 Oz visit: A Dose of U.S. Delusion from Rice

Australia experienced a dose of Americana in the form of a visit from (divorced from reality) Condoleezza Rice, who maintains that Iraq is in a better position today than prior to the US invasion! The whole world is aware of the absolute DEBACLE that is Iraq and the ridiculous claims that were made prior to the invasion and now the absurd excuses from Wolfowitz, Rice and others, that everything will turn out fine in the end. Fairytale explanations do not ‘cut it’ outside the USA, Ms. Rice, what future or ‘end’ did you have in mind? The whole world is aware that you are ‘winging it’ or improvising as you go! But it’s a damn shame that kids and other innocents are dying while you and your criminally inept government lie and deceive. (story and 1 comment)

It should now be apparent to all that the usual strategies have proven ineffective against the ultra-right of today. The reasons are clear; the right is playing hard, fast and bold while the opposition is lost in analysis and navel gazing. ‘Storming the Bastille’ may again be required to precipitate change. Demos, alternative media, various forms of dissenting propaganda have all failed to alter the course of events. The prospect of Iran developing a nuclear capability (which would realistically entail at least a five-year time frame) did not prevent John Bolton, US representative to the UN, stating that a “painful” response would be inflicted on Iran if it failed to comply with UN (American) dictates! Questions of the UN’s independence aside, is the focus on Iran a distraction from the debacle that is Iraq or is the USA following their PNAC strategy with little regard for consequences? Bush and his ultra-right honchos are really pissed this time – in their efforts to track down a US loyalist, who spilt the beans on domestic spying, the Bush gestapo are now targeting journos and the free press. All the ‘security’ agencies at this megalomaniac’s disposal have been commandeered for the task. This attack on the free press is yet another devastating blow directed at the already battered body of American democracy and liberty. America, the home of the brave and the land of the free, has been relegated to the historical record. This new land is an abominable aberration of the original.

All doubts regarding Bush’s prior knowledge of the magnitude and destructive impact expected of Katrina have been dispelled by the release of video evidence clearly portraying Bush in full knowledge of the then pending emergency. We leave the pathological problem of Bush and the lying neo-cons in the incapable hands of the American people; the Bush regime is internationally known as the most deceitful and tawdry in American history. We laugh when we see a dog chase its tail, yet are we so superior? Do we not seek what we already possess? The dog’s tail is not elsewhere or ‘external’, the dog thinks/believes its tail must be captured though it was never lost or disconnected. When people chase externals, Gods, religions, ideologies they seek that which they already possess (solace/identity/security/redemption/joy/harmony) yet it is the same canine ignorance that deludes people as deludes the poor dumb beast. To seek what one possesses is to lose it through the process of seeking – seeking is not possessing!

On his triumphalist tour of this part of the world, where he hopes to wave imperiously at people he considers potential subjects, President Bush's itinerary is getting curiouser and curiouser. For his March 2 pit stop in New Delhi, the Indian government tried very hard to have him address our Parliament. A not inconsequential number of MPs threatened to heckle him, so Plan One was hastily shelved. Plan Two was that he address the masses from the ramparts of the magnificent Red Fort where the Indian prime minister traditionally delivers his Independence Day address. But the Red Fort, surrounded as it is by the predominantly Muslim population of Old Delhi, was considered a security nightmare. So now we're into Plan Three: President George Bush speaks from Purana Qila, the Old Fort. (story and 1 comment and 1 image)

The famous Shiite Askariyah shrine (Golden Mosque) in Iraq has been targeted and destroyed but by whom remains unclear at this stage. Regardless of the intentions of those responsible, one dramatic (and historically consistent) point cuts through the hysteria and mayhem. That of the importance (or otherwise) of sites that are deemed sacred or holy and the 'location' of this attribution in human consciousness and/or human societies/groups. Social history records naturally occurring phenomena, rocks, rivers etc; structures built by men, temples, obelisks etc; cyclic astronomical phenomena, eclipses, comets etc, all of which have been attributed by humans with special significance at one time or another, whereas none of these produced or naturally occurring phenomenon are ‘holy’ or ‘sacred’. A poorly armed and trained but highly motivated and dedicated band of fighters has exposed the US military as weak, inept, unskilled, brutal and bereft. From South America to the Himalayas, resistance against capitalist plunder and exploitation signals the inevitable failure of militaristic capitalism. Regardless of all other considerations people today have confirmed that they will fight any aggressor who threatens their homes, families and way of life.

The recent religious furore over certain (cartoon) publications in the secular press unambiguously identifies ‘religion’ as little more than cheap politics; or put in simpler more accurate terms; religion is the politics of the mentally deficient. Consider the possibility of an infinite creator/God and the arrogance of those who actually think or imagine they or any other finite being could possibly pollute, insult or deface that God. A characteristic of Godhead is IMMUTABILITY! Rationalists would refer to the basic logic of the inability of the finite to apprehend the infinite (God); the two states are mutually exclusive.
