America: a moral swampland
lynx, Sunday, Jan 13 2008, 9:34pm
This short paper is written as a response to RAND Corp, Carnegie-Mellon (Institute) and a host of other American ‘think’ tanks – if the functional qualifier, "think," is at all relevant in America today! We can save you a lot of conjecture and trouble by simply stating it as it is! But then how would you justify your existence?

The civilian death toll measures terrorist activity more accurately than other any other measure.
George W Bush, the world’s leading terrorist and leader of the world’s most vile Terrorist State cannot prevent the inevitable retaliatory attack on mainland USA. A small, highly skilled European group of Freedom fighters and others opposed to despots, war criminals and mass murderers have pledged to rid the world of the idiot tyrant and deliver a message that hometown USA will never forget – try denying a silent, blinding flash and vaporisation! The price you pay for supporting Bush and the crimes he perpetrates in YOUR name, THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE (AND DEATH)! (story and 2 images)

Where has all the money gone, it’s been a short time passing?
peptide, Saturday, Jan 12 2008, 11:18am
Money doesn’t evaporate or disappear – it just changes hands!
The most amusing aspect of the ‘credit crunch,’ ‘sub-prime crisis’ – let’s call a spade a spade, the massive losses incurred as a result of manipulation and appropriation of trillions in funds by very clever, fast-talking financial manipulators/rogues -- are the lame excuses offered by bank execs to a very angry, debt-burdened public.
It’s time to face the music gentlemen and inform the public of the grim, compromising story of a failed economic model and the result of financial deregulation. If you are unable to clearly trace where all the money has gone, then accept responsibility for the losses and your incompetence and beg for mercy – your multi-million-dollar salaries now threaten to destroy you? It’s time to speak up before some bright, angry, family person or shareholders group arranges a SIMULTANEOUS, nation-wide DEFAULT ON ALL LOANS! [In the present climate, not a difficult task!] (story and 1 image)

Mushroom (cloud) Blues
yarra, Friday, Jan 11 2008, 9:39pm
What possesses a once moral nation to reverse course and embark on a flagrantly illegal path of military invasion, plunder and murder. The REALITY of American intervention in Iraq is countless civilian deaths, the installation of a puppet government and a declaration that America now has interests it must protect after laying waste to a once viable State -- that is REAL American 'liberty and democracy' in action! Do Americans actually imagine they can murder over one million innocent men, women and children and avoid retribution – it seems so? Americans remain in a state of convenient blindness (denial) to the horrors they have caused -- no price is too high for OTHERS TO PAY for the American way of life!

The Mother Load: grass roots electioneering
nano, Tuesday, Jan 8 2008, 9:14am
“That damned internet!” We could hear the plutocrats and media moguls from here (Australia). There is no denying that many ruling interests have taken a severe pounding from the ‘new’ grass roots GLOBAL communications medium. Given the means, many small voices on the net have combined to form a tsunami for "CHANGE" – there’s that magic word again!

Islamist’s prayers answered by U.S. proposed intervention
barra, Sunday, Jan 6 2008, 9:31am
The North West Frontier of Pakistan’s tribal region is steeped in the history of failed attempts by foreign Imperial forces to subdue the region. From Alexander the Great through Imperial Britain to the Russians -- the ferociously independent tribes of this region have successfully resisted all efforts to subdue them. But the U.S. donkey imagines it can do what other more skilled militaries could not accomplish!

A bullet for Obama
finch, Saturday, Jan 5 2008, 8:09pm
Who would have thought the dark horse democrat would capture the hearts and minds of so many with his slick speeches and smooth delivery – a good dose of charisma hasn’t gone to waste on him either. However, the plutocrats are murmuring; their anointed has been usurped by the people’s choice – a certain foreboding now hangs over Obama as he continues to gain in the race to the Presidency. Consider what the rabid right once did to a white Catholic democrat President and his brother. Who imagines they have changed after witnessing their handiwork with Bush and the neo-cons? Domestic collateral damage
nano, Saturday, Jan 5 2008, 8:40am
People are unravelling at an alarming rate today. Millions are succumbing to the pressures of western, affluent society. Something critically important to human well being is definitely missing from the capitalist formula. Almost the entire population is suffering from stress/anxiety related complaints. Did we destroy numerous indigenous cultures for this? Is our ‘advanced/superior’ culture a LIE or rather is it a sociological DISEASE that is killing the planet? It is clear that nintendo and plasma TV do not happiness make! CONSUMERISM BENEFITS ONLY THE FEW IT SEEMS! (story and 2 images)

