'Ploughshares' to Support Pine Gap Defendants
Ciaron via MIM, Thursday, Sep 28 2006, 6:49am
A couple of months ago our Pit Stop Ploughshares community was acquitted of $US2.5million damage to a U.S. war plane at Shannon Airport, Ireland. I'm presently heading to Alice Springs to support the Pine Gap resisters.
In December '05, six anti-war activist friends made the 3,000 km long trek through the Austalian Outback to the secret Pine Gap NSA Base near Alice Springs in the Northern Terrirory. They transported themselves in a van converted to run on recyled fish and chip oil. They had written to a number outback fish and chip shops and asked them to save them their used oil, some did! U.S. Intelligence Agencies Discover Open Secret
budgie, Tuesday, Sep 26 2006, 2:57pm
I shouldn’t be so harsh on the Americans; it took me years to discover I had a nose on my face but I was at a disadvantage, there is only one of me. Imagine the cost (tax payer’s money) involved in maintaining not one bloated ‘intelligence’ agency, but sixteen! After a period of three years, sixteen U.S. intelligence agencies have finally determined the sky is blue, people have noses on their faces and that the illegal Iraq intervention increased the ‘terrorist’ threat – bravo! [Where do I sign, that’s the job for me, or are these agencies selective basket cases – incompetent relatives, banjo players and those owed favours only need apply?]

Axis of Sketchy Allies
Maureen Dowd via rialator, Friday, Sep 22 2006, 5:20pm
Pakistan is at the heart of the Faustian deal the Bush administration has made.
It helps to plug your book at the White House.
After Pervez Musharraf coyly sidestepped a question at a news conference with President Bush about his claim on “60 Minutes” that Richard Armitage threatened to bomb Pakistan back to the Stone Age if it did not cooperate in routing the Taliban in Afghanistan, noting that he had to save such juicy tidbits for his book’s publication next week, he shot up over 1,000 spots on Amazon.com. Nothing Right
peptide, Friday, Sep 22 2006, 5:40am
The one glaring undeniable fact regarding the Bush administration is it has failed in ALL its endeavours – in other words, the Bush regime has done nothing right. The latest incidence of neo-con incompetence involves John Bolton and Condoleezza Rice; their new tactical strategy for 'implementing peace' in the Middle East is inaction! The conflict in South Lebanon revealed the essential ideology/philosophy of the neo-cons – not only [to], ‘GIVE WAR A CHANCE; but also, WAR IS THE ANSWER’! [Thank you John Lennon.]

Divisionism is Death
finch, Wednesday, Sep 20 2006, 6:52am
A well-known method of subjugation utilised by conquerors and rulers alike is, “divide and conquer”; this strategy applies equally in times of war and peace. It may surprise many but this method remains the principal means of social control in today’s western societies. The primary divisive structure today is the (separate, ‘closed-door’) nuclear family and the principal divided unit is the psychically isolated, competitive individual. [It should be noted that the ‘individual’, as distinct from the group, is a relatively recent social creation.] (story and 2 images)

Maghaberry POWs undertake 72 hour fast
Seán Ó Murchú, Monday, Sep 18 2006, 2:14pm
Maghaberry POWs undertake 72 hour fast.
Republican POWs in Maghaberry Gaol will commence a 72-hour fast on Tuesday, 19th September. The situation in Maghaberry has now reached crisis point. A representative of the Archbishop of Armagh met with the prisoners last Tuesday, however conditions in the gaol have not improved.
The Republican Prisoners’ Action Group has organised a picket in Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, on Saturday, 23rd September at 1:30p.m. and calls on everyone to support the demands of the Republican prisoners.
The RPAG has also lauched a website at URL: http://www.freewebs.com/powstatusnow (story and 2 comments)

Contagious or Related: Ratzinger Succumbs
peptide, Friday, Sep 15 2006, 4:40pm
Not to be backgrounded in world affairs, the new Hitler youth Pope of Rome, Ratzinger (by any other name) spouted his ultra-right-wing divisionist diatribes to the world today – are there any Muslims out there? Ratzinger’s highly inflammatory references to a previous crusading Pope’s diatribes against Islam were intended to inform the world that he has not forgotten his Nazi past, Ratzinger has left little doubt as to what he really represents – there is no cause for concern, however, as he is in ‘good’ company; neo-cons, Zionists and other ultra-conservative groups welcomed confirmation from the Pope that he is one of them. Ratzinger’s credentials as a representative of his God and saviour, the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, were left wanting – papal integrity plummeted to new depths today. (story and 1 image)

BYU places '9/11 truth' professor on paid leave
Tad Walch via rialator, Thursday, Sep 14 2006, 7:45am
PROVO — Brigham Young University placed physics professor Steven Jones on paid leave Thursday while it reviews his involvement in the so-called "9/11 truth movement" that accuses unnamed government agencies of orchestrating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. (story and 2 images)

The Impending Collapse of Zionism
Kathleen Christison via rialator, Wednesday, Sep 13 2006, 4:47am
Is it only observers outside the conventional mainstream who have noticed that by its murderous assault on Lebanon and simultaneously on Gaza, Israel finally exposed, for even the most deluded to see, the total bankruptcy of its very founding idea?

