to which Russia continues objecting. What we are witnessing seems to be an unexpected recurrence of the syndrome of unilateral concessions to the West which eroded Russia's international politics, especially its Balkan part, in the 90's. Following the Western lead in dealing with Iran, Russia is risking to lose both its positions in a region much more extensive than the Balkans and its hard-earned key role in the raising multipolar world.

Be Our Guest, Julian!
Raffi Khatchadourian via Kismo, Friday, Jun 11 2010, 10:38am
The house on Grettisgata Street, in Reykjavik, is a century old, small and white, situated just a few streets from the North Atlantic. The shifting northerly winds can suddenly bring ice and snow to the city, even in springtime, and when they do a certain kind of silence sets in. This was the case on the morning of March 30th, when a tall Australian man named Julian Paul Assange, with gray eyes and a mop of silver-white hair, arrived to rent the place. Assange was dressed in a gray full-body snowsuit, and he had with him a small entourage. “We are journalists,” he told the owner of the house. Eyjafjallajökull had recently begun erupting, and he said, “We’re here to write about the volcano.” (story and 6 comments and 2 images)

Patrick Allen via fleet, Wednesday, Jun 9 2010, 7:13am
Bond markets could get very nasty over the coming months, while stock investors could take a few months off and stop attempting to trade volatile swings in the markets, Anthony Fry, senior managing director at Evercore Partners, told CNBC Monday.

All Lies
Mike Whitney via stele, Tuesday, Jun 8 2010, 10:29pm
Israel has become Myanmar on the Jordan. Every new act of violence deepens the paranoia, the resentment, the isolation. The killing of 9 peace activists aboard the Mavi Marmara was celebrated in Tel Aviv--another blood victory against the 'terrorists', another triumph against those who would harm Israel. Heads of state around the world have condemned the butchery, but Israelis have shrugged off the criticism. They think that support for the activists is anti-Semitism. They think that food and medicine are weapons that will be used by Hamas against Israel. This is madness, but madness has consequences. Nine people are dead.

Some Big Lies of Science
Denis G. Rancourt via reed, Monday, Jun 7 2010, 7:03am
“The majority of politicians, on the evidence available to us, are interested not in truth but in power and in the maintenance of that power. To maintain that power it is essential that people remain in ignorance, that they live in ignorance of the truth, even the truth of their own lives. What surrounds us therefore is a vast tapestry of lies, upon which we feed.” – Harold Pinter, Nobel Lecture (Literature), 2005

God’s chosen Terrorists!
finch, Saturday, Jun 5 2010, 10:00pm
Israel’s forced boarding and seizure of the MV Rachel Corrie in international waters yesterday highlights what many commentators are loath to mention and others are at pains to hide; the cultural consciousness/basis behind which the inhuman actions of Israel toward non-Jews are realised. China, Russia and the MV Rachel Corrie
baz, Thursday, Jun 3 2010, 9:27pm
Take your place on the world stage; an opportunity goes begging to fight and win; leverage a hugely popular cause; demonstrate your relevance in world affairs and offer a NAVAL ESCORT for the MV Rachel Corrie on her humanitarian mission to Gaza. Make perfectly clear to the world which two nations -- USA and ISRAEL -- terrorise humanity and arrogantly flout international law and convention by making a Nazi concentration camp of the Gaza strip!

Gaza: when world leaders become irrelevant
stylus, Wednesday, Jun 2 2010, 7:59am
We are heartened that divergent groups of brave, freedom loving people of conscience came together to form a multinational peace force to assist their fellow human beings in distress – the highest ideal of civilised humanity and the major religions has been realised by a humanitarian aid convoy sailing to relieve the long suffering people of Gaza. It seems the designs of a few sick Zionist minds to transform the new century into a permanent warring hell may have been thwarted. Peaceful resistance has been re-affirmed as the most powerful force for social change known to civilised society. [I need not remind readers which nations adhere to the ideology of ‘permanent war’ – this past decade bears horrific testimony to the carnage perpetrated on an unsuspecting world by ISRAEL and AMERICA.] (story and 2 comments)

Irish ship sails for Gaza in defiance of Criminal Blockade
Stephen C. Webster via ryall, Tuesday, Jun 1 2010, 9:59pm
In DEFIANCE of U.S. supported Israeli crimes on land and sea, the IRISH ship MV Rachel Corrie continues to sail for Gaza with relief aid. The WORLD, now intolerant of the appalling crimes committed against humanity by ISRAEL/AMERICA, two ROGUE nations that mistakenly believe they are somehow ‘special’ and above the law, watches with keen interest! We offer, from Australia, our whole hearted support for the brave crew and passengers of this ‘little’ IRISH vessel, which continues to fly the ‘flag’ of FREEDOM, JUSTICE AND HUMANITY for us ALL. You little bewdy!

Tony Blair’s Blood Money
stan, Sunday, May 30 2010, 12:12am
In spite of Blair’s now infamous ‘45 minute’ LIE, which led Britain into an unholy alliance with the criminal Cheney/Bush administration -- facilitators for Oil Transnationals -- and the ensuing civilian Iraqi holocaust; Blair continues to feather his own nest and feed his unrestrained avarice on the misery he inflicts on others – this man is truly the worst type of criminal imaginable! In our amoral, cowardly faces!
stylus, Friday, May 28 2010, 8:54pm
The entire world – including the Hague (plainly corrupt) Courts and the joke that is the UN -- watches as the US continues its overtly criminal, civilian-killing Drone strikes in Central Asia and Africa. These strikes are conducted by a non-military organisation, the CIA, a situation that clearly exacerbates and increases the criminal nature of the crimes, which are committed almost daily by the Obama administration.
