Binary Logic and Religious Art

We can be sure that wherever religion rears its moronic, murderous, hypocritical head – the simplicity of binary logic accompanies. The National Art School in Darlinghurst Sydney is presently exhibiting entries in the Blake Religious Art competition. We had hoped that entires would create enlightened debate and fracture ignorant views/realities, however, the Art competition quickly descended into George Bush binary logic of good and evil, with us or with the terrorists (bullshit).

Two entries, one depicting a Bin Laden image becoming an image of Jesus Christ and a sculpture/statuette of the ’virgin’ (in your dreams) Mary in a burqa are the focus of controversy for controversy’s sake. [When will they ever grow up?] Artist, Priscilla Brack, defended her Christ-Bin Laden work as a juxtaposition of “good and evil,” for Christ’s sake! Today even artists are becoming morons; the prize should be a one way ticket to the USA and good fuckin’ riddance to Bushite bullshit art.

Historical myth and fantasy accepted but surely in 2007 we can rise above childish fictions of men flying/walking on water, virgin births, the dead jumping from their graves and rocking around town -- for fuck’s sake! The tragedy is that full-grown adults believe this shit and continue to kill each other over their respective dreamworld beliefs.

Religion is a pathological condition; the cretinous debate generated by images obviously designed to offend morons and gain notoriety is nothing more than a cheap ad-man's trick – a non-Art event!

The conservative Prime Minister John Howard labelled the works “gratuitously offensive to the religious beliefs of many Australians.” Well poo poo, ca ca!

Banksy remains the foremost totemic ARTIST of our time; totemic Art for totem’s sake. Now that his ‘works’ are selling for millions he has begun producing counterfeits of his own works – brilliant! True ART (subverts itself) constantly evading appropriation by the bourgeois mercantile classes who degrade ART by commodifying it!

However, the Blake is not a total wash out, an aboriginal work from North-West Oz – petroglyph country – generates real affective power!