Disturbing Implications: Something in the Air
Ibis, Tuesday, Sep 12 2006, 6:37am
‘Siberia and today’s arctic regions of Canada will be the future breadbaskets of the world.’ I read this forecast in the sixties and immediately scoffed at the prediction. The guy who made these predictions is either nuts, a charlatan, or both, I thought. The regions referred to are renowned for their permafrost, and aside from some mosses, lichens and ‘summer’ grasses, there is no way those areas could yield a viable supply of food for “the world” – that was then! NEO-CON IMPERIALISM OR APOCALYPSE NOW?
Darren Owen, Friday, Sep 8 2006, 4:30pm
It appears that the greater majority of the American public have not kept pace with the rapidly developing neo-con “Bush Doctrine” of pre-emptive military strikes against sovereign states as laid out in last Septembers National Security Strategy. A strategy expressly forbidden and outlawed in the Geneva Convention and Nuremberg Treaty but long sought after by neo-cons seeking a global American empire predicated on military force. A doctrine that establishes the unquestioned sovereignty of the United States over any an all international laws while subjecting all other sovereign states to yield to the power of its military might. As James Kurth of Swarthmore College recently stated in an article in the National Interest, “Today there is only one empire, the global empire of the United States.” (story and 1 comment)

9/11: The "Unifying Myth" for the War on Terror
Mike Whitney via rialator, Friday, Sep 8 2006, 4:20pm
To a large extent, the war on terror is a shabby promotional scheme designed to mobilize the nation for a permanent state of war while curtailing civil liberties. There’s nothing original in this analysis, but it does explain the importance of media as a vehicle for Bush’s public relations campaign. It also explains why high-ranking officials in the administration are still provided unlimited air-time to reiterate the same bland bromides over and over again without being challenged.

The Enemy is You!
finn, Wednesday, Sep 6 2006, 8:20am
It is becoming more evident each day; the real target of new draconian laws and policies is not the (fabricated) terrorist ‘threat’, it is the domestic population – the enemy is you! The initial indicator (for this writer) was Section 543 of the Australian Defence Forces manual, which describes attack strategies against civilians and local populations – it should not be forgotten that Australia is a micro version and imitator of the USA and to a lesser extent the UK. War is Not a Solution for Terrorism
Howard Zinn via rialator, Saturday, Sep 2 2006, 7:12am
There is something important to be learned from the recent experience of the United States and Israel in the Middle East: that massive military attacks, inevitably indiscriminate, are not only morally reprehensible, but useless in achieving the stated aims of those who carry them out.

Why I am a 'Terrorist'
Charles Sullivan via rialator, Saturday, Sep 2 2006, 7:08am
According to the twisted logic recently espoused by Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, the failure to support illegal, immoral and unnecessary wars defines one as a terrorist. Let me be clear about where I stand: I know who the real terrorists are, and can name each one of them—Rumsfeld among the rest.

If not Now, when?
finch, Friday, Sep 1 2006, 10:48am
Surely it is time to restore intelligent, sane, Democratic secular government throughout the world! Over the past eight years we have all had a taste of the simplistic binary ‘us or them’ logic of religionists; the reality is that the majority of people on the planet reject religious divisionism and the associated violent ‘solutions’ of criminals, liars, demented murderers and delusional fools. Hizbullah's victory has transformed the Middle East
George Galloway in Beirut, Thursday, Aug 31 2006, 4:32pm
As the smoke clears from the battlefield of the 34-day war in Lebanon, it would be a mistake to count the cost only in fallen masonry and fresh graves. All is changed, changed utterly, by the defeat that the whole of Israel is now debating, from the cabinet through the lively press to the embittered reservists at the falafel stall. Practically the only person in the world who claims Israel won the war is George Bush - and we all know his definition of the words "mission accomplished".

The Information Revolution and Post-Modern Warfare
Steven Metz via rialator, Tuesday, Aug 29 2006, 6:11pm
This is a fascinating paper for analysts, strategists, activists, hackers, political bloggers and numerous others. Written in 2000 it has already proven prophetic regarding proxy wars; States imitating the methodologies of organised crime; the increasing privatisation of warfare and much much more.
It also serves as a window into the workings of the inept U.S. and Israeli administrations. Both regimes confuse wishful thinking and dissociative rhetoric with post-modern warfare; we refer to the Bush, "mission accomplished", statement and the dissociative Olmert announcement that the 'Hezbollah infrastructure has been completely destroyed'.
This paper is a revealing document invaluable to those who oppose all forms of totalitarian rule -- know your enemy!
