Serbs vote Sunday -- national identity or dissolution
Andrew Wander via druze, Saturday, May 10 2008, 9:22am
Nis, Serbia; and Zubin Potok, Kosovo - The Serbian Radical Party's election rally in the main square of the southern town of Nis seemed, at first glance, like any other campaign event. Popular music played over the PA system. Badges and hats were sold from makeshift stalls, and families with children listened to the speakers.

Rising opposition in Europe: U.S. plans for NATO run into a wall
Sara Flounders via rialator, Saturday, May 10 2008, 6:35am
NATO held a three-day meeting in Bucharest, Romania, on April 2 to 4, attended by George W. Bush and other heads of state. It was a stormy affair. This alliance of imperialist military powers, long dominated by the U.S., was divided on several proposals being pushed by Washington. One was the proposed further expansion of NATO eastward to include Ukraine and Georgia, which were once part of the Soviet Union and sit on the border of Russia. Another was the plan to place a U.S. ballistic missile system in the Czech Republic and Poland, the heart of Europe. Another was Washington’s recognition of independence for the Serbian province of Kosovo.

Cycles of life/death: a time to Kill
major mitchell, Friday, May 9 2008, 10:55pm
Is there really a time to kill? A question that has bedevilled pacifists, philosophers, theologians and ALL sentient beings throughout the ages? I would state clearly and emphatically now that all sane humans find killing other human beings the most repugnant act possible! Killing is aberrant behaviour to the extreme and comes at huge cost for the killer, regardless of whether we/society sanction the killing -- soldiers/military, police etc -- or not! Hillary ‘obliterate Iran’ Clinton shoots self in foot
nano, Thursday, May 8 2008, 9:53am
It’s all but over for the dogged Clinton but few commentators are citing the word that finished her chances, “OBLITERATE!” A word that carries every connotation the American people are tired of. WAR is no longer a winning strategy in the USA and for very good reason! (story and 2 images)

Trilateral Commission: global elite gather in D.C.
James P. Tucker Jr. via reed, Tuesday, May 6 2008, 9:46pm
The Trilateral Commission—one of the three most powerful globalist groups in the world—held closed-door meetings right here in Washington, D.C. from April 25 to 28. True to form, those members of the media who knew about the meeting—or were themselves participants in the proceedings—refused to discuss what went on inside or report on the attendees. Luckily, AFP’s own editor, Jim Tucker, was on the scene to bust this clandestine confabulation wide open.

Pentagon Targeted Iran for Regime Change after 9/11
Gareth Porter via rialator, Tuesday, May 6 2008, 9:28pm
WASHINGTON, May 5 (IPS) - Three weeks after the 9/11 terror attacks, former U.S. Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld established an official military objective of not only removing the Saddam Hussein regime by force but overturning the regime in Iran, as well as in Syria and four other countries in the Middle East, according to a document quoted extensively in then Undersecretary of Defence for Policy Douglas Feith's recently published account of the Iraq war decisions. In Memory of Albert Hofmann and his discovery – LSD-25
quin, Monday, May 5 2008, 10:48am
Albert Hofmann died last week aged 102; his longevity may be attributed to the ‘acid’ he first synthesised in ’43 -- then again it may not, but it doesn't really matter! Reams could be written on the effects of LSD but in memory and homage to a great man and pioneer we leave the description to him. Following is an excerpt from his book, “LSD - My Problem Child:” (story and 2 images)

America: ignorance greater problem than disinformation
yarra, Sunday, May 4 2008, 11:56pm
Earlier this year I reported on a retired American high school teacher who hadn’t heard of Richard Perle, a highly influential neo-conservative responsible for much of the trouble in which America now finds itself. Imagine that level of ignorance and you will have little difficulty understanding how demented 'senior' Republicans like John McCain are able to garner support for their race for the Presidency. Social and political ignorance is endemic in the USA. The schoolteacher was not the exception but the rule!

Rich-poor divide no longer a ‘gap’ now a yawning, unbridgeable chasm
gan, Sunday, May 4 2008, 7:52am
For a very brief period in the second half of the twentieth century, ‘first world’ nations experienced relative equality. The poor could, with immense difficulty, bridge the affluence gap and become wealthy. Today everyone but the cliques and privileged insiders are shut out permanently! The world has returned to the enduring paradigm of privileged elites and everyone else; the access corridors to equity/equality have been shut tight – why share the remaining spoils and perhaps increase competition for the rapidly decreasing commodities and resources of the world? Robert Gates threatens Iran, ho hum!
finch, Thursday, May 1 2008, 8:22pm
In full view of the Iraqi holocaust and cognisant of the fact that America and Israel are the only expansionist, invasive, plundering, murdering, nations in the world today, let’s call a spade a spade. The criminal USA has deployed another aircraft carrier to the 'Persian' Gulf in a show of force and possibly to prepare for an attack on Iran – China and Russia have no illusions regarding the U.S. military build-up in the region. Uncle Sam may get a bigger shock than anticipated – aggressive warfare comes at great cost though the time of payment may not be immediate! (story and 1 image)

Spineless Australia hosts largest U.S. spy base outside continental U.S.A
Richard Neville via rialator, Wednesday, Apr 30 2008, 10:34pm
[Pine Gap, American spy base located in central Australia stands as a monument to Australian servility and cowardice. Only one Australian leader took the Americans to task over this secretive installation; he was immediately removed from power by the machinations of the CIA and their conservative Australian allies -- refer to a good Australian history book for the entire account.
Gough Whitlam wished to make Australia a nation in its own right but the Americans would have no one -- including the democratically elected Prime Minister – disturbing their plans and causing trouble in their new post WWII colony.
America replaced the British as the new colonial overlords for CRINGING, infantile Australian governments. To witness TODAY our leaders cowering like the servile dogs they are before the corrupt, inept and mass murdering Americans is truly sickening!
The following story, by Australian journalist, author and activist, Richard Neville, makes for a riveting and sobering read -- FUCK AMERICA, the scourge of the world! Ed.] (story and 2 images)

Will Serbia sell its soul for EU membership?
dragan, Tuesday, Apr 29 2008, 8:09pm
What is the EU really offering Serbia after the ICC acquitted KLA war criminal, Ramush Haradinaj, of heinous war crimes charges? It is now clear western interests seek the dissolution of the Serbian State. The West’s support of known criminals in secessionist Kosovo is additional proof of the lengths to which the West will go to (illegally) secure sovereign Serbian territories. (story and 1 image)

Nature signals calamity!
Mollie Matteson via rialator, Monday, Apr 28 2008, 8:57pm
[First the honey bees now the bats -- is anyone listening to the most important alarms? Ed.]
BATS have been dying by the thousands recently in the Northeastern United States. No one knows why, and it may be months, perhaps years, before the cause is determined. Meanwhile, scientists predict that this summer there will be a population explosion of insects, which bats normally eat in large quantities. Greater numbers of beetles and moths could mean severe and costly losses for farmers and timber producers. There could also be bigger swarms of mosquitoes and other biting bugs, which will mean more discomfort for all of us.
