Tight as a Drum: APEC security may overwhelm Itself
Mel Bourne, Thursday, Aug 23 2007, 9:53pm
Professionals are expressing concern at Sydney’s over zealous approach to APEC security. Word has it that protesters and associated groups have been briefed to make their most dynamic ‘statement’ during a planned diversionary tactic guaranteed to trigger a cacophony of responses from authorities, local and international! Once should be enough
Kingfisher, Wednesday, Aug 22 2007, 12:36pm
How many times must criminals in government BE EXPOSED before they ARE EXPOSED? That is the question today. Inept, deceptive and criminal conservative governments from Bush to Howard have been exposed for criminal activities and incompetence so many times this writer has lost count yet not one senior official has been jailed! Executive and legislative powers in the hands of criminals subvert every aspect of honest government. From the Libby presidential pardon in the US to the scapegoating of Haneef in Oz, governments reek of total corruption and abuse of power. The people may have had enough -- will the culpable finally be brought to justice? (story and 1 comment)

Haneef visa reinstated: costs awarded against government
nano, Monday, Aug 20 2007, 11:00am
Australian justice prevails against racist Howard government and lackey immigration minister, Kevin Andrews. The retrogressive Howard government has been given a clear and firm message from the Australian people via the Legal system. Howard has done more to damage Oz’s good name in the international arena than any Australian Prime Minister in modern history. Howard and his contractive, backward looking, divisive policies have unnecessarily compromised all Australians who travel and serve their nation overseas. Perhaps the most effective healing gesture for the nation would be to completely remove all vestiges of Howard’s presence from the political landscape; the forthcoming elections provide the perfect opportunity for all Australians to clearly state their opposition to regressive, inward-looking, contractive conservatism. High pressure water cannon for APEC
gan, Sunday, Aug 19 2007, 12:41pm
The NSW Premier, Morris ‘il Duce’ Iemma, has approved of the use of a dangerous high pressure water cannon for the APEC summit. This weapon has been known to blind by tearing eyeballs from skull sockets, but why let minor details like maiming the public interfere with a meeting of mass murderers, polluters and thieves, notwithstanding the assault on Australian values by an Italian fascist! CLIMATE CHANGE: Deniers Jump on NASA Gaffe, While Greenland on Verge of Meltdown
Stephen Leahy via reed, Thursday, Aug 16 2007, 11:31pm
TORONTO, Aug 16 (IPS) - Scientists warn that climate change tipping points are imminent, and will lead to potentially catastrophic events like a seven-metre sea level rise. Meanwhile, conservatives in the North American media are focusing on a NASA admission of a climate calculation error. (story and 1 comment and 2 images)

Freefalling markets, energy wars and domestic collapse
major mitchell, Thursday, Aug 16 2007, 1:53pm
Take your pick of failures and debacles conservatives have created on the home front and around the globe. They are numerous and severe but perhaps the most understated and most dangerous are attempts by neo-conservative forces to command the rich resources of Central Asia. It’s a long way from home, Uncle; the advantage and strength always lies with the locals (SCO group) and the Sino-Russian military alliance. This is THEIR region and as would be expected any attempts by foreign forces to invade will be resisted to the death – who would not fight foreign invaders from the other side of the world that would threaten home, family and prosperity? Will there be a run on the banks?
Mike Whitney via rialator, Sunday, Aug 12 2007, 11:51pm
On Friday, the Dow Jone’s clawed its way back from a 200 point deficit to a mere 31 point loss after the Federal Reserve injected $38 billion into the banking system. The Fed had already pumped $24 billion into the system a day earlier after the Dow plummeted 387 points. That brings the Fed’s total commitment to a whopping $62 billion. (story and 1 comment)

Conservatism and anal retention
fish, Saturday, Aug 11 2007, 2:06pm
Conservatives throughout the world are only distinguished by the ‘colour of their shirts.’ Islamist contractionism pursues (fascist) central control in the form of a Caliphate. American contractionism is pursuing (totalitarianism) surveillance and the reduction of liberties and freedoms at speed. Here in Oz the minister for communications is attempting to implement information controls in the form of filtering Internet material at backbone or ISP level. Regardless of the area of ‘concern’ ALL conservatives SEEK TO GAIN CONTROL and impose their realities onto everyone! The means vary from theocratic coercion, legal subversions to brutal enforcement and violent implementations, whether the rest of us like it or not. No shortage of anal contractionists exists anywhere in the world today – the amusing thing is watching the same sickness manifest in various cultural forms. (story and 1 comment)

