Oklahoma bombing conspirator claim
Pamela Manson via rialator, Thursday, Mar 1 2007, 8:07am
Much is being made of laws instituted after the Oklahoma bombing and the Hicks prosecution. The American prosecutors of David Hicks and the Australian Attorney General, Philip Ruddock, have made reference to these laws in relation to the Hicks case.
The following article from The Salt Lake Tribune today throws new light on the original bombing. At the very least these claims need to be fully investigated, as the resulting additions to American Law are now instrumental in the prosecution of the Australian citizen, David Hicks. American Torture on Trial
Naomi Klein via rialator, Monday, Feb 26 2007, 9:07pm
February 26, 2007 -- Something remarkable is going on in a Miami courtroom. The cruel methods US interrogators have used since September 11 to "break" prisoners are finally being put on trial. This was not supposed to happen. The Bush Administration's plan was to put José Padilla on trial for allegedly being part of a network linked to international terrorists. But Padilla's lawyers are arguing that he is not fit to stand trial because he has been driven insane by the government. (story and 2 images)

The US, the world's hedge fund
Max Fraad Wolff via rialator, Monday, Feb 26 2007, 11:00am
There are some strange facts about the asset and trade positions of the US economy in the globalizing economy. The United States runs massive and growing trade deficits, is borrowing at a clip that would arouse the suspicions of a casino pit boss, and has been selling its assets to anyone who will buy. In the past 24 months, the US balance on goods and services comes in just shy of negative-$1.5 trillion. Across the same period, the US has sunk further into debt to the rest of the world.

US funds terror groups to sow chaos in Iran
William Lowther and Colin Freeman via rialator, Sunday, Feb 25 2007, 8:19pm
America is secretly funding militant ethnic separatist groups in Iran in an attempt to pile pressure on the Islamic regime to give up its nuclear programme.
In a move that reflects Washington's growing concern with the failure of diplomatic initiatives, CIA officials are understood to be helping opposition militias among the numerous ethnic minority groups clustered in Iran's border regions.

When Superpowers go Rogue
peptide, Sunday, Feb 25 2007, 12:52pm
History records instances of powerful, belligerent nations invading and annexing weaker nations in their bid for world domination and plunder. Various pretexts are utilised to justify these attacks/invasions, the most familiar and infamous are the USS Liberty attack, the Tonkin Gulf incident and more recently the imaginary WMD 'threat'. These examples have one thing in common; they are all orchestrated in order to harness the public as a manageable resource to be used and abused by prevailing powers and to justify an otherwise illegal invasion or military aggression. Nations bent on world domination are extremely predictable; world domination is the folly of a powerful military and inept leadership – history is familiar with a multitude of conquering clowns known to us today as mass murderers. The long-awaited meeting of the foreign ministers of India, China and Russia in New Delhi on February 14, was, at one level, merely the latest in a series of trilateral meetings at this level held annually since 2002, generally on the margins of multilateral gatherings. (story and 1 image)

Cheney’s speech at Sydney’s Shangri-la Hotel
finn, Thursday, Feb 22 2007, 10:45am
The American Vice-President, Dick Cheney, today delivered his only address to the ‘public’ at the plush Shangri-la Hotel. He will later meet with servile Defence Minister, Brendan Nelson, opposition leader Kevin Rudd and other minor government officials at Victoria Barracks, Paddington. The symbolism of Cheney’s visit in the last days of neo-conservative rule is not lost on Australians; the absence of Prime Minister, John Howard, from the venue was the most notable aspect of the event! Preparing for Cheney
finch, Wednesday, Feb 21 2007, 9:05am
See how Australian conservatives run! “No Australian should be surprised. In fact I would like to think they would support it ... The people who murdered 100 Australians in Bali trained in this place with these people and that's why we're there." The statement by the Australian Defence Minister, Brendan Nelson, is the latest despicable attempt to garner support and justify increased Australian military involvement in Afghanistan – the truth is the Howard government is at the beck and call of the Americans, that is why ‘we’ are in Afghanistan, Mr. Nelson. The Defence Minister, in preparation for Dick Cheney’s arrival in Sydney tonight, has resorted to flagrant LIES and K-Mart political tactics to demonstrate to Cheney that Australian conservatives are able emulators of their master’s cheap tricks and lying political methods. Blair’s withdrawal ensures Iran Attack
nano, Tuesday, Feb 20 2007, 7:54am
Today’s sudden announcement of troop withdrawal by Bush’s poodle, Tony Blair, portends a grim future for Iran. Faced with ruination and possible war crimes trials, the tattered remnants of the coalition of willing criminals will no doubt resort to desperate acts in a futile attempt to fulfil their agenda and create further chaos. Instability and perpetual WAR is the ideology of neo-conservatives – have no doubt that America and/or its few remaining allies (Israel) will soon attack Iran. (story and 1 image)