Kevin Rudd: they see him here, there, NOWHERE!
major mitchell, Friday, Jan 4 2008, 9:22am
Who is the leader you have when you don’t have a leader, why Kevin Rudd, of course? Remember how that little Queensland bureaucrat ‘caved’ and back-stepped on every tiny issue he imagined would lose him a vote prior to the elections? True to ‘character,’ excuse me, that little shit has NO character! 'True to form’ Rudd has caved on the promise to monitor the Japanese whale slaughter in the Southern Oceans. (story and 2 images)

Saddam defeats Bush from grave
yarra, Tuesday, Jan 1 2008, 8:14am
What to do with a living president defeated by a dead dictator?
I will never forget the rallying call Saddam made prior to his arranged execution; his final command to the nation was to fight a classic guerrilla war of attrition and draw the American elephant into a quagmire where it could EASILY be DEFEATED. He promised victory if the people persevered and he was right. However, Saddam’s ranting was more a manifestation of bravado and personal rage than directives to a people that hated his guts!

A Quechua Christmas Story
Greg Palast via reed, Monday, Dec 31 2007, 4:12pm
And [Professor] Doctor Correa is one tough character. He told George Bush to take the US military base and stick it where the equatorial sun don’t shine. He told the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which held Ecuador’s finances by the throat, to go to hell. He ripped up the “agreements” which his predecessors had signed at financial gun point. He told the Miami bond vultures that were charging Ecuador usurious interest, to eat their bonds. He said ‘We are not going to pay off this debt with the hunger of our people. ” Food first, interest later. Much later. And he meant it. (story and 1 image)

Authorities desperate to stigmatise Hicks
nano, Monday, Dec 31 2007, 9:12am
The South Australian Premier, Mike Rann, is best known for his corrupt complicity in allowing BHP Billiton to extract -- FREE OF CHARGE -- millions of litres (per day) of precious drinking water from OUR artesian basin. One can only imagine the amount or ‘incentives’ offered this ‘honourable’ politician for the privilege! A man with no moral fibre is in no position to judge or demand apologies from anyone, especially victims of torture. (story and 1 comment)

Sorry, Charlie. This Is Michael Vickers's War
Ann Scott Tyson via rialator, Sunday, Dec 30 2007, 5:26pm
In the Pentagon's newly expanded Special Operations office, a suite of sterile gray cubicles on the "C" ring of the third floor, Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael G. Vickers is working to implement the U.S. military's highest-priority plan: a global campaign against terrorism that reaches far beyond Iraq and Afghanistan. (story and 2 comments and 1 image)

David Hicks and ‘Freedom’
col, Saturday, Dec 29 2007, 7:58am
David Hicks walked ‘free’ from Yatala high security prison yesterday but freedom is a very ambiguous term and an extremely elusive state. Hicks is discovering, after his release, that prison walls are not necessarily physical. After suffering five years of the most insidious, horrendous, psychological and physical TORTURE at the Guantanamo Bay torture facility, David Hicks could in no way be described as ‘free.’ He will carry the scars left by Guantanamo for the rest of his life – psychologically Hicks remains incarcerated. However, he need not remain a mental cripple, many have survived torture to live and ‘fight’ again. (story and 1 comment)

Bhutto assassination update!
gill, Friday, Dec 28 2007, 8:48am
Pakistan’s interior ministry is in frantic damage control in the wake of Benazir Bhutto's assassination. In a futile attempt to extinguish the flames of rebellion, the interior ministry today claimed that Benazir Bhutto died as a result of bumping her head on the roof of the vehicle in which she was travelling. They also claimed that no bullet or shrapnel wounds were found on her body! ‘No doubt,’ and I had breakfast with John F Kennedy -- he was shot with a bullet that could turn corners! Benazir Bhutto killed: what price a human life?
gan, Thursday, Dec 27 2007, 5:42am
Benazir Bhutto shot and killed while campaigning in Rawalpindi yesterday!
Inadequate security measures at a campaign rally allowed an assassin to discharge five shots at Bhutto one of which penetrated her neck killing her. After discharging his weapon the suicide gunman detonated a bomb-belt killing himself and at least ten people in close proximity. (story and 2 comments and 1 image)
