Consider the war in Lebanon a test scenario, a ‘dry run’ to test the international response to flagrant criminal actions. Now recall Russia’s failure to support Yugoslavia in the Balkans. Russia stalled and now Yugoslavia is no more, just a number of fragmented pseudo States overseen by NATO and the largest U.S. base of occupation in Europe, camp Bondsteel. It is well known today that the USA wouldn’t have dared if Russia had supported its traditional ally, but a drunken fool, Boris Yeltsin, was in command at the time, the rest is history. The solution today is as it should have been then – stop the invader with a confederation of nations opposed to the war. It stops! It's interesting too if anyone has read Antonio Negri's Multitude since he spends some time talking about the State and Capital trying to adopt decentralized warfare. War Crime: Preposterous!

Indirectly confirmed by John Bolton, U.S. Ambassador to the UN (and sociopath) in a public statement; the first casualty of war is LANGUAGE – the needless slaughter of innocent children in Qana by an Israeli airstrike was an “accident of war!” In the face of an obvious war crime it is now incumbent on the Bush regime, especially its representatives Bolton and Rice, to define the rules of engagement and what constitutes a war crime. We do not forget how quick the U.S. and NATO were to condemn war crimes in the Balkan conflict – it would seem that allies of the U.S. (Israel) are immune; their obvious crimes become tragic ‘accidents’ whereas those opposed to the U.S. are war criminals and liable to indefinite incarceration (‘Torture’ Bay) or trial in an ‘independent’ court at the Hague. The people are once again faced with a very real opportunity to act and change the status quo. The USA has abandoned its traditional 'act' of peacekeeper in the Middle East. Two clear prerogatives present themselves in the face of ongoing hostilities, a people’s movement or another nation filling the vacuum left by the U.S. (which has tragically become an involved party in the conflict). How many times must the opportunity for Peace go begging?

The middle of the twentieth century was the last occasion a belligerent nation stunned the world with violent military invasions. The major powers watched passively while a rogue military nation boldly occupied a number of sovereign states; the excuses offered by the aggressor at that time are similar to the inanities and diatribes the world is offered today by Israel and the U.S. However, some would make the distinction that the comments made by John Bolton and Condoleezza Rice are even less believable than the mendacious propaganda of Dr. Joseph Goebbels. The USA has forfeited any claim it may have had on moral leadership as a result of its failure to respond in a timely and appropriate fashion to the Middle East crisis. It has also lost the initiative in all matters international. Other nations have been forced to respond to the crisis in the face of U.S. incompetence. The following poem is an expression of disgust at the cold-blooded callousness and disregard for human life openly displayed by the USA and Israel. Slow Motion Diplomacy: Rice and Matza Balls

Condoleezza Rice (finally) announced that she would visit the war torn Middle East in the near future – let’s not rush to the assistance of innocent civilians and perhaps even prevent a humanitarian disaster! Rice also dismissed any hope of brokering an immediate cease-fire. She added that negotiating a cease-fire would be counter-productive at present! The international community has noted America’s lethargy and unwillingness to act in the present circumstances. The world is aware however that Israel would not have pursued its present hostile course without prior consent from Washington; Rice’s inaction and firm dismissal of any hope of a brokered cease-fire spells very clearly the relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv. The Concept of Innocence in Today’s World

This short paper does not pretend to a thorough analysis, however, it is hoped that the few indications would suffice both to verify assertions and to indicate a rich direction for further research.
Innocence implies a lack of guilt or blamelessness; the images humans readily associate with the concept of innocence are those of infants, suckling babes, children and the newborn. A species tends to identify and place value on itself. In contrast to instinctive emotions we have the superimposition of cultural values/demands. Religion is the traditional repository and medium of constructed/cultural values. A cursory analysis would reveal that cultural values are not usually compatible with strong instinctive emotions. The value placed on the lives of defenceless children, infants and the newborn will be the criteria utilised to easily prove our assertions. (story and 2 comments)

I have recently discovered that donning a cleaner’s garb or waiter’s apron is a passport to a wealth of knowledge. A very rich harvest of information is available to every non-descript person in a service industry. A typical but dated example (I do not wish to compromise my current activities) would be an overheard conversation between two bankers regarding the then new strategy of reducing (their) costs while simultaneously narrowing the options/freedoms of the population. The banks and other large financial institutions decided that it would be far more expedient and profitable to run their businesses utilising a strategy of perpetual debt rather than temporary debt. ‘Joe and Josephine’ citizen were about to become perpetual debtors or economic slaves.

The Irish State has passed, since 2002 a raft of legislations that are anti-citizen and anti-community. This has resulted in community and ecological activists taking a frontline defence aginst the incursion of capitalism. The issue for us as a community now is protection and stewarding our environment or bowing to what has been exposed as a form of cultural debasement wherein the state and elitists have attempted to divorce community from their heritage that is rich with stories, ideas and poetry.
