Divorced from Reality
fish, Sunday, Nov 18 2007, 11:17am
The title is the most accurate description of today’s politicians – worldwide! In the face of impending global catastrophe driven by pollution-induced global warming our corporate controlled politicians maintain that monetary matters are our principal concern – NOT SO! FUTURE LIFE ON EARTH IS OUR/EVERYONE’S PRIMARY CONCERN TODAY! (story and 1 image)

Contractionism and the fear response
Kingfisher, Saturday, Nov 17 2007, 10:17pm
All mammals are susceptible to the fear response, including the dominant species, man! The fear response is characteristic of pack/herd animals and other species that exist in social groups. Clearly defined hierarchies are evident in these groups; less ‘dominant’ animals display submissive and subservient behaviours in the presence of more dominant members of the group -- and so it is with man. STOP and think for a moment!
finn, Friday, Nov 16 2007, 4:38pm
It began long before George W Bush wiped his arse with the Bill of Rights and American Constitution. It finally dawned on me while I was writing the future of mankind on a toilet roll. The American Constitution that Bush treats with disdain and contempt, begins with the classic, “WE THE PEOPLE ..,” I must apologise for being slow if this observation is obvious to all -- but the common people had nothing whatsoever to do with encoding the principles set down in America’s most venerated State documents! NSW Coroner: Balibo five murdered in cold blood
nano, Thursday, Nov 15 2007, 2:18pm
The NSW Coroner has found, in relation to the Balibo five, as follows:
FINDING – SECTION 22(1) CORONERS ACT 1980.
“Brian Raymond Peters, in the company of fellow journalists Gary James Cunningham, Malcolm Harvie Rennie, Gregory John Shackleton and Anthony John Stewart, collectively known as “the Balibo Five”, died at Balibo in Timor- Leste on 16 October 1975 from wounds sustained when he was shot and/or stabbed deliberately, and not in the heat of battle, by members of the Indonesian Special Forces, including Christoforus da Silva and Captain Yunus Yosfiah on the orders of Captain Yosfiah, to prevent him from revealing that Indonesian Special Forces had participated in the attack on Balibo. There is strong circumstantial evidence that those orders emanated from the Head of the Indonesian Special Forces, Major-General Benny Murdani to Colonel Dading Kalbuadi, Special Forces Group Commander in Timor, and then to Captain Yosfiah.” (story and 1 image and 1 attached file)

Muted Victory for Ehren Watada
Laura Flanders via rialator, Tuesday, Nov 13 2007, 8:05pm
Nov 12 --This country sets aside two days to honor military service. On Veterans Day we celebrate the living; on Memorial Day we remember the dead. I'd like to propose a third national holiday: Active Duty day. A day to celebrate those who refuse to leave their conscience at home. A day to cherish those who elevate this nation's morals by refusing to participate in illegal acts.

Tips from the ‘Text’
finch, Monday, Nov 12 2007, 11:55am
The future is Asian and for very good reason. People wonder how the West was lost and which forces led to its demise, I can put it a word, PASSION, either the abundance or the lack thereof! Think of that little scrawny Indian Mahatma who seized the popular imagination by addressing Indian emotions and the passions inherent in that culture. The result was the first popular peaceful revolution in modern history – the British lost the jewel in their global imperial crown. Many other British colonies soon followed India’s example and so ended one of the world’s most successful Empires. It continues to amaze historians how a tiny island nation was able to conquer and maintain its rule over so many vast territories and diverse populations for so long. (story and 1 image)

Australian racism and victimisation exposed YET AGAIN!
barra, Sunday, Nov 11 2007, 9:42am
The Straussian (see link) political ploy of managing entire populations with divisive, contractive, fearful, alarmist strategies is failing in exactly the same way as a previous scurrilous attempt made infamous by one Joseph McCarthy. The ‘new’ conservatives seem to have short memories or extremely inept research departments, either that or their arrogance has blinded them to the (known) consequences of their actions.