Information Warfare, Psy-ops and the Power of Myth
Mike Whitney via rialator, Friday, Feb 16 2007, 12:24pm
The Pentagon’s bold new approach to psychological operations (psy-ops) appears to have derived from the theories of former State Dept official, Philip Zelikow (who also served on the 9-11 Commission) Zelikow is an expert on “the creation and maintenance of ‘public myths’ or ‘public presumptions’. His theory analyzes how consciousness is shaped by “searing events” which take on “transcendent importance” and, therefore, move the public in the direction chosen by the policymakers. For Neocons, an Attack on Iran Has Been a Six-Year Project
Larisa Alexandrovna via rialator, Monday, Feb 12 2007, 8:26pm
The escalation of US military planning on Iran is only the latest chess move in a six-year push within the Bush Administration to attack that country. While Iran was named a part of President George W. Bush's "axis of evil" in 2002, efforts to ignite a confrontation with Iran date back long before the post-9/11 war on terror. Australian PM criticises Barack Obama
nano, Saturday, Feb 10 2007, 10:14am
John Howard, known internationally as a Bush lackey, shameless coward, racist and abandoner of Australian citizens, today levelled a criticism at U.S. Presidential candidate, Barack Obama. The ‘aluminium tubing’ Prime Minister stated that Obama’s Iraq policy would “completely destabilise and destroy Iraq”. Howard seems ‘completely’ oblivious to the FACT that his participation in the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq has ALREADY COMPLETELY DESTABILISED AND DESTROYED Iraq! What’s the Death Toll, Mr. Bush?
peptide, Friday, Feb 9 2007, 11:29am
The ever increasing, unmentionable death toll of U.S. military expansionism in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and elsewhere exceeds one million souls. The human casualties have achieved unification and consensus at last! The slogan of death is unutterable, perfectly silent and devastatingly effective! Devoid of tribe, nation, race, religion and every other divisive factor that contributed to their demise, all humans are united in death – they are finished! In death there are no ideologies, 'critical issues' or causes. (story and 2 images)

Chinese Smile vs American Gun
Kwang zi, Wednesday, Feb 7 2007, 8:25am
China's President Hu Jintao re-establishes trade links with Africa vowing not to interfere with the sovereign rights of African nations. The net result of this soft approach is African nations clamouring to the Chinese whose trade links with Africa extend thousands of years into the past. Archaeologists have uncovered the remains of large African port cities containing artefacts and trade material from China and Africa. Large amounts of ceramics, ivory, gems, precious metals and a wealth of other artefacts reveal a long history of lively and thriving two-way trade between the two continents. (story and 2 images)

The Army's case against him collapsed at trial, and it eventually wiped his record clean and gave the West Point graduate an honorable discharge. (story and 1 comment)

Balibo Murderer Implicates Indonesian Government
dingo, Monday, Feb 5 2007, 1:40pm
Yunus Yosfiah, former Indonesian government minister and commander of Kopassus, the elite government sanctioned hit squad functioning as part of the Indonesian military, has been formally identified by an eyewitness as the person who initiated the cold-blooded murder of five Australian journalists in East Timor in 1975. Not mentioned in recent reports is the exact order Yosfiah issued to his troops. Indonesian troops were extremely reluctant to fire on five unarmed Australian non-combatants, who had openly surrendered. [Then] Captain Yunus Yosfiah, issued the murderous order, “don’t think, just shoot”, before he commenced firing on the unarmed Australian journalists! (story and 2 comments and 1 image)
