The Burden of Guilt: Tony Blair converts to Catholicism

international / theology / commentary

Murderers carry an exceedingly heavy burden, how much greater the burden for mass murderers? Whether or not Blair’s conversion is the result of a pressing need to relieve the pain of his inner torment or is related to other factors – his wife is a devout RC – the guilt factor is difficult to dismiss.

Cherie Blair: the tormented face of religion
Cherie Blair: the tormented face of religion

The Roman Catholic Church learnt early the art of expiating ‘sins’ and 'redeeming' believers from personal tortures and guilt. The church experimented by inducing horrid guilt and fear in their followers then devising rituals to expiate/relieve guilt and a host of other psychologically induced complaints.

Ancient religious organisations acted as governments, moral institutions and psychiatric healers. Religion is nothing more than primitive government. Superstitious, fantastic and absurd narratives (Scripture) served to weaken the psychological faculties while brutal and violent means were used, with abandon, to instil terror and physically police the population. It is no coincidence that dark ages and the most ignorant periods in human history are periods characterised by religious or theocratic power.

Nevertheless, constant practise develops skills and the Catholics developed a wide range of rituals to suit almost every occasion including ‘demonic’ activity. Compare dry, anal, conservative Anglican services with the rich ritual and pomp (mumbo jumbo) of the Catholic masturbation and you may get a hint of the effectiveness of one Church over the over for relieving the torment of psychological complaints.

However, regardless of all the pomp and sensory stimulation – Catholic rituals target the entire sensory range to facilitate changes in consciousness – an inviolate law remains and that is no man can absolve another of the consequences of his deeds; it is simply impossible, as many disillusioned religionists would testify.

Regardless of how desperate, frightened and tormented, Religion just doesn’t cut it as healer any more. In fact it is a major part of the problem, isn’t that right, Tony, you despicable murderer?

Best of British luck with the left-footers, Tony, and don’t forget to be sincere when you swear on the Bible at your war crimes trial!
