Intelligence USA

It’s now official, but do these admissions carry even a vestige of credibility? The US administration recently announced that it was grossly in error regarding internal intelligence assessments of the existence of WMDs in Iraq. Someone forgot to inform neo-con PR that the bull has already wrecked the China shop.

The Wolfowitz plan for the invasion of Iraq has been a matter of public record for a considerable period; the existence of WMDs and the threat of impending attack was fabricated in order to ‘legitimise’ an illegal invasion and minimise any opposition to the plan. In order to remove the final legal barrier for a pre-planned illegal attack on Iraq the US embarked on a campaign to undermine the (accurate) conclusions of UN weapons inspectors. The UN was unable to contend with the US at the time; however, events have since confirmed the assessments of weapons inspectors and the success of the UN mission in eradicating WMDs from pre-invasion Iraq.

The US was in possession of reports from UN inspectors regarding the non-existence of WMDs; however, the US chose to ignore the advice of leading experts favouring instead its own agenda of conquest and plunder.

The historical record bears witness to a primary objective of the invasion of Iraq. For those who remain ignorant of the real US agenda, the objective given the highest priority (under orders) was to secure the Oil Ministry in Baghdad, leaving sites of cultural and historical significance to be robbed by bandits. Critical service infrastructures (water, electricity etc) were disregarded, as was the well being of the civilian population. The world was left in no doubt regarding the real intentions and primary objectives of the present US regime in Iraq. For this regime to cry apologetics now is incredible.

In a world now hostile to the US government, this extremely late ‘admission’ is nothing more than a feeble attempt at distraction and appeasement. The present US administration is at least consistent in its efforts to shift public attention away from the real issues of conquest, plunder and the singular pursuit of world domination

This latest political attempt at subterfuge is reminiscent of another neo-con absurdity; who can forget the now infamous statement (made by Wolfowitz) that the people of Iraq would welcome invaders with “bouquets of flowers”. Few (if any) people outside the US lend any credence whatsoever to any statements that issue from the Whitehouse. Neo-con PR would have been more successful announcing that Cheney had found God and decided to tell the truth for once in his life or that Wolfowitz is really a humanitarian.

In a concerted attempt to gain/feign credibility Bush also announced that US ‘intelligence’ agencies would undergo minor reforms. [As a result of their preoccupation with internal agendas, US agencies have lost sight of their primary function.] They are now in dire need of intelligence (literal meaning included) regarding enemies of the present regime. If we can offer some assistance in this regard – look no further than the rest of the world; persistent uni-lateralism, hypocrisy, militarism, flagrant disregard of international law and convention wins few friends.
