Glowing in the Dark
cleaves, Thursday, Mar 9 2006, 11:58am
The prospect of Iran developing a nuclear capability (which would realistically entail at least a five-year time frame) did not prevent John Bolton, US representative to the UN, stating that a “painful” response would be inflicted on Iran if it failed to comply with UN (American) dictates! Questions of the UN’s independence aside, is the focus on Iran a distraction from the debacle that is Iraq or is the USA following their PNAC strategy with little regard for consequences? US journalists targeted by Totalitarian Bush regime
nann, Tuesday, Mar 7 2006, 4:27am
Bush and his ultra-right honchos are really pissed this time – in their efforts to track down a US loyalist, who spilt the beans on domestic spying, the Bush gestapo are now targeting journos and the free press. All the ‘security’ agencies at this megalomaniac’s disposal have been commandeered for the task. This attack on the free press is yet another devastating blow directed at the already battered body of American democracy and liberty. America, the home of the brave and the land of the free, has been relegated to the historical record. This new land is an abominable aberration of the original.
“..and we all shine on..” – in the dark!
[History does record that the American Revolution was won by a brave and fearless people – they are without doubt in extremely short supply today!]

Bush Go Home
Arundhati Roy, Tuesday, Feb 28 2006, 12:05pm
On his triumphalist tour of this part of the world, where he hopes to wave imperiously at people he considers potential subjects, President Bush's itinerary is getting curiouser and curiouser. For his March 2 pit stop in New Delhi, the Indian government tried very hard to have him address our Parliament. A not inconsequential number of MPs threatened to heckle him, so Plan One was hastily shelved. Plan Two was that he address the masses from the ramparts of the magnificent Red Fort where the Indian prime minister traditionally delivers his Independence Day address. But the Red Fort, surrounded as it is by the predominantly Muslim population of Old Delhi, was considered a security nightmare. So now we're into Plan Three: President George Bush speaks from Purana Qila, the Old Fort. (story and 1 comment and 1 image)

Compromised US Military Considers Nuclear Option
peptide, Tuesday, Feb 21 2006, 4:21pm
Arab fighters and insurgents have demonstrated to the world that the US is a ‘superpower’ in name only. A poorly armed and trained but highly motivated and dedicated band of fighters has exposed the US military as weak, inept, unskilled, brutal and bereft. From South America to the Himalayas, resistance against capitalist plunder and exploitation signals the inevitable failure of militaristic capitalism. Regardless of all other considerations people today have confirmed that they will fight any aggressor who threatens their homes, families and way of life.

Fields of Battle
furlong, Thursday, Feb 9 2006, 1:41pm
Faced with the undeniable and now unavoidable truth of the criminality of the Bush, Blair and Howard governments, what do you suppose are the consequences for these men? People are fined for parking and littering offences but murder and plunder on an international level incurs no penalty it would seem. [The ICC is a puppet court, an institution with zero credibility.] Is the lack of legal and public response surprising? Advice from leading consultants and ‘people managers’ was/is unanimous; once a decision is acted upon by a government and a nation is committed to a particular course, the people are swept along regardless of compromising evidence released during or after the event. Permanent War
nano, Monday, Feb 6 2006, 4:39am
US Secretary of Defence, Donald Rumsfeld, recently announced the ‘war on terror’ would be re-named “the long war”; this announcement has not surprised analysts who are aware that neo-con ideologues and strategists follow the Straussian (and perverted Trotskyist) doctrine of permanent war. Some interpret this as nostalgia for the ‘good old days’ of the Cold War in which a clearly defined enemy (communist bogeymen) kept the nation on permanent alert and amenable to the powers of the time. BYU Professor accuses US Government of 9/11 Fraud
Elaine Jarvik, Friday, Jan 27 2006, 11:43am
"We believe that senior government officials have covered up crucial facts about what really happened on 9/11," the group says in a statement released Friday announcing its formation. "We believe these events may have been orchestrated by the administration in order to manipulate the American people into supporting policies at home and abroad." (story and 1 comment and 1 image)

Bread vs Gold
cleaves, Thursday, Jan 19 2006, 3:28am
It is likely that a sharp economic downturn (recession) will be experienced at some stage during the period 2006-07. This indicator portends the global economic collapse of 2010-12. The hardest hit will be the banks and other financial institutions. In today’s world it would be foolhardy to take for granted the security and safety of any financial institution.

Japan v. the Whales

Environmentalists protesting against Japanese whaling in the Antarctic is leading to an escalation of aggression from the Japanese whaling fleet. However, Japan can hardly ignore international opinion.

