A Sovereignty Primer
Zed, Sunday, Feb 1 2009, 10:36am
Recent history has CLEARLY revealed the criminal and corrupt nature of Western governments; the issue is no longer whether they are corrupt it’s what to do in the face of flagrant incompetence, corruption and criminality displayed by our governments.
Regardless of where it may lead – hopefully social reform -- the very first legal and responsible act is to declare ourselves SOVEREIGN entities and reserve our right NOT to be imposed upon by criminals, brutes and thugs masquerading as stewards and guardians of a our values, laws and ethical codes; all of which have been attacked and subverted by modern Western governments! Having a 'Voice' Makes People Happy
Frances Moore Lappé via finch, Saturday, Jan 31 2009, 10:28pm
"What is happiness? The feeling that power is growing, that resistance is overcome.” So wrote Friedrich Nietzsche in 1895.
I’m guessing that many of you would feel uncomfortable embracing this definition of happiness, especially coming from one of history’s most famous curmudgeons. If so, maybe in part it’s because too often we’ve nodded in agreement with Lord Acton’s catchy caveat, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” And who would want to risk corruption?

A Procession of Fools
peptide, Saturday, Jan 31 2009, 4:10am
The leading contributing factor to the liberation of the enslaved masses in the early 21st century was the brazen and overt criminality of the Bush and other allied regimes. The Bush regime singlehandedly and irreparably undermined every aspect of social cohesion, traditional value, regulation and legality in the western world. Among its most outstanding ‘achievements’ are a civilian holocaust in Iraq, perpetrated in the name of ‘liberty, freedom and democracy,’ and the blind pursuit of de-regulated, free-market capitalism, which culminated in the destruction of the GLOBAL economy! No small feats considering Bush’s tenure in office was only eight short years! (story and 1 comment)

Well done, Leonard!
Richard Jinman via quill, Friday, Jan 30 2009, 9:40pm
From the earliest totems and depictions on cave walls till today; poets/artists have possessed the ‘magic’ to transform. The world allows murderers, liars and frauds to assume leadership at great cost to the people and planet. However, REAL HOPE and CHANGE RESIDES in the CREATIVE (not warring, destructive) spirit of humankind; from all Aussie poets and artists, WELCOME to Oz, Leonard -- and a job well done, old man.
“That sunny dome those caves of ice
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.” -- STC |
Sydney is also known for its street poet, Arthur Stace, who summed it up in a word, which he chalked onto the sidewalks of Sydney until his death:

America's War in Central Asia
Craig Murray via quill, Wednesday, Jan 28 2009, 7:24am
Despite being denied proper access to the Law Faculty building, ex-ambassador Craig Murray spoke and answered questions from the entrance for over 45 minutes. He spoke on the US war in Central Asia for control over natural gas pipelines, Lord Taylor of Blackburn and other war profiteers, and anti-Muslim propaganda in the media. Murray explicitly supported several key demands of the occupation as reasonable: that the university withdraw investment from the arms trade; that there be bursaries for Palestinian students; and that the university condemn Israel's recent actions towards Gaza.

The active Australian Independence Movement
dingo, Tuesday, Jan 27 2009, 7:12pm
Before the days of overt rebel expression in Australia -- the Eureka Stockade and the Kelly gang -- Imperial England had developed a plan to criminalise and exploit a downtrodden and oppressed underclass and utilise them as a slave labour force for newly ‘acquired’ colonies. Similar methods are utilised today by America. Labelling victims as criminals and ‘TERRORISTS’ allows for modern colonialists to steal land, commit mass murder and plunder the valuable resources of weaker nations. It becomes apparent that European Monarchs and today’s Western ‘democratic’ governments are merely fronts for mercantile, commercial and corporate interests. The formula of invasion, mass murder, installation of compliant regimes and EXPLOITATION hasn’t changed an iota in hundreds of years! (story and 1 comment and 2 images)

Obama approved drone missile strike in Pakistan
major mitchell, Sunday, Jan 25 2009, 9:44am
Obama has been ‘blooded’ by his handlers. Obama, fully cognisant of the consequences of his action, approved a drone missile strike that targeted and killed innocent civilians in Pakistan! Get used to it because it’s the nature of modern American warfare (MURDER). For every targeted individual at least 10 innocent civilians also die; missiles launched from 30,000 feet could hardly be considered precision weapons. ‘Pilots’ flying drone missions from secret US locations are able to treat their job like any other 9 to 5 occupation; ‘collateral damage’ is an 'unfortunate' consequence of modern American criminal warfare -- where is Geneva? The World Won't Buy Unlimited U.S. Debt
Peter Schiff via rialator, Saturday, Jan 24 2009, 8:17pm
Barack Obama has spoken often of sacrifice. And as recently as a week ago, he said that to stave off the deepening recession Americans should be prepared to face "trillion dollar deficits for years to come." But apart from a stirring call for volunteerism in his inaugural address, the only specific sacrifices the president has outlined thus far include lower taxes, millions of federally funded jobs, expanded corporate bailouts, and direct stimulus checks to consumers. Could this be described as sacrificial?

Why Bailing Out Banks Doesn't Work
Shamus Cooke via reed, Thursday, Jan 22 2009, 6:14pm
The New York Times recently posed an excellent question: “Why save banks if they won’t lend?” (January 19, 2009)
Before the first $350 billion “installment” of the bailout, we were told that the money was needed to “unfreeze” the credit markets, meaning that banks would again be willing to lend businesses the money they needed to continue doing business.
Despite hugely popular opposition, the bailout proceeded, and absolutely nothing changed.

Pipsqueak Australian PM feigns indignation
barra, Wednesday, Jan 21 2009, 11:44pm
The Australian PM, Kevin ’07,’ took a swipe at an Islamic cleric today over comments made, 5 years ago during a sermon, regarding a man’s 'Koranic right' to chastise his wife and have sex on demand. It is no secret this site views ALL religions as archaic/primitive forms of social slavery and oppression but let’s get it RIGHT Mr ‘grab-a-headline’ Rudd! Perhaps we should refer to Jewish ideology and Laws relating to RACISM in this fair land before feigning cultural indignation! (story and 2 comments and 1 image)