China’s 'Nuclear Option' is real
Paul Craig Roberts via rialator, Friday, Aug 10 2007, 1:53pm
Twenty-four hours after I reported China’s announcement that China, not the Federal Reserve, controls US interest rates by its decision to purchase, hold, or dump US Treasury bonds, the news of the announcement appeared in sanitized and unthreatening form in a few US news sources.
The Washington Post found an economics professor at the University of Wisconsin to provide reassurances that it was “not really a credible threat” that China would intervene in currency or bond markets in any way that could hurt the dollar’s value or raise US interest rates, because China would hurt its own pocketbook by such actions. The Lackey and the President
yarra, Friday, Aug 10 2007, 12:46pm
George Bush demonstrates his sovereignty over his newest colonial acquisition, Australia! Bush has thrown the highly coordinated security plans for the APEC summit in Sydney into disarray by arriving two days earlier than was previously arranged. The chaos and disruption this ill-considered change in plans will cause will be enormous. But what choice does a lackey prime minister and a subservient population have? The King of America and colonies, Iraq and Australia, has spoken and we can but find joy in licking Bush’s arse! (story and 1 comment and 1 image)

BBQ Chicken
dada, Thursday, Aug 9 2007, 1:16am
I usually pick up a BBQ Chicken at the end of the week, more from a need to avoid cooking than as a treat. I hadn’t seen the shop assistant who served me before, he was very particular about which chicken I selected, he gently prodded a few, very gently turned a few over all the while commenting on moisture content, texture and oven position. Very dedicated I thought as I pointed to a small plump chicken. The attendant smiled approvingly at my selection. As he placed the chicken in a take-away BBQ bag he gave me a knowing wink and said, “good selection, the pretty ones are not for eating." He then ritualistically handed the bag to me with both hands as if making an offering. Very odd behaviour I thought as I headed for the fresh vegetable section to obtain salad ingredients. Murdoch blunders with Bloggers
gan, Tuesday, Aug 7 2007, 12:13am
A blunder of truly huge proportions is uncharacteristic of master media manipulator/mogul Rupert Murdoch. Allowing his Fox news ‘attack dog,’ Bill (bow wow) O’Reilly to attack something he has no hope of either influencing or overcoming is a gross miscalculation. The blogosphere is becoming the first choice for news and opinion for many readers tired of the fabricated fantasies and thin propaganda the mass media constantly spews at the public.

Hacking Capitalism
Andy Greenberg via Kismo, Monday, Aug 6 2007, 10:28pm
LAS VEGAS -- Lost seconds mean lost dollars on Wall Street. But the race for faster transactions risks security disaster.
Employees of banks could shut down computers that make quick arbitrage trades across markets, using denial-of-service attacks to overwhelm servers and potentially cause millions in losses. Ultra-fast electronic trades may be especially vulnerable to sabotage. And the need for speed has made things worse -- with financial institutions avoiding software security features that might cause crucial millisecond delays.

When 2nd is preferable
major mitchell, Sunday, Aug 5 2007, 9:47pm
Few wish to be second in any type of endeavour; however, there is one occasion, among few others, where it is imperative to be second; and that is when a nation desires to detonate a nuclear weapon -- or more precisely, use nuclear weaponry in circumstances/conflicts that do NOT warrant their use. A little leak/rumour has it that a “dirty nuke” is to be detonated in the continental USA in order to justify the use of “bunker busters” on Iran and other areas of conflict. (story and 2 images)

The democratic prerogative: whose world?
fish, Sunday, Aug 5 2007, 1:11pm
What did you expect?
If you place liars and criminals in government do you expect justice and peace, or war, plunder and destruction? There is NOT one honest person today that leads a nation – all are corrupt, do you expect honesty and integrity from sewer rats? Liars and jackals reign supreme and occupy all the seats of power; do you expect consideration, fair treatment or cynicism and deception?

Stock Market Meltdown
Mike Whitney via rialator, Saturday, Aug 4 2007, 11:31pm
On Friday the Dow Jones took a 280 point nosedive on fears that that losses in the subprime market will spill over into the broader economy and cut into GDP. Ever since the two Bears Sterns hedge funds folded a couple weeks ago the stock market has been writhing like a drug-addict in a detox-cell. Yesterday’s sell-off added to last week’s plunge that wiped out $2.1 trillion in value from global equity markets. New York investment guru, Jim Rogers said that the real market is “one of the biggest bubbles we’ve ever had in credit” and that the subprime rout “has a long way to go.”

Return of the Robber Barons
Paul Craig Roberts via rialator, Thursday, Aug 2 2007, 11:41am
Anyone who imagined that grubby little racist and U.S. lackey John (despicable coward) Howard, had an original thought in his head read the following article relating to the U.S. and remove all doubts regarding Howard's status as slave to Bush, importer of the unfair U.S. labour system, lackey to the Corporations, especially the criminal directors and CEOs. Read, learn and discover for yourself the American lackey that Howard really is. Never in Oz history has the nation witnessed a Prime Minister surrender the entire nation and culture to a foreign power – treason would not be too strong a word! (story and 2 images)