Social Disorder
peptide, Thursday, Jan 12 2006, 5:39am
The subversion of law and ‘order’ has been effectively and completely realised, not by revolutionary, rebel, insurgent groups and associated ideologies, but by the custodians of social order themselves. The process was essentially (d)evolutionary not revolutionary. An elementary student would have little difficulty understanding the character of the ‘New World Disorder’ and the forces that created this new social nightmare. The USA stands in plain sight as the most criminal, murderous, terrorist state in the world today. (story and 2 comments and 1 image)

Obvious Options
dingo, Monday, Jan 2 2006, 11:43am
The forces that divide humanity issue from religion, tribalism, racism and self-interest. The fact that right wing groups emphasise the ‘virtues’ of these principles clearly identifies their support base and driving principles. It would seem obvious that an assault on the principles that create undesirable circumstances is preferable to dealing with the (disastrous) consequences after the event.

Anarchism: What it really stands for
Emma Goldman, Sunday, Jan 1 2006, 3:27am
Anarchism is the great liberator of man from the phantoms that have held him captive; it is the arbiter and pacifier of the two forces for individual and social harmony. To accomplish that unity, Anarchism has declared war on the pernicious influences which have so far prevented the harmonious blending of individual and social instincts, the individual and society. The Immorality of the State
Mikhail Bakunin, Sunday, Jan 1 2006, 3:20am
"Every State, whether it is of a federative or a non-federative character, must seek, under the penalty of utter ruin, to become the most powerful of States. It has to devour others in order not to be devoured in turn, to conquer in order not to be conquered, to enslave in order not to be enslaved - for two similar and at the same time alien powers, cannot co-exist without destroying each other."

Minorities versus Majorities
Emma Goldman, Sunday, Jan 1 2006, 3:15am
In the American struggle for liberty, the majority was no less of a stumbling block. Until this very day the ideas of Jefferson, of Patrick Henry, of Thomas Paine, are denied and sold by their posterity. The mass wants none of them. The greatness and courage worshipped in Lincoln have been forgotten in the men who created the background for the panorama of that time. The true patron saints of the black men were represented in that handful of fighters in Boston, Lloyd Garrison, Wendell Phillips, Thoreau, Margaret Fuller, and Theodore Parker, whose great courage and sturdiness culminated in that somber giant John Brown. Their untiring zeal, their eloquence and perseverance undermined the stronghold of the Southern lords. Lincoln and his minions followed only when abolition had become a practical issue, recognized as such by all.

Patriotism: A Menace to Liberty
Emma Goldman, Sunday, Jan 1 2006, 3:10am
The contention that a standing army and navy is the best security of peace is about as logical as the claim that the most peaceful citizen is he who goes about heavily armed. The experience of every-day life fully proves that the armed individual is invariably anxious to try his strength. The same is historically true of governments. Really peaceful countries do not waste life and energy in war preparations, With the result that peace is maintained.

Power Corrupts The Best
Mikhail Bakunin, Sunday, Jan 1 2006, 3:05am
Nothing is more dangerous for man's private morality than the habit of command. The best man, the most intelligent, disinterested, generous, pure, will infallibly and always be spoiled at this trade. Two sentiments inherent in power never fail to produce this demoralisation; they are: contempt for the masses and the overestimation of one's own merits.

Arrest Information
elastic band, Thursday, Dec 29 2005, 12:53pm
Right-wing nations are now utilising their new ‘anti-terrorist’ laws. Activists are being targeted and arrested in the US and Australia – who is next? The following information may prove useful in the event of arrest. A ‘friend of mine’ was recently detained for questioning by state police; his experiences were similar to those of others in the milieux. Familiarisation with the procedures and methodologies of our ‘regulatory authorities’ is invaluable in the event of arrest or detention.

Complicity
finch, Tuesday, Dec 20 2005, 2:11am
Bush confesses his criminality and hopes that his ‘act’ of contrition will save him from the dock. He has finally acknowledged that the invasion (and occupation) of Iraq was/is based on incorrect information (lies). Supporters and citizens who desperately hope that Bush’s admission demonstrates his contrition had their hopes dashed against the hard reality of further sordid deeds – the illegal 'bugging' and monitoring of US citizen’s private communications by the NSA. [Would anyone seriously expect this criminal administration to change character?] Bush’s admission is a political gesture, a strategic manoeuvre in response to increasing international disapproval of the dishonesty of his regime.

The Politics of Inversion
Kingfisher, Friday, Dec 9 2005, 1:45pm
A fundamental feature of extremist regimes is the absolute requirement for an adversary. If a real or perceived enemy loses its opponent status then a bogeyman (under the bed) mentality is cultivated until the negative effects of that strategy (fear, loathing etc.) can be successfully superimposed onto a suitable ‘candidate’. The ‘successful’ candidate would then immediately attract the fear, loathing and violence of the extremist society (or group) in question. (story and 2 images)