Frayed nerves: is it now cool to kill?
peptide, Saturday, Nov 10 2007, 12:27pm
We anticipated the filter-down effect of our leadership openly flouting law, order and morality. Yes, we refer to the Iraq holocaust and the anticipated illegal or manufactured need to attack Iran. We shouldn’t forget the new American century’s torture/concentration camp of Guantanamo Bay and the many other illegal torture centres scattered around the world all run at the behest of the USA and its criminal allies. Yes siree, Bob, WE HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BY GOD TO COMMIT CRIMES – just ask any bible-bashing U.S. citizen. [And you thought Islamists were nuts!] Criminal ‘divine’ forces propel the rogue American nation to infect the world with violence, murder and MAYHEM; that is current REALITY regardless of mass complacency and denial! A Market Without Parachutes
Mike Whitney via rialator, Thursday, Nov 8 2007, 8:47pm
America is finished, washed up, kaput. Foreign investors and central banks around the world have lost confidence in US markets and are headed for the exits. The dollar is sinking, the country is insolvent, and its leaders are barking mad. That’s bad for business. Investors are voting with their feet. They’ve had enough. Capital is flowing to China and the Far East in a torrent. It’s "sayonara" Manhattan and “Hello” Tiananmen Square.

7 Countries Considering Abandoning the US Dollar
Jessica Hupp via rialator, Wednesday, Nov 7 2007, 10:30pm
It’s no secret that the dollar is on a downward spiral. Its value is dropping, and the Fed isn’t doing a whole lot to change that. As a result, a number of countries are considering a shift away from the dollar to preserve their assets. These are seven of the countries currently considering a move from the dollar, and how they’ll have an effect on its value and the US economy.

Dragons and other Crises
quin, Wednesday, Nov 7 2007, 6:45am
Since the South Asian earthquake and ensuing tsunami the Indonesian Archipelago has continued on its very unstable geological course. Every week geophysicists are treated to more rumblings from the earth’s crust. All things being connected in the geophysical sense, it is highly likely that recent volcanic activity in one area of the ‘ring of fire’ will unleash catastrophic forces on the other side of the world – in areas that have high density city populations. I am referring to the release of thousands of megatons of energy the destructive power of which makes a nuclear blast equivalent to a fireworks display. (story and 1 comment and 3 images)

'Amazing Grace'
Charles Sullivan via rialator, Tuesday, Nov 6 2007, 10:43am
It seems inexplicable that so many of the American people can be so dazed and confused, while moral degenerates ransack our nation, piss and defecate upon the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, and brazenly loot the public domain, making a mockery of the rule of law and societal norms; whatever they may be.

The Presidency is now a Criminal Conspiracy

SPECIAL COMMENT
By Keith Olbermann
Anchor, 'Countdown'
updated 6:42 p.m. PT, Mon., Nov. 5, 2007
It is a fact startling in its cynical simplicity and it requires cynical and simple words to be properly expressed: The presidency of George W. Bush has now devolved into a criminal conspiracy to cover the ass of George W. Bush.

Reining in the Rogue
quill, Monday, Nov 5 2007, 11:22am
After years of criticisms, analysis and debate, the Iraq situation has only worsened. Furthermore, the world can expect an attack on Iran before the current US regime leaves office. We have all been distracted by clever commentary, ‘exposures,’ ENDLESS TALK and a very compliant media. What is lacking, however, is ACTION and that is NO ACCIDENT! (story and 2 comments and 1 image)

The Great Debate of 2008
Jerry W. Sanders via reed, Saturday, Nov 3 2007, 10:49pm
If ever the time was right for a Great Debate on America's purpose and place in the world, that time is now. But if early auditions leading up to primary season are any indication, the top contenders are either not up to the task or unwilling to take on the challenge of correcting the current course of failure in US foreign policy. Despite America's dire standing in the world and the President's record low approval ratings at home, leading Republican candidates have made it clear that they will deviate little from the geopolitics of fear and fantasy that have marked the Bush years. And while Democratic front-runners are quick to denounce the folly of the war in Iraq--at least in its execution--they appear reluctant to take on the worldview and logic from which it was manufactured and continues to be sold in anticipation of yet new adventures. So far, in shades too reminiscent of 2004, Democrats act as if the White House is theirs for the taking if only they can avoid missteps and duck charges of "weakness."

Dunlavey: Guantanamo Mission Came Straight From Bush, Rumsfeld

The sun sets early on the American Century
Philip S Golub via reed, Saturday, Nov 3 2007, 12:47pm
The ‘American Century’ only began 60 years ago. But it seems already to be over, with the disaster of Iraq forcing some of the United States’ ruling elites to realise that its hegemony has been severely weakened. But nobody seems to know what to do next, or even how to behave.
